To be clear , this is a Mini USB to 3.5mm socket and it locates correctly.

Fix the listing, this is not a micro sub to 3.5mm cable…. It is micro. Amazon needs to clean up the listings on their site so they are labeled accurately.

GoPro Hero 4 Won't Recognize
Do not use this for a GoPro. The only sound that comes through is what is coming from the built-in GoPro mic. The GoPro does not even recognize that this is plugged in.

Does not seem to function
On the Gopro Hero4 this cable does not seem to function. The only sound I hear on recordings is from the Gopro's own internal microphone.

Looking back at the main page for this product the fine wording is very confusing. The heading is "Micro USB" and so I ordered it. When it arrived, it was not micro but rather "Mini", a big difference. Looking again at the page wording, both micro and mini are used. As well, looking at the blow up of the picture it is clearly a "Mini". I didn't even take it out of its plastic wrap, just sending it back to Amazon.
