Vacchiano L3000 Trumpet Straight Mute

This is a very good mute for any trumpet player. The mute does a very good job producing the metallic, muted tone in the middle and high registers of the trumpet. It falls short in the low register, but that is to be expected with trumpet mutes, as the low register is not usually utilized when playing muted. Like all metal mutes, this mute is easy to dent and scratch, so a mute case is a good investment if you want your mute looking nice for a long time. The cork is glued on really well and so far hasn't fallen off or begun to peel after normal use for 6 months. I have used Tom Crown straight mutes, Vacchiano, and Humes and Berg Stone Lined mutes, and in a head to head comparison, the Vacchiano blows the Humes and Berg out of the water, and competes well with the Tom Crown (I prefer the copper metal Tom Crown best).

I needed a mute for band and to practice whwn my family was home. This is perfect!

This straight mute is basically the standard to which all others are compared. Others like Tom Crown or Denis Wick might be acceptable for specific instances depending on the player, but every serious trumpet player needs one of these.

Easy to scratch but good overall

It is ideal for what it is. A bright, projecting, nasally "classic" straight mute sound. I probably wouldn't use it for solo work, but in a big band, can't nicety band, or orchestra, it would be a good choice. It is especially ideal for outdoor venues, when paired with a Humes & Berg, Stonelined Cup Mute (ol' red and white).

Good quality for the price. Bought it for my high schooler that plays trumpet he loves it. Great mute for intermediate players.

As recommended by my daughter's trumpet instructor, we chose this mute for her. We are pleased with it's quality.
