Subtle moments amidst a hail of bullets
The power of the Flying Sparks series is that the characters experience the standard tropes that humanize super-heroes-- balancing a double life, the burden of their secrets-- without spending a lot of time arguing about it. Here, Meta-Man has to repeatedly choose between his wife and his work, and he makes his choices without hesitation. Even better, his wife doesn't harangue him about it. Thus, the author communicates the hero's dilemmas without wasting our time with the details, which makes the consequences all the more dramatic when they come. The connection to the future Meta-Girl is revealed subtly, if unsurprisingly. Everyone treats Richard Nixon as a good Presidential prospect, which was sensible in the time when the story takes place, but there is still a slight hint of the ruthlessness that would eventually bring the man down. Again, the author's subtlety makes the drama much more real than the more typical tale of the past that is stuffed with foreshadowing of what was to come. But on top of the subtle meanings is the old-fashioned slam-bang action of a flying brick super-hero, smashing his way through minions and triumphing against the final boss. Flying Sparks promises old-style comic book stories, and the Meta-Man special has plenty of that. Highly recommended!

A Great Piece and a Wonderful Throwback to Classic Comics
I really had fun time with the Flying Sparks graphic novel and decided to pick this up as well. Overall the Meta Man comic is a great addition to the Flying Sparks world JDA is crafting for his audience. While I don't think the art is as eye catching at the graphic novel, MM's art does the trick and delivers the action. In terms of story, everything was pretty straight forward. While some could say that would be a downside, I greatly appreciated how JDA wraps up his narrative in a nice little package. Though I consider some of the dialogue a bit wordy, this is a fantastic book that I think many people who are looking for something new to add to their collection would appreciate. Pick this up and the graphic novel.

Not bad
A touch of backstory for a side character, a dash of 60s comics-style fisticuffs, and a sprinkle of the classic tragedy of missing out on important personal moments for the sake of saving the day for someone else. My only complaint is that this short chapter flies by all too quick, and lacks polish. But y'know, not bad for a short sidestory. Not bad at all.

Solid but not great
Good drama, nice back story to meta girl (Chloe Anderson) that I nearly missed. Action is not as good as flying sparks. I recommend reading Flying Sparks over this one. Main bad guy in this is a bit of a goofball/throwback to old villains. The action scene resolves kinda cliche.

Nice preview to the Flying Sparks saga
This is a nice side way story fo the Flying Sparks saga. I'm sure what happened here will turn up in the series later. Some nugget will show up. Good, solid art, too.

Great Indy Super Hero Fare
Jon Del Arroz is a great comic book writer. He’s accomplished comic book producer too. It’s hard to find great indy comic book super heroes. If you like Super Heroes and dislike the money grabbing, cross over abuse from the industry leaders, buy Jon’s books.

This issue fills in some backstory, while expanding the world of Flying Sparks. If you enjoyed Flying Sparks, then this is a must. If you have yet to read Flying Sparks, then what are you waiting for?
