Best headsets I've found, but ...
Update (2023-07-02): I'm leaving my previous review intact below and adding a few thoughts. Most of it still applies to some extent. But ... this is the best headset I've ever had for my purpose, and I still can't find anything better. I don't talk on the phone any other way. Better? Noise cancellation and sound quality has been good on most of the 11 I've owned (yes, 11). I think some were counterfeits. Everyone can understand me on the other end, and many I've talked to had no clue I was going down the road (even with the windows down). The last one I bought was in December of 2022. I have two that still work fine. I don't know if the most recent failure is one of the more recent purchases, or a very old one. It literally wore out. The last two that failed lost their skins. I bought my first one in April of 2016. I only have one reason for not upgrading to the 5200. I despise micro-USB. I love the magnet connector for these. I can just reach up and pull it off the charge cable and put it on my ear while driving with minimal distraction. I carry two on the truck within reach so that when one battery gets low the other is right there. I can even snap the charger on the headset without having to see it. Try that with micro-USB. So, if you have time and patience to fiddle with micro-USB, by all means get the 5200. It's a better headset in every way, except for that. Poly seems to have migrated this headset over much better than they had at the beginning of 2023. There's a new app, and it works. I haven't tried to update the headset online with a PC since the end of 2022. If Poly would update this headset's internals, and leave the size, shape, and charger intact, I'd pay more for that one than another one of these. If I knew that they had, I'd be buying one from their website. There are numerous SKUs of this headset. There's no way for us mere mortals to know what the differences are, if any. I suspect that one or two of the FFP models were counterfeit, but I'm going to gamble again. The warranty will be out long before any problems become apparent. Then I'll buy another one ... or the Voyager Legend 2024. I am buying another one so I'll have two spares. Only 2 of the 11 are left. I started keeping one at home too. My wife is still using a 5200, but she has a couple of these ... somewhere. Previously (circa January 2023): I think I've purchased my last Legend, even though I haven't tested it yet. It's time to find something better, and that's going to be hard. My ear fits these too well. Be aware that this headset appears to no longer be fully supported online. Plantronics is now Poly. I just downloaded the latest version of Plantronics Hub from Poly's support site, which appears to be the remnants of Plantronics support site. When I run the Plantronics Hub and try to update the headset I get, "Plantronics Hub is unable to connect to the server." I suspect that the update server no longer exists, though I can't be sure. The most recent firmware version is v.109, and may be the last one. That doesn't take away from the quality and usefulness of the headset at all. It's still the best noise-cancelling headset I can comfortably wear. Driving a truck I wear one all the time. Having said all that, I have had issues with some of the ones I've purchased more recently, and my wife has too. Some of them don't cancel noise as well as others, though they all come up as the same product, and the same firmware version. Early on, they were all flawless. Lately, they're not. We've had a couple that failed before we managed to destroy them ourselves. And it's possible that more modern devices don't connect as well to the older version of bluetooth these support. This is a very good legacy product. Last note: My wife has one of the newer 5200s, and didn't like it nearly as well as these.

Great headset. I include performance parameters in the review.
I will say here that (1) the voyager legend is an excellent piece of hardware and (2) I find there might be few improvements in software. -I use this while riding on a bicycle. I begin to have difficulty hearing the other end - whether its a person or just the music on my phone - when I reach 20 mph on days with relatively still wind. I start to hear wind over the music at 15 mph. By the time I can't hear the person on the other end, I am going 30 mph with my face straight forward. -I've been in a steady down-pour for roughly and hour, such to the point that my clothing and hair were soaked. The Voyager Legend did not cease to function, and its performance did not decrease. If you look it up on the vendor's website, they'll say that the legend has a p2 protection system, or a nano-coating of water repellent (http://www.plantronics.com/us/product/voyager-legend#overview). It's under the heading of "moisture protection." Now, into the software: -I have not noticed an effective transfer from the phone to the legend when playing music. If you're expecting it to pause music should you only remove it from your ear, you'll sometimes be disappointed. Their claims as to how it works for an incoming phone call, however, are on point - if you pick up the Legend while your phone is ringing and put it on your ear, it picks up. -The voice command feature is not very good, although that might well be the fault of my particular phone and not the headset's software. My particular complaint is telling the phone to call "such and such" is often misinterpreted as a completely different number. -My headset arrived (I bought it used) arrived and did not have all the voice commands that are in the manual. Also, since I bought it used, I didn't get the features that come with it new. I did not get the charging case or the computer usb for pairing to the headset. I received only the headset and the charging cord. **UPDATE** I purchased this in June 2015; it is now January 2016. It has been 7 months. The headset still functions well. It did glitch in such a way that the other party could not understand me, and sometimes I can't understand them. This happened fewer than 10 times, and most of the time it functions perfectly. Talk time has not degraded noticeably since its purchase; there is no charge port damage due to the magnetic charging clip. At some point I managed to get an air bubble underneath the rubberish skin that has yet to go away, but it doesn't affect anything and the water resistant seal is still operational. Sound quality, for the most part, is excellent, although I have a habit of paying less attention to my enunciation when I'm using the bluetooth. I do not use the headset with great frequency now, although I used to use it a lot to listen to music.

Automotive Technicians Best Friend
I usually do not write reviews, but these headsets are increasing popular and are safe for everyone to use on the road so I thought I'd give it a shot. I am an automotive technician by trade and I use this headset everyday at work. From the moment I walk out of the house for the day up until the moment I get back home this is on my head. The battery lasts very long and I do not find myself recharging it during the day. This headset works excellent for me, and the noise canceling features must work very well, because when using it in a busy and noisy automotive shop, I have never had a caller unable to hear me. I also like that I am able to pair both my personal phone, and my work phone at the same time. Throughout my day I also steam music and the quality is fair for what it is, a bluetooth headset. I have been very impressed with how durable the headset has been. Sweating in the hot summer sun at work, and dropping it, touching it with greasy and oily hands has not proved to be an issue with this device. It is functioning very well and I can guarantee I am much harder on this headset than most other consumers are. PROS: -Good Battery life -Noise cancellation -durability -sound quality -2 phones paired at one time, voice commands, etc CONS: -Does tend to get a little uncomfortable on your ear after prolonged wear, but after 2 weeks I got used to it -Not stylish- in public you tend to look like a burger king drive thru worker All in all, if this was stolen or lost, I would not hesitate to buy another. I have another headset that is smaller for use when in public and not at work, and it is also a plantronics. I have no reason to search elsewhere and I have been very happy with this and other plantronics headsets. As always, my experience with Amazon.com was also perfect, speedy, and problem free.

if you use your phone to communicate throughout your work day, especially while driving, this is the headset to purchase
AMAZING headset!! Yes, it is a little pricey but well worth the cost. I was a little reluctant to spend $80 on a headset, but I am very happy that I made the plunge. I am a field Communications Technician out in the field, driving my work truck all day. I use my headset 12 to 13 hours a day so I need a good quality, good hands-free operation, and most importantly, a comfortable head set with great battery life, and this head set does it all!! As long as I am not sweating allot (don't want to short out the head set) I am able to keep this head set on for my entire day (13 hours) without any discomfort. I actually forget that I am wearing it. I need to use 2 phones throughout my day, all day (one wok owned I Phone, and my personal Droid) and this headset stays connected to both phones flawlessly. Over the last 10 years I have had at least 12 different headsets, from nearly every manufacturer but I have never had a headset that did not have difficulties when using 2 phones at the same time. The sound quality is perfect for music, radio, and phone. I setup surround sound for my music and I am AMAZED!! It sounds like I have a speaker in each ear. I don't know how they do this, but I was amazed!! The hands free features work flawlessly. For the most part, I don't have to touch my phone at all. I hit the call button on the boom, say, "Call Dispatch", the headset replies "Call Dispatch", I say yes, and the phone calls dispatch. If I get a call while I am driving, the phone rings and I can say "answer" or "ignore". The head set has a separate volume button which may seem unimportant, but it's not. It is very important when driving a company vehicle all day. There is no fumbling around trying to lower or increase volume while driving. I just picked up my headset to check the status... I had the headset on from 7:30 AM till 7:00PM yesterday, I used it all day to keep in touch with my companies dispatch and to pre-call customers. I left the headset on all night and right now, 20 hours from last using it and there is 4 hours of talk-time left!!! Keep in mind, I listen to my favorite radio station through my Droid phone during the day too. When a call comes through, or I make a call, the radio automatically lowers the volume. When I am done with the call my talk radio volume comes back to where I had it set previously. Granted, spending $80 on an item that is easily lost or broken is a difficult decision for the average worker-bee. But, if you use your phone to communicate throughout your work day, especially while driving, this is the headset to purchase. So far, I have not found one little negative feature.

Has some great features, but...
I bought this for my wife but she's not thrilled with it. It's a little heavy - perhaps twice the weight or more of the Voyager 520s she has used for years. It doesn't have the in-the-ear fitting, it's more up-to-the-ear. I think that will just take some getting used to. My wife isn't really excited about it but I think that it announces callers by contact name rather than by number is pretty cool - especially when you can't immediately reach or find your phone. Voice answer is good, too, but takes a little practice to satisfy the voice recognition in the headset. So, why 3 stars instead of 4 or 5? The proprietary charging system is why. After having spent years buying expensive proprietary charging devices, especially expensive when buying car chargers, for Plantronics headsets I had hoped that Plantronics had joined the rest of the industry in using micro-USB for charging like my Motorola HX550 does. Instead, I find myself having to buy a bunch more proprietary chargers. The charger cable connects magnetically and is easily dislodged, leaving you with an uncharged headset. Even worse - terrible, even, is that the charging cable is only about 1 foot long! That means that you have to plug the thing in and reach to the floor just about to get to the headset. I don't know about you, but I don't have tables 12 inches off the ground right next to my outlets. Hanging a magnet connection by the heavy headset pretty much means the headset is on the floor. This charging system is just about the stupidest thing I have seen in cellular phone accessories. So.. that's why 3 stars. Update 7/12/14. After having this a few months I have to update. No longer is it worthy of even 3 stars but it's not quite bad enough to get one star since I haven't yet thrown it away. My wife eventually refused to use the headset and I got stuck with it when I lost my Voyager 520 - we had used those for years. What I found with the voyager legend is that, for all it's high-tech features, it really fails as a functional tool. Voice recognition on the phone is broken. On the 520, redialing always redialed the last dialed number - what you expect from redial. With the Legend, redial is not redial; it's dial. It dials the last call, inbound or outbound. So an incoming wrong number or telemarketing call breaks your redial to call back your office or wife. Redial on the legend almost never gets me to who it is that I want to talk. Even worse, with the Legend if your headset disconnects for any reason, just walking to the next room, redial will complain that there's no number to dial. When I installed the Legend I had to approve it to access my call history on my phone but it doesn't do anything useful with it. Even though it has access, the legend won't figure out who the last call was once you've walked out of the room and back, disconnecting and reconnecting the headset. Also, my phone had voice dial that worked with the 520. With the Legend it interrupts the voice commands to try to handle it in the Legend rather than the phone making voice dial on the phone impossible. We ended up getting my wife a Plantronics M55 for about 1/4 the price of the legend and she likes it fine even though it is more cheaply made and, therefore less comfortable than the Voyager 520. I'm more practical and won't throw away the Legend; I'll use it while it lasts but I won't buy another nor will I recommend that anyone buy one. Update 8/26/2014. Ok, I'm going with the one star now. Because I use my mobile phone for work,, I need reliability and quality in a headset. The Legend has a sensor that detects when you put the headset on and take it off. Apparently it is not very reliable. As I wear the Legend in important phone calls, it would switch back and forth between headset and handset to the point that I had important customers complaining. The Legend is in the trash replaced with the 29 dollar M55. That's about 150 dollars in headset and charging accessories/cables down the drain. What a waste.

Better than previous headsets, but not perfect, with some annoyances
The Bad 1. First thing you need to do when you get this headset - attach it to your computer and turn on the high quality voice (sorry, don't remember what they call it). It ships with it off by default, and frankly, it's not very good with it off. It was much, much better with it turned on. It should really have been shipped with it turned on by default. 2. It uses a proprietary magnetic charger, not standard micro usb. Again - annoying. The charger works ok, but now it requires carrying 2 chargers with you everywhere you go rather than just 1. Did you forget the charger at home? With micro usb there's a good chance you can borrow someone else's, and if you can't, you can go to any store and buy a new charger or cable. With the proprietary charger you're out of luck. Good luck finding one in stores, ha. It's also a short, tiny cable that leaves you with no opportunity to leave the headset charging on a desk, night stand, etc. Or if you run out of battery, the cable is way to short to leave it hooked up while using it. 3. While Plantronics professional office headset that I have does bluetooth flawless (with an admittedly much larger base that connects via bluetooth to the cell phone), this headset does not. You somehow still get pops, crackle, very slight dropouts in the conversation. 4. The volume level is ok but not great. Works at home on high volume pretty well, but even there I find myself wishing for a bit more volume. 5. While voices are very legible, they lack...warmth? Midrange? You can understand the words the other person is saying perfectly fine, but conveying warm and friendly tones is difficult. The Good 1. While not perfect (like their larger desk version headset pretty much is), you can hear the details of what the other person is saying very well. It's the best bluetooth headset I've ever used (if you don't count headset with a base station) for that. 2. People on the other end tell me I sound slightly clearer and louder with this headset than I do using my phone directly. Usually it's the opposite. Only one I've used where that's the case - except for other models that have a base station. 3. It's fairly comfortable on your ear. Would give it a 4/5. It's not tiring. A little loose, but no worries at all about it falling off. Lightweight. 4. The power button is a physical button you move up and down which is absolutely great - so tired of the "press, hold...did it come on?" approach. This is much better, really appreciate that. Also, the volume button is also physical and can be used easily while on the call - again nicer than most other headsets I've used. Don't have to fumble around with "oh, which button is it?". It tells you when you're at max volume to, which is nice. I've give it 3.5 stars if I could. But I really think that they should be able to completely get rid of the click and pops in a bluetooth headset in this day and age, and this one doesn't do that.

A great overall experience. I'm happy.
The Plantronics Voyager Legend is one of be nicest Bluetooth devices I’ve owned. As of this review, I've used it for about 6 months. I have a business smartphone (Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge +) and a personal phone (iPhone 6S+) and the Legend works great with both. I can walk about 40+ feet away from either phone and get a notification on the Legend that my phone is ringing. While I need to walk a bit closer to the phone to confidently take the call, the fact I don't have to have either phone constantly attached to my belt at the office or at home is really great. If you go out of range, the Legend will tell you. I have personally found the voice quality to be very good. It also, seamlessly, integrate with the Bluetooth system on my MacBook Pro and my Windows 10 laptop (please note I had to buy the package that contained the USB dongle. The base Legend package does not have it). The built in voice prompts are very nice and work without a problem. I get a solid 6 hours of general use time (more if you’re not on the phone a lot) and it takes about 90+ minutes to charge it back up via its magnetic attaching charger. I wear it all day with comfort. When I take it off, the system knows and will send my calls to the phone itself. Putting on the Legend will transfer my call back to Bluetooth. Over the years, I’ve never had a Bluetooth setup that didn't have some sort of glitch from time to time. On rare occasion, the link is disconnected between the Legend and one of my phones. I can’t trace this aberrant behavior to the Legend or to the phones. Since it is rare I take it as a "glitch"; re-set something and it goes away. I've been very happy with the overall quality of the Legend and would recommend it to anyone. By the way, it pairs with both my phones at the same time. And I've had it paired with my laptop and phone at the same time as well. It works great with computer VOIPs like Skype and others. I really think you’ll enjoy using it.

Best bluetooth headset I've ever used
This is easily the best bluetooth headset I've ever used. I have had the pleasure of testing out many different bluetooth models for various manufacturers, and the issue I always run into is comfort. I have small ears so the over the ear designs are always falling off, and the ones that rely on an earbud alone to stay in place have always been too big to fit properly and end up popping out as well. While the "default" earbud that comes with the headset is too big for my ear, it includes two other sizes, one smaller and one larger. The smaller one fits well and the foam replacements you can buy here on Amazon fit even better. I have worn this for hours while talking to my fiance on a long road trip and it stayed comfortable the entire time and never fell off once. Comfort and fit is a big deal to me, but call quality is also extremely important. I've tried calling many different people, on various different phones. All reported that I came through loud and clear, which is a big deal for me because I tend to speak softly and if I don't have a boom right in front of my mouth, I'm often not heard well or at all. The boom on the Voyager Legend, even though it doesn't come anywhere near my mouth, is able to pick up my voice easily and deliver it clearly. I also did a few tests to try out the background noise filtration and I am absolutely amazed. I called my fiance while in a car with 3 other people talking and laughing with each other and noise playing quite loudly. He reported that he heard none of it, only some muffled sounds he couldn't distinguish but weren't at all distracting or obtrusive. I didn't quite believe him, so I tested it myself in a similar scenario and was very surprised at how well it blocks out everything but the caller's voice. It's a great feature if you're constantly on the go and around other people. I am buying one for him now because every time he's driving in his Mustang, I can barely hear him over the noise of the car, especially when he's running the AC. Incoming call quality is also superb. I had been using Apple earbuds with my iPhone 6 Plus for months because none of my other headsets were comfortable for long periods of time or stayed in place. I had been craving a wireless headset as I tend to talk a lot throughout the day and I don't like being tied down to my phone. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I had my earbuds and/or iPhone yanked away because I got hooked on something. The Voyager Legend is so light and comfortable, I completely forget it's there until I get an incoming call. I wasn't sure if I'd be okay with wearing it all the time due to wanting to avoid the whole techie nerd look, but even with the extended boom, my long, dark hair covers it almost entirely. Even when it doesn't, I don't think it looks bad at all. In fact, it's the nicest looking bluetooth headset I've seen. The Voyager Legend doesn't skimp on other features, either. You have access to a completely hands free device at all times. When a call comes in, you will be told who is calling and then asked if you want to answer the call. You can say "answer" or "ignore". You can also push the call button to answer as well as disconnect. Pushing the talk button while not on a call will prompt you for a voice command. If you have an iPhone, you can hold the call button to activate Siri. The mute button also has multiple functions. It can mute/unmute the call and can also pause or resume music playback. It's nothing super fancy, but it's all I need. One of my favorite features is the auto answer/disconnect feature when the headset is put on or taken off. If I have the headset in my purse and I get a call, I can put it on and it answers the call automatically. Another huge bonus for me was purchasing the optional charging case. The Voyager Legend provides an estimated 7 hours talk time and it seems to hold true to that. However, I take a lot of road trips and I needed a way to charge it on the go. The charge case charges in 90 minutes and will recharge your headset twice on a single charge. It's fairly compact and protects the headset very well with it's hard shell, so it's perfect to toss in my purse. It charges the headset pretty quickly. From what I've seen, you can't use the headset while it's charging so this was a must have for me. I also purchased the desktop charger which holds the headset in place nicely so there's no fear of it accidentally getting under something and getting broken. Even if the extra chargers aren't needed, an extra charging cable is highly recommended. It uses a magnetic charger, much like the MacBook chargers, and can only be charged with the included cable (unless you purchase the charge case). The included cable is extremely short, but you can buy a spare for cheap here on Amazon and it's much longer. It's always nice to have a back up, especially for such a unique cable that can't be found in most local stores if you happen to lose your original one. Overall, it was a great purchase and I'm so glad to have it. My other headsets are collecting dust now!
