but it's a cool light. It either stays on red light or ...
I bought this because I had a rear turn signal out...was trying to think of some way I could be creative about having some kind of flashing light for when I turned left for drivers behind me. Before I was even able to use it, my fiance ended up fixing my rear turn signal, so I no longer need to use it for that, but it's a cool light. It either stays on red light or a flashing red light. It has a magnetic bottom that would stay on your vehicle no matter where you put it, as long as it's metal. I feel this light will come in handy some day, in some way!

Perfect for safety kits
In my search for an alternative to flares, I came across the 9.1.1R lights and purchased 2 based on the positive reviews. I just received them and I'm very pleased. They use 3 AAA batteries (not included) and the batteries can be installed and removed easily. The red light is bright (I have not tested it outdoors) and it gives you the option of flashing or glowing solid. The switch is a small, black rubber button on the top which is easy to use and feels good. The magnet is strong and the 4 rubber feet should protect a cars' paint from potential scratches. I ordered from Amazon.com who shipped quickly to my home in Canada. My only complaint is the manufacturers packaging which was difficult to open.

Great Saftey Light, Amazon Description Now Correct :)
UPDATE (02/05/2014): I was notified buy a user that Amazon has now updated the product info and it now matches what you will receive. Original review: I just received my order of two FlareAlert 9.1.1R Red LED Safety Lights, or as it reads on the packaging 9-1-1 LED Emergency Beacon. They are very well built, very bright and I like that the magnet is strong and along with the four rubber feet they don't move around or scratch. I bought them because of the low price, 10 LED's and three listed modes, Flash, Steady & Chase. Well you won't be getting chase nor will you be getting 10 LED's but just one big one. The description on the item page differs greatly from what you will receive. Now the price is low enough and they still do what I need them to do that I am keeping them though I would have liked the chase mode. So I am writing this so others will know what to expect when ordering. These are the features you will get as stated on the packaging: - 0.5 Watt LED w/ 50,000 Hour Life - Powerful Magnetic Base - Rugged Crush & Water Resistant Design - Steady Mode/Flash Mode Run Times: 20/60 Hours - Super Bright 360° Visibility - Compact, Durable, safe - Powered By 3 AA Batteries VS. Amazon Description - 10 red LEEDS - 3 operating modes: steady, flash and chase - Battery life: steady mode - 8 hours; flash mode - 24 hours; chase mode - 30 hours - Durable polycarbonate housing - Magnetic base - 3 AAA Batteries required As you can see the variations are drastic from what you think you will get to what you will be getting. I give it 4 stars, would have been 5 if all modes were present. And now you know.

Great safety light
Flashing lights very bright. I needed to transport a boat on a trailer with inoperable lights at night. The magnets were strong enough to hold on trailer. Worked perfectly!

Stopped working
Worked OK when I put it in my car’s emergency gear kit. A year later, when I took it out to put in new batteries, it no longer would turn on.

Way too dim
Works well, but in no way can be considered a replacement for a real road flare. The flare alert lights are incredibly dim. I can't imagine that they would make much difference if you set them out on the road.

Great alternative for electrical failures in your vehicle, or as a roadside alert that you're on the road changing a tire.
I got two of these for a car kit I rigged out for my brother in law for Christmas. His new job has him traveling a lot, and he's not exactly Bear Grylls, so the goal for the kit was to get him something that would get him over the hump while he waiting out roadside assistance in the case of a vehicular emergency. To me, these are essential devices in case his battery goes dead and he has no hazard lights. They are very bright, though in the day and age of 1000+ lumen flashlights, they seem a little dim. But the flash, along with the color, should be easily visible a long ways off, even moreso at night or on overcast days. Great little tool that I hope he rarely needs.

Update: I fixed a problem and I would recommend.
////UPDATE\\\\\\ 5/31/16 Still works fine. I haven't had too many occasions to use but when I do it is a force multiplier. I'll probably be ordering more in the near future. I am still always aware of the switch and I am being gentle with it now. Updating to a 4 star. I will continue to update. I would recommend it now with the caveat that it is not industrial/military grade but it will get the job done. 4-29-16 PM Original review below. After I took it apart the board, solder points, and wires looked good. Once apart I tested it and it worked. The switch felt much better then when it was in the plastic. I put it back together being careful of the switch and it works. I believe that I must have depressed the switch too hard or maybe not, and it caught inside the rubber shroud. I barely have to touch the switch to get it to work. Time will tell and I will update if it works in the long run. I plan on using it a lot this summer for company use and it will probably run 60 hours every 2-3 weeks. Updating the review to a 3 star right now as having to take it apart to troubleshoot will never get a 5 and if it lasts the summer I'll give it a 4. Original 4-29-16 AM I work security and had planned to use this as a decoy beacon light. My plan was to put a few on cars in a lot when I do over-watch. It worked great for the first day and was in service for 8 hours in flash mode. The next time I tried to use it, it wouldn't turn on. Checked the batteries and they popped out and would barely stay in. When they are in it may blink three times and then quit or it won't turn on at all. You can see the wires inside and neither are broken, kinked, or burnt. It just seems like a very cheaply made in China product. The magnet holds well enough but is not the strongest. Buyer beware. I will try to fix it myself as the shipping back would not be worth it. Maybe I got a dud but I would take a chance on another product.

We ordered and tested several types of LED Flares at night so that we could order 40 sets of for our vehicle fleet. We DID NOT but these ones as they were inferior to some of the others.
