Worth the money and trying if your nipples need a break!
Bought this as a recommendation from my LC and they really helped and saved my nips to heal when they were cracked or any type of soreness. The space they create between your bra/clothes/pads and your nipples is amazing and the relief they provide are everything you’re wanting when need that extra love healing in the area. They can catch some milk but I wouldn’t use them for that. I wear them mostly at night and with some pads. These were a saving Grace for Our breastfeeding journey in the beginning and even time to time I’ll use them. My Little one is 17mo and still BF. .

Protection for sore nipples from pumping
Keeps fabric/breast pads from rubbing on sore nipples. Fits well. Easy to use and assemble. Life saver.

Helpful, but not perfect
I found that the more narrow ring of the two provided actually caused more discomfort than it fixed. I wore these shells to protect blistered, painful nipples from friction against clothing, and when I wore the more narrow rings under a bra they pushed so hard into the breast that the pain spread from my nipple to other parts of the breast. They left an angry red line on the breast when they were removed. The wider rings (that I believe are meant to help with inverted nipples) were a little more comfortable for me. As other reviewers have mentioned, the cups have a tendency to collect leaking milk, although the seal is not tight, so milk can still leak under the edge of the rings. I found I was MORE likely to wake with a wet shirt if I wore these at night...they seemed to somehow stimulate a letdown, because I never woke up soaked otherwise. I have, however, poured the milk that collects on one side while I'm nursing on the other directly into the mouth of my baby through the vent holes. He seems to find that a fascinating milk delivery system.

A Missed Opportunity for Nipple Care!
The Overview: I turned to Medela TheraShells in hopes of relief from nipple irritation and a rash that developed after a few months of breastfeeding, exacerbated by my history of eczema. Unfortunately, these breast shells fell short in both comfort and functionality. The Good: Conceptually Useful: The idea behind these shells, to allow nipples to air out and avoid contact with clothing, is sound. My lactation specialist recommended them for this purpose. The Not-So-Good: Size Mismatch: The biggest issue was the size. My nipples did not fit within the shell's space, leading to direct contact with the plastic, which only worsened the irritation instead of alleviating it. The nipple pressing against the plastic and sliding around was counterproductive. Uncomfortable and Bulky: The assembly is quite thick, resembling a doughnut, making it very noticeable under clothing. When worn with a bra, it looked strange and was far from practical for daily wear, detracting from the comfort and discreetness one would expect from such a product. Ineffective for My Needs: Instead of helping, these shells made my rash worse, leading me to discard them after a short trial. Overall: While the concept of TheraShells is appealing for those needing nipple protection or healing, in my experience, they were not only ineffective but actually detrimental. The size was too small for comfort, and the design was not conducive to everyday use, particularly for someone with sensitive skin or existing skin conditions like eczema. Pros: Intended to promote healing by allowing air circulation Cons: Too small for many nipple sizes, leading to further irritation Bulky and impractical design under clothing Worsened my existing skin condition instead of improving it Conclusion: For someone with sensitive skin or specific issues like mine, I would caution against using these Medela TheraShells. They might work for some, but for me, they were a letdown, exacerbating rather than soothing my condition. I ended up seeking alternative methods to manage my nipple health during breastfeeding.

Revived my Breastfeeding Journey!
I just had my 7th baby, qnd this product has finally got me thinking I could long twrm breastfeed! My babies have tiny mouths and tiny lip ties. Combine this with how absolutely engorgwd I get when my milk vomes in, and uts just a painful experience for both me and baby. I would say where was this product 10 years ago when I had myfirst, but I'm certsin the version of this product was around. I used it with every baby, but it was only the sore nipple attachment version. I went to find the product again for my sore nipples, but only gound this ine that also had the flat/inverted nipple attachment. I used this attachment first, just because, and as soon as I took it off the first time, my nipple area was so large! I realized this is likely what normal nurse-able nipples are supposed to look like! I didnt ever think that I had flat nipples... No wonder my babies always have trouble getting a good latch! I also tried a nipple shield for the first time, and oh my goodness! These two products have completely changed what I thoight was possible after having 7, yes 7, babies with tiny little latches... I think woth the help of these, the engorgement phase isnt going to be a pain, and we can nurse through the first few sore weeks without making me want to throe in the towel before 1 week of breast feeding. I feel like I can finally live my dream of being like those normal moms with babies with genetically larger mouths that can just nurse with ease... these have made that dream a reality! 100/10 DO recommend!

Functional but leaky!
As far as providing relief to sore nipples and keeping flat nipples everted, I give it 5 stars. When it comes to the functionality though, I give it 3. I guess they do exactly what they are supposed to--prevent engorgement. But what you end up with is milk evrywhere, no matter which ring you are using. When you try to remove them, no matter how careful you are, milk spills out the vent holes and gets everywhere. I'm not knocking Medela overall, though. Love the company and their products overall. The Harmony hand pump is awesome!

Allowed me to continue exclusively pumping
I've been having a hard time exclusively pumping and it's tearing my nipples and areolas apart. I've been trying to find the correct flanges that will fit me correctly. After pumping, it is so painful to put on my bra or even have my shirt touching my nipples. These shells have helped me continue my pumping journey and I highly recommend them to anyone who has sore nipples from nursing or pumping. I do wear them with a bra that is a cup size bigger than what I am due to the shape of these shells and they work great. I have spent tons of money trying to find relief from my discomfort and these things are the only things that have given me some relief.

Great for nipple pain from breastfeeding or pumping! I wish I discovered these sooner!
I was given a set of these from a lactation consultant a few weeks into my breastfeeding journey for my twins. I was struggling with extreme nipple pain and sensitivity and I was on the verge of quitting breastfeeding and pumping. These saved me! I wish I had discovered them sooner. I loved them so much that I bought a second set so that I always had a clean pair when I needed them. I put these in for a few minutes after pumping to help my nipples transition from pumping to being touched by my bra/clothes. I have accidentally fallen asleep with them in and I do not recommend that because they leave a mark and made my nipples feel itchy plus when pressure is applied and you are engorged you may leak. While I love them I will say I think they look ridiculous because they give you this strange puffy nipple appearance so I don't wear them out of the house. I'm an exclusive pumper now and I don't feel the need to use these as often, but I still will use them after pumping if I have any pain or sensitivity.
