Furrion Vision S 5 inch Monitor, Wireless RV Backup System with 1 Rear Sharkfin Camera, IR Night Vision, Waterproof and Wide Viewing Angles - FOS05TASF

I installed this in about 10 minutes on a Rockwood Roo, but the Roo was prewired for the camera. If your rig isn't prewired, there are extra steps you will need to take to make this work for your setup but those are outlined in the install instructions. For the prewired Roo, it already had the black fin plate attached to the back of the rig so I didn't have to drill or caulk anything and honestly it took more time to lug out the ladder than it did to install this whole setup. The first step is to pair the camera with the monitor, which was pretty easy. Plug in the monitor to the cigarette lighter/adapter in the car, then plug the camera into the split wire connection (the monitor power wire has a split connection that you plug the camera into), turn the monitor on and it pairs. You may have to hit the menu button on the side of the monitor and select pairing, but the whole process was very simple. Second step was to install the camera. On the Roo there is a black attachment at the top of the back of the rig that looks like the case the camera is in but without the camera. Essentially you remove the camera from the factory case and mount it in the case already on the rig, which is very easy. On the RV case there is a small plate where the camera mounts which is held on by 4 screws, just unscrew the plate but don't lose the screws because they are very small. Then remove the camera from the case it is installed in and plug the camera into the wire preinstalled in the rig, push the wires back into the case on the rig, then attach the camera with the 4 screws. It is really very easy if your rig already has the black fin case already attached. Finally, adjust the camera to the angle you want and you are set. The monitor attaches to a suction cup which then attaches to your windshield. The monitor plugs into the cigarette lighter/adapter for power. I added a small velcro strap to the wire to bundle it. Overall it has excellent picture quality and is very easy to install and easy to adjust the camera angle. You just "click" the camera up or down by moving it and it stays in place. It does not move at all even when going over rough roads. I used it while driving and had no issue with picture loss and everything was real time. I could see cars coming up on either side of my rig without having lag issues. Also I did not have to "mirror" the image. Cars coming up on the left appeared on the left of the screen, cars on the right appeared on the right, no problem at all. You would just have to double check your connection to see if you would need to mirroe the image. Now for the "CONS". The monitor and the power cord. I hate cords hanging all over the place and this cord is long. I just used a velcro strap to bundle the excess wire and it seemed to work fine but because they used a bulky ciagrette lighter type adapter plug, it stuck out and kept getting in the way until we got use to it being there. I wish they would have thought about using a USB cord to power the monitor because then I wouldn't have had the huge adapter getting in the way. Honestly though, that would be my only real complaint. Overall the camera and monitor are an excellent addition to my rig. My only suggestion or recommendation to Furrion is to work on making this iphone/android compatible so that the monitor setup could be replaced using a phone or tablet. But again, this is a great setup for my rig.

Easy to install and worked flawlessly the very first time! I spent about ten (10) minutes from the time I removed the camera from the packaging to installing it and viewing it on my monitor. It’s that easy if your RV comes prewired like mine! I’ve had it for a few months and zero regrets! I added a small bit of loctite to the antenna for good measure.

Great camera. We have a wide angle view of the traffic behind us and is a great help in backing up. Highly recommend to all RV enthusiasts.

I bought this camera in 2021 and it is still going strong. My trailer was not prewired but the installation was not difficult. I have the larger screen and the image is bright and very clear. The wide view can be handy when using it as a backup camera, but I find it compromises its use as a rear view mirror. The fisheye effect makes it hard to even see cars until they are very close. There is some lag time despite my small 13’ trailer. That’s not an issue at slow speeds and backing up. At highway speeds though, I notice I can see a car is overtaking me while the camera still shows it just reaching the back of the trailer. I gave it 4 stars for the quality of the image, ease of installation and durability.

Bought this because my travel trailer was pre-wired for the Furrion backup cameras and included a sharkfin mount pre-installed. I've always had trouble seeing where I am backing up but this cures this problem. The package arrived and I went about installing the camera. First, I checked the monitor/camera pairing with the monitor power cable (it included a pigtail for the camera power cord). Paired perfectly! Picture was crystal clear. Next, I removed the cover plate to the pre-installed shark-fin mount on the back wall of the trailer, plugged the camera wire into the pre-wired power jack dongle, and ...... nothing. No power. Checked voltage and there was power there, but the camera didn't function. Hmmm! So I pulled the shark-fin mount and discovered the power dongle had been wired in reverse (hot [red wire] to ground [white wire]; ground [black wire] to hot [green wire]). On RVs, the trailer's white wire is the ground and the green wire is the power for the running lights. Rewired the dongle so it was correct, powered on the running lights and checked the camera. Success! Camera worked just fine! Remounted everything, installed the camera and everything was fine. The camera also has a microphone and the monitor a speaker so if someone is guiding you while backing into a slot, you can hear their instructions clearly. A very nice touch, indeed! While towing, I used it as a rear-view "mirror" that worked day and night (the camera also has night vision and IR lights for illumination). Nice! The running lights must be on for the camera to function. You can turn your headlights on to activate the trailer's running lights. This is essential with the GM automatic headlight systems. But, if you have factory-installed fog lamps, turn them on and your trailer running lights will turn on as well. The camera works just fine. If you use the camera to assist with passing or lane changes remember thing are closer than they appear, so be sure to check your mirrors as well to check the clearance of the back of the trailer with the passed vehicle. The monitor and mirrors compliment each other for clearance issues. All in all, an excellent and very useful accessory for any trailer owner. Highly recommend!

UPDATE 11/1/2020: I have used this for several months and trips. It has performed without any problem. I really like using it as a rear view mirror. Can clearly see when another driver is tailgating me, especially small cars that can hide behind the trailer. It makes backing into a back-in campsite very easy; the guidelines let me know when I am lined up straight, no more jockeying with wife waving one way or the other to get into the campsite. No more swiveling my head right and left to look in the side mirrors, no blind spots. Oh what a joy it is! Feb. 15, 2020: I bought this unit because the trailer was prewired for it. I wanted this camera to be on so I could use it as a rear view mirror while traveling so rewired the camera to a waterproof switch next to the batteries. Now I can use it when traveling without having to turn the vehicle/trailer running lights on. The picture is clear. The description says it has infrared for night time but so far this is not working for me, the image is just black; manual says it will be in black/white when using the infrared. I will adjust the brightness/contrast to see if that solves the issue. It would be easy to install if connecting to the trailer clearance lights if not already prewired by the manufacturer. Mine was a little more complicated as I needed to run a new wire from the battery bank to the location on the trailer rear panel. Due to foam insulation I had to run the wire inside the cabinets, I used surface wire conduits to do so. Took a while but I have a clean install and it works the way I want it to. I recommend this device even if it is on the expensive side; I think it could be half the price. You can get side cameras but I would recommend the larger display if you go that route as they are picture-in-picture.

I really like the device. Nice picture, and easy to install as well. We have a 43 foot trailer - so the wireless connection is a little slow and the antenna must be deployed. The only issue I have is a delay when you are backing up. Mine works off of the back up lights - so it only is on when you are in reverse - I need to rewire it to the clearance lights for use on the road and to get away from that delay. Edit - after a couple years - the lens on the camera has clouded up - to the point where its too dark too see what is behind me, especially with sunglasses on. I suspect it maybe the same lens that Ford is using as I have the same issue with my F350 truck and there is a recall on that currently. Also one other issue - the monitor's brightness cannot be turned up - it would help considerably in being able to actually see the screen on a bright day. I hope that Furrion reads this Update after 2.5 years (Nov 11,2023): My camera lens has fogged over to the point that I cannot see things well enough to trust it. I suspect in one more year I will be unable to see anything out of it. I also drive a Ford F-350 with cameras - 5 in all. Ford had a recall for their lenses fogging over and replaced them all just this week. They said it was the sun causing the issue. My truck is always facing south when parked. The front camera was COMPLETELY black in the video and the others were foggy to various degrees. The Furrion camera is experiencing the same fogginess as the cameras on my truck. I will assume they will become completely black and totally unusable within 2 more years - as this camera faces north at home and is covered when in Florida by an awning. I will attempt to contact Furrion and see what their response is and report back here. Right now I have to say - avoid this company's products with cameras. Edit: (Nov 13 2023) Contacted Lippert (the camera manufacturer) - they say I have to replace the camera. Now I say to all of you - do not buy this brand. Ford replaced all 5 of the cameras on my truck at no cost. Same symptoms, except the camera on the sun facing side went COMPLETELY black! The camera was purchased in Mar 2020 and installed shortly after. It faced away from the sun about 75% of the time or was covered by an awning. I suspect that if the lens faced the sun all the time it may last but 2 years or even less. Everything else works fine on the unit.

Great! Have one for both trailers. In my mind they're a must have!

My Rockwood 2109S came factory prepped for a Furrion system. The bracket and wiring was all there. Installation was very very easy, remove 4 screws plug in a wire, place camera.install 4 screws. The kit came with the camera mounted an extra FRCBRKT-BL bracket, had to remove the camera from it to install. Also there is another power wire in the kit. Camera is clear and do not experience any "drop outs", signal strength is good 2 to 3 bars out of 4. Trailer is wired so that I have to have marker lights on to power camera. System is priceless for backing unit up. The sound feature being able to hear helper at rear of unit is awesome! Being able to see behind you as you drive is also nice, would be nice if you could see a bit farther though. Very happy with system so far has exceeded my expectations.

Never purchased anything quite so straightforward and easy to install. Linked immediately, and the sound is surprisingly clear. Should have purchased it sooner.

After a purchasing a Furrion "compatible" back up camera for our RV and being quite disappointed (which we promptly returned) we decided to go with an original Furrion since our RV was pre-wired. It is absolutely plug & play - we had the camera installed and the monitor set up in less 20 minutes. The monitor (ours is the 5" model) is beautiful quality; light and easy to attach to the windshield. Although it is capable of using up to 4 cameras, we are only using it for one at the rear of the unit. We've recently used it for parking our RV and it worked perfectly, giving a large field of view. It also has an audio function where the driver can easily hear someone at the back of the unit providing direction if needed, so the microphone has good pickup. In theory, that person could converse with the driver but, for me (the directing person), the camera speaker is too high to clearly hear anything being said. May work well for someone who doesn't have hearing issues though. Although the cost was considerably higher than the original "compatible" kit we ordered, I think it was ultimately worth the money. I would recommend the Furrion Vision S, particularly if you have a pre-wired RV.

Works great for my trailer

Works great. Gives plenty of view when backing up. Super easy to install. Pretty much "plug and play". Doesn't come with outdoor marine grade caulking. Which would have have been nice. But you don't need much. Not a big tube. Go with a smaller bottle. Unless you have use for a bunch of leftovers. Otherwise it's great and work exactly as advertised. I'm very happy with mine.
