Very good language translator, few updates would make it the best on the market
The Langogo device seems to work well so far. I have used it manually, and in person, and over the phone while my iPhone had the speaker on. It will even translate the TV across the room in conversation mode, granted not as well on run on sentences. There are some things that could be better and the update feature should enable these updates and fixes. Why I bought this: I plan to travel aboard several times in 2019 and I wanted a device as a backup to my expensive cell phone. You pull your phone out enough, and it will get dropped or grabbed and then dropped, then what! Let’s talk about some interesting things that I did not realize about this device prior to buying: 1. There is a built in eSIM. As soon as I turned it on it connected in the US to a 4G tower with five bar signal. This was without a actual SIM card installed in the card slot. The built in eSIM connects. There is a menu option to buy time on this eSIM in all the counties that support eSIM. Note: The actual SIM card slot is a Mini-SIM not a Micro-SIM. So when you travel buy a Mini-SIM for data in the country you travel or just activate the eSIM if you want. I have not tested either but the build quality of the device makes me think, no issue. 2. After connecting to my local WiFi, I did an update and the new software installed without an issue. 3. The charging port is USB-C which is a newer port type 4. The new update version enables conversation mode, like Google Translate. The conversation icon has two microphones, click on that gives you dynamic automatic translation of your choice of two languages. This works pretty good, timing is not as finely tuned as Google Voice on a new iPhone though. You need to pause a moment between sentences for it to catch up and translate. You can also press the side button to help close the sentence rather than waiting for the device to recognize the end after a pause. 5. You can also flip the text of the person you are talking to, so they can read it while you still have the device facing you and you read your translation transcript facing you. Great feature. What would I like to see changed or updated: 1. Just being picky, the day of the week on the main screen is off one day. Simple fix via an update. The time of day is accurate from the 4G connection. Just the day of the week is wrong, Tuesday says Wednesday in the US..Etc. 2. The side button tone is very loud when pressed. In normal mode you start and stop each translation via the side button. This device has dual speakers and they are nice and loud. The problem is the side button tone volume is tied to the main volume. It is way too loud. You need the side button volume on its own menu setup rather than tied to the master volume. This is a big deal for me; I would like to even mute the button tone volume when needed without affecting the master volume. 3. The biggest want I have is, there is no capability for a headset or Bluetooth headset. Maybe they could channel the USB-C to a headset with an update. The best fix would be to have Bluetooth. That would make this device top of the pack. You pair this device in conversation mode with a set of dual microphone ear buds with proximity detect like Apple AirPod, and each person with one ear bud could talk in their native language and hear each one translated in the ear bud. That would put this device ahead of everything I have seen on the market. PS. I’m writing this review to help fellow translation device buyers and to help this company get some updates rolling to fix and enhance their already nice product. Cheers! Updated. 3/1/2019. I have used this device in Bogota and Cartagena Colombia and it works very well. It prefers 4G or WiFi for the fastest transition. I changed my rating to 5 star. The units is excellent. The volume turns out to be fine. The only issue I have is actidently changing the language. It’s a touch screen , so it’s easy to bump the swip down and change the language by mistake. Other than this and of course needing Bluetooth for earbuds, it’s perfect

This is much better than my previous translator
I previously had a Pockettalk translator that I didn't care for. There were issues with delays in receiving the audible translations, Software updates where I wasn't notified. Updates that can cause the translator to malfunction if the updates aren't downloaded. There were also times the phrase would never translate. The audible translations sounded robotic and so fast until they were hard to understand. The Langogo Genesis is a night and day difference. Once you choose your languages, you only need to use one button and it understands both languages. This is a better design that requires the user to use two separate buttons for the paired translated languages. The option to change the voice to male and female is good too! The audible phrases are easier to understand as they pause and emphasis to phrases and questions. The delay time is also small. Even for larger phrases. The only thing I would recommend is a shock proof case as I don't want to drop and damage the translator. I would give it five stars but there are times where the translator will hear a homophone word, but cannot determine the context in the phrase and the phrase is wrong. But this is an easy work around as it's easy to change the phrase. Overall I'm pleased with this translator 👍🏾

A flawed product...
I just received this translator and expected good things from it according to a lot of reviews. I am using it as a Japanese/English translator. Unfortunately, i have run into a host of issues which makes me not recommend it as of now. I have checked for any firmware updates and it says it is current. 1. The device says it is connected to my local Wi-Fi network, but my it does not appear on my list of connected devices on my router's Wi-Fi list 2. The battery was completely dead on arrival. I fully charged it and started using it. The battery seems to discharge at an alarming rate, dying after a couple of hours whether it is translating or not. 3. If I try to use the translator in offline of online mode, the device keeps saying it is not connected to a network and is unusable. 4. I could not get it to work in interpreter mode at all, it reports device is not connected 5. It requires repeated attempts to translate, requesting you to "speak again" 6. The microphone is not that sensitive. You literally need to point it to each person speaking or else it will not pick up the sound at all. 7. The Intelligent Recording option is not even displayed on my menu. I am awaiting for Langogo's response to my issues and will update this review if the issues get resolved. If not, this will be returned... UPDATE: So far, Langogo's support is unable to figure out what is wrong with my device. All of their suggestions are not resolving anything. UPDATE 2: i may have found part of the problem. The Langogo is supposed to come with a free two-year service with the built-in eSIM. But if you look at the eSIM card shown, it shows an expiration date of Dec 31,1969. I sent Langogo the issue and am still waiting for their feedback. FINAL UPDATE: Langogo confirmed that their translator will NOT work in Hawaii. There are no carriers that supports the integrated eSIM card in the translator so it will not operate. This makes the translator completely useless for me.

I wish I had this when I was in Puerto Rico for 6 months!
As part of my work, I often travel to some of the US protectorates, like Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, etc. Sometimes, like my time in Puerto Rico, after hurricane Maria, I can be there for months. I know a little Spanish. But, not enough for me to communicate effectively with the native people who don't know any English. I used the app on my phone as a translator a lot. But, it didn't have enough skills to get me through. And, I found that I was burning A LOT of my phone's battery just trying to have conversations with folks. My wife suggested that we need to learn more Spanish. Especially since we're getting our house built here in central Texas and most of the labor here will be Spanish speaking with very limited English. So, I had enough cause to go ahead and get a REAL translator. Now, with this Langogo Genesis translator, we can both learn just about any foreign language we want, we have an instant, always with us, interpreter. Did you know there were like twenty variations of Spanish? There are, and Genesis knows them all. In total, she knows over 100 languages. Ever want to know what the technicians are talking about while you're getting your mani-pedi? Take your Genesis with you. She knows Vietnamese. It's super easy to use. No real set up required. Genesis automatically connects with the best signal while outside and can be connected to the strongest WiFi anywhere else. The controls are simple. Just select the language to translate from and to, she does the rest. Genesis will translate, speak the second language and give you written text IN THE SECOND LANGUAGE. I tested the Chinese and Japanese. I got the text of both those languages clearly displayed on the screen. The display is clear and easy to read and the screen is also touch sensitive to allow accurate control without a bunch of buttons. The volume can be dialed up loud enough to be heard over loud ambient noise. The microphone is sensitive enough to pick up the softest voice. The silicone cover (accessory) protects the body of the Genesis very well. The wrist strap can be worn or secured into your handbag to prevent loss or theft. This is the type of device that any professional traveling overseas should have in their pocket. Very pleased. Five stars.

Returned the device
There was nothing wrong with the device. It works, it is compact, easy to use. Nice screen. But then I started to figure out the esim / sim card / wifi set up and also realized for all this money there is no camera on the device. Having looked at see another device Fluenttalk that has the camera and 2 year esim service. So bought that for the camera and the service.

Best Pocket Translator!
This device is the real deal. Went to China for three weeks. Thought I would be lost without Google Translate. This device clearly provided better translations, was very easy to use, especially the ability to detect the language being spoken. The WiFi hot spot using their e-sim card worked better than my hotel WiFi. Problem is you can only get up to 500 mg of data per day max. I wrote the company and they say they are working on fixing this. Very easy to carry in your pocket. Only draw back is no camera, so no translation of signs and menus, but that was not a big deal. Waiters or my hosts could just speak into the device and tell me what things said. Highly recommend.

Top device, Operation and translation very easy.
This was a gift for my mom and we’re fully satisfied after the first attempts. Very good and easy-to-use menu interface, loud volume and large texts (adjustable). The translation operation is pretty simple. You set two languages. If you hold down the side key, it translates. The system automatically recognizes the language and translates into the other language. After some time, the translator moves to the standby to save electricity. My 'normal' sim card was easily accepted. But you can also use eSIM. The eSIM works during our trip to Japan. Buy one of their data plans then it can be a hotspot router as well. Maybe not the cheapest but the result is well worth the price.

It does work
For about 7 months I've been using translators everyday I've gone through four different types two types of earbuds from two handhelds. This particular one I have now broke the screen on but it still works It is by far the best translator that I have found. The only bad side is they don't have a download for the language I'm using so I have to have internet It comes with supposedly free internet in certain countries however I happen to be on an island that it does not support the free data service. So it only works when I am within Wi-Fi range. But I will say without a doubt that this is the best translator I've used hands down nothing comes close. I am going to buy another one of these since I broke the screen.
