Verified Purchase. I bought this Verbatim external drive for a specific work project where I needed to digitise some training DVDs and upload them to our server. It has handled the task perfectly and been incredibly reliable. Pros: Plug and play: It is entirely USB powered, so there are no bulky power bricks or extra cables to carry around. Flawless ripping: Reads older training discs smoothly without freezing or stalling during the data transfer. Slim and portable: It takes up almost no space on a desk and slips easily into a laptop bag. Wide compatibility: Worked instantly on my PC setup without needing to hunt down manual drivers. Cons: USB 2.0 speeds: It uses a USB 2.0 interface, so data transfers are standard DVD speeds rather than lightning-fast, but it gets the job done reliably. Functions well but far from a robust case so okay for infrequent use which is what I purchased it for. Supporting Nero software a real bonus if needed otherwise maybe just more bloat on the PC. Happy with purchase overall but a bit pricey for what it is.

Great product for ripping bought audio CDs on my laptop and in iTunes and burning regular DVD & CDs

My new laptop did not have an internal CD writer, which meant finding an external device. After two false starts (neither model would not burn CDs from WMP) I bought the Verbatim writer and so far it's been very good: it plays, rips and burns to perfection. My only reservation (which is why this is not a 5-star review) is that the CD drawer is quite fragile. It needs handling carefully to ensure long life.

Great works well

This does not work with a new iMac despite what the sales blurb says. It will connect to the iMac via the supplied USB C adaptor and the power light will come on; the loading tray will open and close after you've clipped in a CD/DVD but it will not play it or even show the drive in Finder. The external drive is findable by doing a system report, but disk utility cannot see it. I've given it 1 star because it does work with my 2017 Airbook, but I bought it to work with my newer iMac. It is light which you may think is a bonus but it is this light because it is very cheaply made and feels like a strong gust of wind could blow it apart. It has quite high reviews which is confusing as it is supposed to be a plug and play device but does not work. A few forums state that the new Macs may not give off enough power from their USB C ports to power devices and that you should use a powered USB hub, but there is no mention of that in the product description. I shall return this poorly made device and buy something that actually works.

I wanted a CD player I could rip CD's from, and so far, this one has worked absolutely fine for this. I did purchase another CD player from another brand on here that barely worked at all Note - For some reason, if you put a CD in, take it out, and then put another one in, the tray will be rejected from the unit for a short time. I'm unsure of why this is, but if you wait a moment or two, the tray can be inserted with no performance issues

Arrived promptly, in good order. Worked straight away, no fuss. Very pleased after purchasing another brand (Australian owned) and it didn't work, no real instructions. Super happy with my Verbatim Mobile CD/DVD Writer/Reader.

This cd player and burner has seriously been with me for a long time now and has never once failed me. Even when I tilt it and made it do a buzzing sound as I’m burning something on it, it works perfectly fine. Surprisingly durable for home use bot sure about outside use or dropping though. Also the ease of use it very much there and you just drag files to the disk and then click to burn or not and leave it editable and its so easy to do so. Also its light and fast as well so it is just perfect!

A little trouble opening and closing the DVD drawer each time. Finally the burner burned a disk and would not release it, no matter what I did. I had to take it apart, which damaged the disk It had burned and ruined the rewriter. I use Verbatim DVD's.

I recently bought the Verbatim 98938 External Slimline USB 2.0 CD/DVD printer to transfer some old CDs to my PC, and overall, it did a good job. The device is compact, lightweight, and very easy to use - just plug and play, no bulky power adapter needed. It also comes with Nero Burn & Archive Software, which was a nice bonus. However, I did run into an issue where it couldn't read some DVDs on the first try. It eventually worked, but it took a couple of attempts. Despite this minor hiccup, it handled most of my discs without any trouble. If you're looking for an affordable and portable CD/DVD reader, I recommend this product. Just be aware that it might take a little patience with some discs. I bought the USB 2.0 version, and it’s a solid choice for basic needs. 4/5 stars!
