Excellent fine tip applicator
The best part of this liquid frisket marker is the fine tip applicator, which is fairly hard to find in the marketplace. The marker ran out of masking fluid after three or four paintings, but I did use an awful lot of the product in each painting. Also I found it hard to remove with just my fingers, so I had to use one of those rubber cement pickups. All in all, I was happy enough with the product that I purchased another yesterday and am giving it five stars.

BuyerBeware
I ordered two of these each a different size. They must have come from two different locations because they arrived on different days. The first one I opened looked suspicious right off the bat. The colors of the liquid were all separated within the pen. I tried shaking it to mix it...Not Mixing At All! I try using it for some unknown reason. This effort was futile as well. I tried squeezing it. The liquid inside the tube was hard as a rock. I tried to open the pen, but the hard liquid inside was unyielding. Pliers didn't help. I get back on my Amazon Account to return the item. Much to my surprise I was informed that this item may NOT BE RETURNED nor will they give refunds. WTF?? So I contact the company, it's located in Switzerland. SMH. I found a good translator and sent in a complaint. I seriously doubt I'll hear back from them. I held out hope knowing that I had another one coming. When it was delivered I opened it immediately. Much to my dismay this pen was in the same condition. Granted the separation was vertical rather than horizontal, but separation and hardness ruled the day. TWO STRIKES, this item is OUT!! Save your money and make a trip to your Hobby Store.

Works well on Fabriano Artistico 100% cotton watercolor paper with no residue left behind!
I bought this masking fluid marker for use in my illustration work on the recommendation of another artist. While I wasn't sure what to expect after reading the reviews on here, I decided to give it a go for myself and I'm so glad that I did. I have come to appreciate how easy it is to see this masking fluid on my paper when I am ready to remove it. The blue color does not stain the paper. I also find it easy to apply after a few pumps to get the fluid flowing and I have not experienced any application or flow issues with this marker (don't shake it or you may get bubbles in the fluid though). The pen-style applicator creates even, consistent lines without breaks, so it may not be the right choice when organic looking marks are needed. You can vary line width a little by angling the tip, but if a wider variety of lines is needed, a more traditional masking fluid application method would be better suited. This masking fluid works very well and it handles heat from a hairdryer without bonding to the paper fibers. I've had no problem removing it from Fabriano Artistico 100% cotton cold press or hot press watercolor paper, even if it does take a few minutes to remove thoroughly. The masking fluid lifts completely using an inexpensive rubber pickup tool that I purchased here on Amazon. The lines with this marker are fairly smooth, leaving edges that are much less rough than with other application methods! When a more smooth, consistent line is needed this is perfect! It's worth pointing out that whether (any) masking fluid lifts cleanly is determined more by the nature of the paper being used than the masking fluid. Some papers, especially those made with cellulous, may not hold up well. Even some 100% cotton papers can be prone to paper fibers lifting easily, like Stonehenge Aqua watercolor paper, making them unsuitable for use with this or other masking fluids. While I enjoy using the Stonehenge watercolor paper, I do not use it when I want to use masking techniques, as the paper is easily damaged by them. Also, some papers will handle certain brands of masking fluid well, but not others. That is something to keep in mind when buying this or any other masking fluid. Depending on the combination of paper and masking fluid used, your mileage may vary considerably. I have attached a photo of a recently completed illustration, and a video showing the masking fluid removal, for reference. I created the swirly lines of vanilla on the top and sides of the blueberry bars with this masking fluid marker and I love how they came out. As you can see from the video, the masking fluid can be cleanly removed using a rubber pickup tool, as long as a suitable watercolor paper is used. I will continue to use this masking fluid marker, as it works very well when I want even, consistent lines. In fact, I may switch brands entirely once my normal masking fluid is gone. I think I prefer the consistency of this one and I find the blue color a help, not a hindrance. ** If you found this review helpful, please mark it helpful to let me know and help other buyers. Thanks! **

Easy to use.
This masking fluid pen makes it simple to protect areas that you want to keep paint free. No messing around with a paint brush and then trying to clean the fluid out of it.

No wonder it's non-returnable, it's dried up on delivery!
If I could give this product and the company that won't take it back a negative star rating, I would. The masking fluid inside the marker was completely dried up when I removed it from the sealed package. You can't shake it because it won't move and it certainly won't pump or work if it is dried up. You can see the wide open space next to the pump part of the marker in the images, as well as the unmixed substance. I shook it for about 3 minutes and it wouldn't budge. If I'd noticed it was non returnable I'd never have bought it and I didn't notice because most items like this ARE RETURNABLE. There's an IPC code printed on the pen that ends in 8/04...and if that's a manufacture date it should never have been sold. Total Scam. Shame on all parties selling this sorry excuse of a product.

Works as advertised. No problem lifting off the paper.
I just received this today and tested it out on the back of a piece of printer paper. As you can see it came out really well. Only one minor area where the ink bled through but I did put it on very lightly to see how that would work. And then you can see where the lines crossed each other in the swirl there's a tiny bit of bleed through. I wonder if that is because I might have lifted what was already laid down when I crossed back over top of it. As you can also see, I did not have the trouble that some described of it not coming off the paper. Maybe because it was on for a short period of time? All told, I'm very happy.

Hit or Miss and hard to remove
Very hit or miss. Sometimes it works okay, but it's never great. Very hard to get off the paper, and I can't really recommend it for professional work.

Very simple and straight forward to use. The experience was similar to using a correction fluid pen in some ways. Shake pen. Pump nib to start flow. Write/draw where you want the masking to be. Allow to dry (a minute or two, like correction fluid). Go over with other media (watercolours, markers, etc). Allow media to dry. Rub off mask with finger. I used an eraser to rub off the mask after using alcohol markers and it came off very easily with no paper damage (copier paper) at all, and left a sharp clean edged mask. (If I rush and don't let the media or masking fluid dry properly it could have very slight edge bleed) The pen is 2mm width, so like a correction pen in many ways, but with liquid masking fluid. The masking fluid 'ink' is light blue, so it is very easy to see where you have applied it on the paper, for later removal. Very versatile, and allows for easy rendering over highlighted areas, blocking out objects for background rendering, etc. Wish they had this years ago when I had to cut complex airbrush masks! Makes masking unbelievably easy!

These pens are excellent on Arches watercolour paper. Removal is easy and clean and damage free. I will continue to use them for fine detailing on my watercolour paintings. I only use 100% cotton papers of good quality.

I love this masking pen . I don’t have ruined brushes as much and can mask writing and words much easier along with details in pictures . It goes on with a total different feel than other fluid and is harder to get of , but I find using an eraser works perfect and I also find it dose wreck your paper like bottled fluid dose . It stays thin and has more of a paper feel to it rather than the rubber feel of most . Would totally buy again. It arrived early and was in perfect condition and it’s small pen container is great to throw in a travel kit and can be refilled so never throw these pens out for they are sold empty aswell
