This is a great knife.
This knife is a close replica of a knife that played a prominent role in the war In Viet Nam. If you're interested in that role and history just search for "MACV-SOG knife" on the web. I had purchased an inexpensive knockoff of this knife which got me interested in learning more about this historic knife. The more I learned the more I knew I had to have this knife. I know the actual knives varied somewhat over the years, but this SOG S1T-L Bowie 2.0 knife was designed and crafted to accurately represent the appearance and salient features of the original MACV-SOG knife and its successors. Of course over the decades better materials, a titanium coating and advanced manufacturing have contributed to a knife much improved from the 1960's while retaining the uniqueness and qualities of the original. This knife is very well made. The unique blade is perfectly ground, shaped, polished and sharpened. It is beautifully coated in black titanium nitride (TiNi) as are the cross guard and the butt cap. The handle is made of leather washers slotted and stacked along the blade tang. They are shaped to provide a smooth finish and flat finger grooves along the bottom. The handle is oval shaped and is said to be epoxy coated. There is a hole in the butt cap for a lanyard. The sheath is well made of high quality leather dyed black and follows the pattern of the original SOG knife sheath with a small pouch on the front that includes a sharpening stone. The retention strap wraps around the top of the cross guard and snaps to the front. I have only two minor complaints The handle is quite slippery. The finger grooves are helpful, but not quite enough. Also, there is a rivet through the lower portion of the belt loop that attaches the retention strap. As the blade is slid into the sheath the cross guard can slide along the rivet cap which can put a scratch in the cross guard. This can be avoided if the belt loop is pulled back while inserting the blade in the sheath, however, this isn't practical if the sheath is on the belt. I like the knife enough overall to not mark it down for these issues. Carrying and using any knife will cause wear, so either keep it for show or use it and accept the wear. If you like knives, you'll like this one.

A good value on a historical knife
A bit shocked how good this knife is out of the box and at the price point. Came out of the box shaving sharp, very well executed stacked leather handle, pommel and guard. The blades grind lines are even and very nice while the tin coating replicates a presentation grade bluing. Sheath field grade, has metal snaps and is appropriate for this price point. Carries on the lineage of the Viet Nam MAC-V SOG knife pattern at an affordable price. I have and older pre 2006 Hattori SEKI Japan version of this knife and while the quality of that knife is outstanding, the current Taiwan produced version is well done and would make a great user since originals are becoming collectable.

Very good knife
I got this SOG knife to add to my bug out bag and so far so good. It's well made and comfortable in my hand. The grip itself is well designed and I'm confident that it won't slip. I have a few trips planned and this'll definitely be along for the adventure.

Plastic Snaps?
I didn't look at the reviews before ordering this knife--very stupid, I know--but I wouldn't have been interested in it if I had known that the sheath was so poorly done. The knife is okay as far as I know--since I haven't used it yet--but I'd not have spent over a hundred dollars on it the way it is.

Great knife, terrible sheath
The knife is everything I expected. It feels solid and has some heft to it. I specifically bought this model for the leather handle and it feels good. The handle is a little small for my hand but it isn't so small as to be a deal breaker. I wear a size large in gloves so my hands aren't huge. Hand size differs from person to person and isn't the reason I subtracted a star. The reason I subtracted a star is because of the sheath. I was extremely disappointed. I paid $133 when I purchased this knife and I expected at least a decent sheath. The stitching on the top was pulled completely out to about half an inch. That was right out of the box! End thoughts the knife is perfect. The sheath is complete crap and that seems to be universal from the reviews I have read.

Almost to beautiful to use
I was quite pleased with this SOG Bowie 2.0 knife which I purchased in Sep 2025 and bears the Taiwan stamp. My only concern is that it may just be too beautiful to use. There had been some concerns in other reviews abouts the packaging and sheath. It arrived well packaged in a cardboard box with plastic molded insert to hold it in place with the sheath packaged underneath. The black leather sheath and appears well made with leather of adequate thickness. It has a small, single grit sharpening stone in the pocket. The black finished snaps seem to be made of brass, not plastic as opined in one post. Of note, the hole punched in the tip of the leather sheath for a tie down does not penetrate all the way through the front layer of the multiple layers of leather of the sheath. This appears to be done on purpose, perhaps to allow the purchaser the choice as to if they want a visible hole in the front of the sheath for a tie down cord or not. Certainly one could use a leather punch to make the hole penetrate the last layer if a tie down cord was desired. The knife itself appears quite well made and finished with attention to detail. It shaves the hair on my arm right out of the box. The black finish is beautiful as is the cork washer handle finish. I fear the beautiful black finish would accentuate any scratches from hard utility use. Note that the included photos show a 550 cord lanyard that is my addition and not included with the knife. The knife is large enough to be used in heavier utility activities such as chopping and prying yet small enough to not be overly heavy or clumsy even in my smaller hands. It could be used for field dressing and skinning but I prefer a bit smaller blade for skinning. The knife and it's leather sheath would have been right at home on my LBE in the late 1980's Army Ranger Battalion and probably without jokingly being considered a "crew served knife." It was after all said to be modeled after the "SOG bowie" that was manufactured for the MACV-SOG Viet Nam era warriors. If I was still a young enough to be participating in such activities or was going to use this as an every day hard use utility knife I would I would likely opt for the Tech Bowie model which appears to be essentially the same knife but with modern Kraton handle, molded nylon sheath and stone washed finish that would hide scratches. My recommendation for this beautifully finished knife would be for presentation/gift/collector use but I have little doubt that could fill any combat or utility need if called to serve.
