Optimum substrate for hermit crabitats
This is an excellent, high quality substrate for hermit crabs-- worlds better than the calcium carbonate sand or plain Eco Earth that the pet stores sell and use for their crabs. It comes well packaged (no leakage of sand) and is very easy to reconstitute (just add distilled or dechlorinated water). My 5 crabs are extremely happy and comfortable in this substrate, and it provides a very attractive and hygienic crabitat. It really does encourage burrowing behavior, which is extremely important for hermit crabs. The one negative is the amount of substrate that you get for the cost. If you need several inches of substrate (3 x the depth of your largest crab, usually 5-6" or so) in a larger terrarium (I use a 20 gallon long tank), then you will need a lot of bags of this. I bought 4 bags of this, and I would probably need more like 10-12 to fully fill my tank to the right depth. I found that you can actually make almost identical sand for much less cost just by doing it yourself. Get silica sand from your local pet shop (I found 20# bags of CaribSea sand for $7) or even just play sand, mix in Eco Earth (also available at any pet shop) in a 4-5 parts sand to 1 part EE ratio, mix in a few ounces of crushed oyster shell or crushed coral (available on Amazon or the pet store), and add salt water (mixed from Instant Ocean, also from the pet store) until it reaches "sand castle making consistency" (I found that it took about 700 cc of seawater per 20# of sand, although use your own judgement.) Bingo! A lot more of the same substrate (short of the "probiotic", whatever that is) for a lot less. Takes a bit more work, but not much, and if you have kids, it's a fun thing for them to mix up. Otherwise, great product, and I would recommend it for all hermit crab enthusiasts. Your hermit crabs will survive much longer and happier with this substrate.

Perfectly blended, premoistened substrate for crabbies.
This is by far the best premixed crab sand, but keep in mind that by volume 6 lbs of wet sand is not very much. I did not have this in mind and like a dummy, I was surprised, and upset that I spend this amount of money on not enough sand. Just be sure you’re ordering enough. It’s great sand. No problem with the sand at all. The crab likes it. It’s good quality and the right ratio of mix, but 12 lbs was barely enough to fill one half a 10 gallon tank, for a 1.5” crab. TLDR use your thinking skills before ordering, which I failed to do.

Was a great use for a project
I needed sand for a child’s crafting class I teach. THIS was double the amount for 1/2 the price!! It was easy to use. Had no smell or off putting texture. It was a lot of sand and I have plenty leftover from my class for our next project.

It’s sand and it does sand things
I use the sand a lot it’s pretty nice definitely suggest getting coconut fiber with it. Nice size I usually buy two at a time. It’s sand and it does sand stuff it’s really easy for my hermit crabs to dig. in it doesn’t smell for a long time.

Nice and Clean to Start
I really love that this sand is already clean, I dumped some in a big bowl to give it a quick wash with purified water to be rid of any dust or contaminants but nothing came off, it was already clean. It's also a really nice fine grain sand that's not itchy or damaging to touch with sensitive skin like mine and it was easy to wipe off my hand with a paper towel when I needed to pick up other things while getting ready. This sand is the base (mixed with some vermiculite) for several little aquariums I'm experimenting with right now, using it to grow Tiny Leaf and Dwarf Hair Grass for some Rotifers and Triops to have a natural food source, oxygen source and hiding places to feel safe. So far it's growing the underwater plants really well and they are growing quickly (about a half inch per day for the Dwarf Hair Grass). I already ordered more for more experiments and I'm very happy with it all around.

Great for bearded dragons
Perfect for my bearded dragon. She loves playing around in this stuff and it’s easy to clean. Good value for the money.

Used for butterfly puddlers.
I ordered this hermit crab sand not for hermit crabs, but for filling the bottoms of butterfly puddlers I keep in my garden to help the butterflies get the moisture and minerals they need. Since the sand has salt in it already, I felt this would be a good alternative to plain sand. I put the sand in a shallow dish with some shells, stones or marbles for the butterflies to sit on and then fill them with water. Unfortunately, I don't have any pics of the butterflies using the puddlers.
