Countdown to Extinction

I remember buying CTE on casette back in July 92, and I was hooked on the first listen. Then later, I bought the 2004 remix and remastered version on CD and I didn't really like that version as I had thought I would. Now, CTE has been put back into its original state, but remastered for better sound quality,...and it doesn't get any better than this! This will remind all fans who remember the first release how awesome this album was and still is! All instruments, vocals, and effects are clearly heard and it all sounds crystal clear. Buy this version only! Don't waste your time and money ont the 2004 remixed,remastered version. Buy this version instead and hear "Countdown" the way it should be heard! Oh, by the way,..the bonus CD of the live performance at The Cow Palace is awesome as well. I went to this tour back in Dec. 92 in Houston, Tx. and the setlist was the same as on the CD. Awesome show!

I've been collecting Megadeth stuff since decade ago and this is a must buy for me for the live cd and poster alone. They did a good job on remastering one, unlike 2004 remastered which has different snare sound ,this one pretty much retained the same sound like the original release but with notable louder bass volume and slightly thicker guitar tone. The second disc is awesome, it's the classic Megadeth 90's line up playing songs from peace sells, so far, rust in peace, countdown and "This was my life" and the title track are on the setlist, cant ask for more! I believe those 2 songs has not been played since 1995 until the recent Countdown anniversary tour, off course without the original album line up. While I like the 2004 remastered series for its bonus stuff (unreleased songs and demos), I wish they remaster the album itself the way they did for this Countdown anniversary, just make the sound more "in your face" but no remixing. _\M/

Megadeths answer to "The Black Album", Countdown stayed closer to thrash metals roots than his ex bandmates chose to. While definitely a lot hookier with more accessible riffs, Dave didn't forget that the genre he helped create was built on speed and aggression. Maybe "Symphony" was an attempt to get some MTV time but that's hardly the case with the rest of the album. I don't do track by track reviews because its all a matter of opinion but there isn't a weak one here. With the second disc of a complete live show this version is the way to go if buying this one. If only they'd give Rust in Peace this kind of release they'd have all their greats covered as far as deluxe editions. *****

Twenty years ago, my dad stood outside a record store at midnight to buy this album for me, I didn't get it from him until almost a month later and had to 'buy' it from him. I think he got more release swag for being an 'old' guy. So now twenty years later for the remastered release, I ordered on Amazon and in less than 24-hours I have it in my hands and immediately in the cd player (surprised it still worked). I still think this was Megadeth's best lineup, at least musically - I know personally they had a lot of issues. The remastered tracks sound even more amazing than they did 20 years ago. Get this album (along with Rust In Peace) and bang your head til you bleed!

It was a really great idea to release a commemorative 20th anniversary version of Megadeth's Countdown To Extinction. The good aspects are the remastered disc, which sounds great (even not being remixed as the 2004's Remixed And Remastered version) because we have the original sound of that record improved without changing its structure. Another good thing is to have a bonus live CD with the entire Cow Palace 1992 concert on it, which is a good deal. Flaws? Yes, that product have some: - I know that live concert is a bit longer; I mean, they put all the songs on the CD, but edited some of the Mustaine's speaking during songs to fit in just one CD, instead of two. It could be better to keep it like the original, it would definetly sound more natural, for it's own good. - Also about the live record: I don't understand why Mustaine agreed to remix (again...) this live audio with Johnny K, since that concert (or maybe just part of that concert, I really don't know for sure) was (re)mixed by Andy Sneap (just check some live songs of the 2007's box set Warchest, and/or the 2008 compliation Anthology: Set The World Afire to check what I'm saying), and it was perfect in that way. I don't really think, based on that, that we got an "improved sound" thanks to that Mustaine's option considering that this 2007's Andy Sneap remix was already perfect and indeed much better than that one made by Johnny K. - A bonus DVD with some rare footage would be nice. - The booklet could be more complete, and/or with more text/info/photos. - No bonus tracks on disc 1. I mean, in the original japanese version they added the songs Breakpoint and Go To Hell, and even in the Remixed & Remastered version from 2004 we got the complete version of Crown of Worms as bonus, as well as some demo versions of some songs of the album. To think that there's a plenty of B-sides of that era unreleased til now... I know that this version of Countdown To Extincton pales completely in comparison with the 25th Anniversary Edition of Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?, released in 2011. But that's a 20th anniversary edition, not 25th. And who knows what they will add when they re-released it again in 2017, as a 25th Anniversary Edition (do you REALLY think they will not do that in 2017?)? Anyway, it is a good addition, but it really could be more complete.

I am a huge megadeth fan. I have the original album and the remixed and mastered one as well. I bought this specifically for the live album which is a must have. Some of the tracks they play on it you can't hear live anymore or are very very rare and these are GREAT quality. The main album sounds crisp, not heavily edited and no loudness tweaks. The added poster is nice too, but I wish it was a standard 3 x 5. If you are a fan, you likely already have it and may be apprehensive about getting it- Don't be. Get the live cd for you and give the other cd to someone who needs more metal in their life!

Poco que decir de este uno de los discos mas conocidos de Megadeth. La presente edicion incluye el disco remasterizado, otro disco con un concierto en San Francisco (1992) que suena impresionante, ambos en sobres tipo Mini LP. Tambien se incluye un poster gigante, 4 postales/fotos de los miembros de la mejor epoca de la banda y librillo con las letras y guia de canciones. Todo esto dentro de una caja rigida de gran calidad y excelente diseño. Por este precio es compra obligatoria para cualquier seguidor de la banda o el metal en general.

Ich versuche mich kurz zu halten und werde nicht explizit auf Megadeth bzw. deren Songs eingehen (werde sowieso nie verstehen warum Leute 'ne Rezension schreiben, gerade bei Musik auch allgemein, und über jeden Song oder jedes Detail berichten müsen)?! Ich denke als Megadeth-Hörer kennt man sowieso schon deren history bzw. nahezu alle Songs!!! Let's Schtart: Die remastered CD macht fett was her vom Sound. Auf jeden Fall ein Unterschied zur regulären Version. Über den Sound der Live-Scheibe kann man ebenfalls absolut nicht meckern...man hört zwischem den Songs auch ab und an mal den Dave irgendwelche netten bzw. un-netten Kommentare ablassen :-) richtig Cool - da kommt Fäschtiwel-Stimmung auf! Bei vielen Live Compilations ist das alles rausgeschnitten! Das Poster kommt richtig fett rüber: Satte Farben und überhaupt cooles Design an sich! Die Postkarten....hm.....wer als Mann draufsteht profile-shots von irgendwelchen anderen Männern an die Wand zu hängen?! Naja....würd' sagen nur was für die echten Hardcore-Fans! Ich brauch's nicht unbedingt, war halt dabei! Die Box an sich hat 'ne gute Qualität und fällt nicht gleich beim Auspacken schon auseinander - irgendwo aufstellen lohnt sich also! Abschließend gibt's zu sagen: Ich hatte bisher die "Countdown..." noch nicht, jedenfalls nicht Original ;-), daher habe ich sofort zugegriffen. Für alle diejenigen, die die 1992 Edition schon haben würde ich sagen: trotzdem zugreifen!!! Wie gesagt der Sound ist auf jeden Fall wesentlich besser (aber hier scheiden sich ja die Geister, viele stehen auf den alten Sound) - die Remastered klingt allerdings eher nach "live", was meiner Meinung sowieso am Besten ist! Die "richtige" Live-CD auch top! Poster ebenfalls top! Postkarten....hm....wie gesagt! Aber insgesamt für dieses Preis-Leistung-Verhältnis kann man im Prinzip nur 'ne glatte 1 vergeben!
