Exactly what I was looking for!
If you are looking for a compact sound system with great sound this may be just what you need! I was looking for a compact sound system for primarily listening to music from my computer and phone. I really do not watch a lot of TV or movies so a 5.1 or higher home theater system was not of interest to me. I was drawn to 2.1 Soundbar systems for their compact size but I do not like the way any of them sound for music playback, at least within my price range. I owned a Soundbar previously and couldn't have been more disappointed with the audio quality for music playback. While it was an improvement to my TVs speakers, any music played through the unit sounded over processed and unnatural, even on the music setting. This time around, after doing more research, I learned that a Soundbar was not the right product for my needs. After looking at and listening to many sound systems I decided it was best to go with speakers I could pair with my old audio receiver. I took a chance at buying this product online because none of the stores near me had this system to demo. After considering the space I have, the experience I wanted, audio components I already had and the great reviews on this system, I decided to take a chance. I am no audiophile, but I do enjoy listening to music. Hearing all of the sounds and feeling the music makes a much more enjoyable listening experience for me. And while sound is very subjective, I couldn't be more pleased with this purchase. It's compact, fits the space I have, looks and sounds incredible! I couldn't be more pleased with this purchase and would highly recommend anyone with the same needs and expectations as me in a sound system to give this a try. I do not see how you can be disappointed.

Great sound and a small footprint
I'm using these as computer speakers. I'm pairing them will a small 20w Class T amplifier and they get quite loud. I'm really enjoying the sound of these speakers - vocals are crystal clear and they make my music sound better to my ears than other speakers I've used in the past (and there have been MANY). The satellites are quite heavy for their size and seem quality as well. I liked them so much I bought another set for the bedroom. I'm looking forward to trying other Bose speakers now.

I love this system
I love this system. Nice warm sound and plenty of bass. Some say the (unpowered subwoofer) doesn't provide enough bass but I'll tell you that I guess they are using a Home Theater (5.1 or 7.1) unit as their receiver. Those units aren't designed for good music reproduction in a stereo setting and won't ever sound that great with any speakers set-up. I have a 7.1 home theater for watching movies so I can attest it never sounds great playing a CD through it. I also completely recommend pointing the open port in front against a wall. Doing that you will hear much richer bass than pointing it out into open space. But in all fairness this is in a carpeted room. The subwoofer would probably sound awesome on a hardwood floor.

4 stars
Incredible sound from the small high/midrange speakers. Bass from the sub is subtle and very clear, but definitely could be stronger or louder, but i was using a very limited amp. Maybe it would be louder/stronger with a better amp. 4 out of 5.

Bose, there is no other.
My last Bose Acoustic system was purchased in 1994. It gave me incredebile sound the entire time I had it. I sold it to a friend this past February when I moved. Well, I purchase a new receiver and knew I had to have basickly the same system. I welcomed my new Bose Acoustic 5 system two months ago. It’s just as good as my old system, if not better. I’m truly a Bose guy, wouldn’t have anything else.

Disappointing
I was so excited to get this. I immediately jumped on it when it was delivered. The first thing I noticed was how much larger the subwoofer is than the my old Acoustimass 10 woofer. The second disappointment is when I saw that the speaker hookups are a special multi-pin jack. PROPRIETARY SPEAKER HOOKUPS? Seriously Bose? I continued thinking that these may be even better than I was expecting. The speaker wires were long enough to give me a good spread between left and right channels. (25') I slowly and deliberately set it up and when I turned it on? I wanted to cry. I was expecting bang for the buck. I got dribbles for a fortune. The bass is nowhere as deep and prominent as expected. The cube speakers really really sound like a just a step above a transistor radio. I have already destroyed the packaging (being convinced that this is super quality). My old acoustimass 10 was so much better! Needless to say, I reinstalled my Klipsch bookshelves (without a subwoofer), and I am now listening to quality sound once again. I'll be putting the bose on craigslist at a severe loss.

I will put these in my bathroom were the rest of the crap goes. On a shelf not over priced plastic
Yes the speakers sound ok. But Bose has lost a customer for ever they really put it to the customer on mounting these speakers. They don't even show the back of the speakers to show they changed the connections. Well there not going to make another dime off me or anyone I know. I will put these in my bathroom were the rest of the crap goes.On a shelf not over priced plastic. If I would have known this I would not have bought these speakers. I will keep them because I do not want to return them to Amazon. Should have stayed with Klipsch, Polk or JBL or any of the 1000 other speaker makers out there.

From Old School large 4 way system to New School Bose!
I finally had to retire my big 4 way, 12" woofer custom made speakers. Wasn't too sure which way to turn due to downsizing, but chose this Bose system. Very surprised and happy with sound quality and low end. Paired with my Pro logic system, 2 rear, center and the Bose for fronts, it was great. My music ranges from classic rock, country to classical pipe organ! Really fills the living area with quality like being there sound.

I have lots of classic music CDs and really enjoy them. I need a hi-fi setup on my desk. Can't be too big and bulky. I also upgraded my home theater because the previous amplifier was still pre-HDMI era, and BD player with color component output is becoming more and more rare. So I have a good amplifier and a good DVD player, and I need a compact yet good sounding speaker system. What else: Bose. The setup was straightforward. The amplifier needs to turn off the 2+1 mode and go to straightforward hi-fi mode, and let the speaker do the cross over. That is the part that even the Bose store guys couldn't explain to me and I was puzzled for quite some time how I can make use of the subwoofer without using the subwoofer output on the amplifier. The speakers seem to need a bit of break in. After two weeks of casual use, it sounds very sweet. Perfect for my needs, from piano, violin, orchestral work, to vocal and electronic. Not cheap and hard to find a sales deal, but still highly recommended, if you happen to have a set of amplifier and such lying around. Otherwise, active speakers may be a better fit.
