Great coffee maker and excellent warranty service!
I love this coffee maker. It makes coffee precisely and just the way I like it every time, regardless of the number of cups selected. The front control panel is a little challenging to figure out when it comes to programming, but once you get that set, you're good to go. It is easy to clean and works like a charm.But... Mine failed after about 10 months - it stopped sensing whether there was water in the reservoir and would not brew. However, I called customer service, explained the problem, sent a photo and had a replacement within 2 days. Surprisingly outstanding customer service and warranty support. Now, I had given this very same model to a friends two years ago, and theirs is still working perfectly and they love it. So while I don't know exactly why mine failed, I don't think it is necessarily a problem with the model itself. And the warranty support was excellent. Highly recommended.

Decent coffee, with some problems (UPDATE_
UPDATE - This is a poorly made piece of junk. Since the review written below, coffee maker #2 broke with the same problem coffee maker #1 arrived with. I did a warranty exchange and got coffee maker #3, which eventually started grinding the same amount of beans regardless of setting and now will not brew at all. Three coffee makers, all broken despite being maintained properly. Not even 1 year. Next time I'm just buying a basic drip coffee maker and decent grinder.I'd normally have given this 4 stars but I ran into some quality control issues that isn't really acceptable for a fairly expensive coffee maker. I bought this to replace an existing all in one burr grinder coffee maker that had started giving up the ghost. When I first attempted brew a pot, the coffee maker didn't do anything other than hum and a couple drops of water dripped out. I thought maybe the burr grinder was jammed so I emptied the hopper and tried my best to get all the beans out of the grinder. Here's the first design problem - there's no way to really access the grinder in any meaningful fashion. If it's jammed, you're SOL, you can't get anything in there to clear it. Maybe it was jammed, maybe it wasn't. I have no idea.I kept trying to get it to work, and the coffee maker refused to even attempt to grind. It would keep alerting me that I hadn't cleared the basket from the previous attempt... but it was empty and I had opened and closed it multiple times. Attempts to just run a basic no-grind drip and maybe force a reset were met with the same sort of hum as if it was still trying to grind. I gave up, returned it, and got a replacement. This really annoyed me especially considering my previous coffee maker also required replacement (twice in fact) when I first got it.Coffee maker number 2, I ran a basic no-grind, no-coffee cycle to just flush out the system as suggested in the manual. That ran fine, and then I attempted to make a normal grind. Because I hadn't opened the basket between the flush and my attempt to make coffee, it refused to grind with it thinking the basket had not been emptied. Again, as suggested by the directions, I stopped the cycle opened the basket, reseated it, closed it and tried again. It still refused to grind. It was stuck in a state of thinking the basket was full. I tried many combinations reseating the basket, but nothing worked. I finally got it to work after resorting to unplugging and plugging it back in. Which brings up design issue #2 - there's no way to override what it thinks its state is. You can't just say "do it anyway". That's a relatively minor issue provided that a power cycle always resets it.So now it's been working fine. How does it work in normal operation? It's acceptable.Pros: 12 cup capacity is nice, and the hopper is decently sized. Grinder is also relatively quiet for an inexpensive burr grinder.Con: This is a big one for me, and what knocks a star off - you can't adjust the fineness of the grind. The coffee I like tastes best when it's more finely ground than the grinder is set to. That means I have to set the grind amount higher than the number of cups I'm making. So if I'm making 10 cups, I have to set the grind to 12 cups. I feel like I'm just wasting coffee when I could use less coffee if I could set a finer grind. This would be a really great coffee maker if you could just set the grind fineness.

TY Cuisinart - Finally!
I bought this machine 2 weeks ago and I am super pleased with it so far. I feel like I should be paid by someone to review grind and brew coffee machines because I have owned so many of them over the past 3 or 4 years. And I have gotten to know them well through trial, error, and breakage. Of course I am not being paid for this review, but I am giving one because I think I can help someone else who'e in the same boat. Earlier this year I purchased and reviewed a Krups grind and brew (the newest model) which I liked very much but it died after about 8 months. It did not do well with oily beans and I constantly had to clean it. It also was not great at regulating the strength of the coffee, which has been pretty consistently a factor on all the machines I've owned, including several Cuisinarts. Other machines I've had and reviewed in this category besides past Cuisinarts include Breville, Capresso, Kenmore, and Gourmia. This Cuisinart comes with an auto clean feature and is one reason I was willing to spend more money for it. It has a large air tight hopper which is very convenient. I love that it's 12 cups and not 10, which almost all others are, because I do have company regularly and want to be able to make large quantities. I also greatly appreciate that you can set the hot plate to 4 hours so if I make a large pot I can sip it all morning at the proper temperature without microwaving. I don't know why anyone would buy the thermal carafe over the glass one with hot plate because I have yet to use a thermal carafe that keeps coffee hot even a half hour after brewing. This machine really seems to adjust the grinder properly to set the strength of coffee. It is easy to use. It has the newest technology to optimize the grounds. It is a bit slow, but reasonable for good coffee. The loudness is no different than other machines. Everything fits well together and operates properly. The carafe is easy to pour from. Previously I was not impressed with the Cuisinart design of their older grind and brews, but I am so grateful to have found this machine and highly recommend it!UPDATE 12/15/18: After 2 months I am still impressed and in love with this machine. It never clogs - even with oily beans. This is a first from all those other grind and brews I have owned. It offers a variety of ways to control strength and taste, which I love. It has a large pot that can keep hot for up to 4 hours, which I also love - and it was easy to program (electronics are not my strong suit). It is relatively quiet and brews at a normal speed. It is large but fits under my cabinets on a moveable tray without issue. No complaints at all on this machine, and I am a critical type. I really don't understand the critical reviews at all on this product and seems like user error issues. I have no problems with it working properly, no overflows, and flavor of coffee is awesome. Who cares that you can't program it with ground coffee? It's a GRIND AND BREW machine!

Decent Grind and Brew Coffee Maker for the Price Compared to Other Models
We came from having a Breville Grind and Brew. We loved the machine and the coffee it made but it was super high maintenance and was a small investiment!!! If you did not stay on the once per month cleaning, you were sure to have coffee and grounds pouring everywhere. The heating plate finally died after 9 years. The search began. I wanted something less maintenance intensive, grind and brew capable, 12 cups and good quality. I feel that, with this machine, we got most all of that for way less cost than the Breville we were considering repurchasing. We've had our machine now for 10 months and it's only messed up twice (still not sure why - misplacement of filter, carafe moved during grinding?). The cleaning process is very easy with the self-clean cycle the machine has (another plus over our Breville, which required manual shut off and restart at the middle of the clean cycle). My only complaint for the Cuisinart in this department (cleaning) is getting the extra beans out of the hopper prior to cleaning the grinder and performing the clean cycle. Because the hopper does not come out (it is fixed), you have to do an interesting act of either pouring the beans out into a container by tipping the whole unit over (with beans inevitably bouncing everywhere) or just scooping the beans out with your hands (ew?). I intentionally wait until our hopper is nearly empty before cleaning. Other than that, it's a pretty low maintenance piece of kitchen equipment. My other complaint is just how many grounds end up in the bottom of the pot. If we pour slow and don't slosh the carafe, the grounds just sit in the bottom and we're good (we just can't drink the very last quarter cup - tons of grounds). Lastly, holy crap is this thing LOUD! We've had people over and can't continue conversation over the volume of the grinder. We just halt conversation and restart when the machine is done grinding. The grinder on this thing is what typically wakes us up in the morning over our alarms. :) But even with these downsides, we happily take our VERY delicious end cups of coffee at a lower price and maintenance as compared to our old Breville Grind and Brew.NOTE: I would like Cuisinart to consider a bean pour out chute or removable hopper though to enable easier emptying of hopper for cleaning.

So far superb
Had the 12-cup 800 model for about a week now, and it’s really been great. Huge upgrade from our cheap Mr. Coffee we’ve used for countless years, though I kept that as a backup since other reviewers are saying these break after a while. Seems like you just need to keep things really clean, and cleaning this thing is a piece of cake, really. The coffee is great. We were using a cheap blade grinder before, and getting a good burr grinder can cost almost as much as this whole machine does, so I thought why the heck not. I can’t tell how effective the water filter is, but overall the coffee is definitely better when we’re using tap water (which on its own tastes awful in our city). The programming is simple and intuitive. If you use the strongest brew strength the coffee comes out a little too strong for my taste, but that’s a lot better than not being able to make strong enough coffee! It’s hard to find a great 12 cup coffee maker. There seem to be some great hipster devices that make little baby amounts, but my wife and I need AT LEAST 6 cups each every morning. This thing was the #2 coffee maker in Consumer Reports, so I was confused and disheartened to see so many bad reviews. If it breaks in a couple of months I’ll change my review, but so far it deserves 5 star for the combination of convenience and coffee quality.

Good if you adjust your expectations
I've owned 3 grind and brews now, the Cuisinart DGB-625, DGB-800, and a Krups. All of these machines are useful tools for combined grinding and brewing, but grind and brews are a mechanical challenge to design. If you come into this expecting a magical machine that is just going to work how you want it with no effort, you are going to be disappointed. If you come into this expecting it to be a tool you experiment with and learn how to use to accomplish what you're after, you may find what you're looking for.The DGB-625 was great. It was half the price of the others, easy to use, and made a decent cup of coffee. I don't think the burr grinder is any better than the blade grinder, unless you care about the noise and want something quieter. The grinds from all of these are very coarse, far too coarse for my taste, but I make it work by using more coffee. Both of these machines got the grounds perfectly distributed in the filter basket for me with water hitting all the grounds. The same can't be said for the Krups, which was an absolute failure. The Krups had half the grounds get stuck in the chute and predominantly put the grounds on only one side of the filter. It was unusable and went back quickly. The big benefit of the DGB-800 over the 650 for me is that the 800 is so much easier to clean. I quickly got tired of the steam filling the grinding compartment and needing daily cleaning. If that didn't bother me, I would have stuck with the 650.The 800 lets you adjust strength and number of cups. What you have to understand is these are really just controls for how many beans you want it to use. I might only use 4 cups of water but set it for 8 cups to get more grounds so I can have stronger coffee. Using these machines to get what you want is a learning process, and you may have to tweak what you do over time.I've also seen lots of reviews where they say that the carafes spill when pouring. I have not had this problem. The carafes seem very poor at pouring (carafe, you had 1 job!), but I am able to pour coffee from it without spilling. The Krups actually had a nice carafe that poured the heavily diluted coffee water it brewed perfectly.Overall, the Cuisinarts are good machines. The controls are very easy to understand. If you like coarsely ground coffee beans they are wonderful machines. I really wish they had the option for finely ground coffee, but I believe that would make the already complicated grind and brew machine even less reliable than it already is.Update: the grind on the DGB-800 actually seems a bit more coarse than it was on the 650. I use twice as much coffee as recommended and a very dark roast and it's still very watery and diluted. I'm a fan of very fine almost espresso grinds to get the most flavor. I'm going back to the 650 because it seems to grind it just a little finer. Otherwise, the 800 was better in almost every way.Update: Amazon is hassling me about returning this. This product is really not great and Amazon does not like you returning it. I would buy something else.

Cuisinart DGB800
This has been quite a journey, this is my third coffee maker and I couldn’t be happier with the result! But let me just tell you how I got here:First of all, I’m a Colombian woman who absolutely LOVES a good cup of coffee (I bring my own gourmet coffee from Colombia) so one morning I woke up as usual, got ready for work, went downstairs to make my coffee just to find out my coffee maker was broken!!!!! Don’t panic I had a French press ! Lol so anyways, I started my journey trying to find a good machine that had a built in grinder, so I order a cuisinart DGB550, tried it for a couple of times but I was extremely disappointed: the grinder would only hold 2 cups at a time, on top of that you have to take it a part every time to clean it before making a new cup, but the problem is that all the steam gets in to the grinder and make your beans wet and soggy making it impossible to use it multiple times.I requested a refund and sent it back. Then I found the Cuisinart DGB 800, I ordered it and received a refurbished machine!!! I could not believe it when I opened the box and the machine was dirty, scratched and clearly used before, so guess what? Yes! I had to send it back again and wait 3 more days! I finally got my new baby and I couldn’t be happier! This one holds up to half a pound of coffee beans, it self cleans, the steam never reaches the compartment and you have the option to choose the strength of the coffee and the amount of cups, the reservoir holds 12 cups. The coffee is always hot and fresh and the smell of fresh grounded coffee is just amazing! All I can say is that all the hustle was totally worth it! I super recommend this machine, just make sure you get what you paid for!

disgusting! I hate grounds in my cup of coffee
UPDATED!the longer I have this the worse it gets! Coffee grounds are all over the machine. I have no idea how this is happening. I guess I was spoiled by my first grind and brew maker but if this is the best it can do, you can KEEP IT! I'm not that hard to please but a mouth full of grounds makes me want to PUKE! That's so gross! I can't take anymore of it. I added 3 pictures, the 3rd is the bottom of the pot with what didn't get into my cup. It may not seem like a lot in the picture but there was a ton of grounds in my cup. Look at the other pics, the coffee is all over the place. I'm not sure how it get's so much all over everything like that. When I tried to use the screen that came with the maker, it was like drinking pond scum, I don't use those screen type of filters for that reason. If I have to drink scum, I'll quit drinking coffee! I only hope the next one is better, I see some bad reviews but I read bad reviews on everything so far and how do you get through the bad and find one you're going to really enjoy? So far, my new machine is better, I just need to get it figured out how to get it set properly. Link to a better machine below!http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002EVOVPI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1After having an awesome grind and brew coffee maker for about 10 years, I had to retire it. Sadly the brand was Kenmore and it's no longer available.I looked around and found some reviews on the most popular brands. The first one had the thermal carafe and no hot plate. The coffee was ok but somewhat cool. The 2nd cup was cold! I guess I had to make 12 cups to make it warm.So this is my 2nd grind and brew coffee maker in a week! I'm not that thrilled with this one either. The coffee is a little weak and I have grounds in my coffee just like the other one. The whole basket is just a mess when the brewing is complete. I'm not sure how it dies this except it must load the water too quickly. The worst part is if you don't leave the filter basket in place, it will shut off. It's supposed to be a programmable shut off, but remove that basket, the warming plate shuts off and your next cup is lukewarm at best. I only figured out that I have to leave the basket in, by mistake. So I tried to make my coffee stronger by setting it to grind 8 cups and only add the 6 cups of water. All it did was add more grounds to my coffee and add to the mess. I guess I'll keep this until I find something better. The cost of this maker is very high for the quality of coffee it delivers.I love the coffee with the fresh ground beans! That is the best coffee I've had! All the best coffee in stores are made with fresh ground beans. That is how I like my coffee made now and hope I can find something better in the near future.

Excelente cafetera
¡Me encantó! Tarde un poco en encontrar el punto exacto para mi café porque antes lo molía aparte. Pensaba que igual tenía que poner solo la cantidad que iba a moler pero no, hay que tener el suficiente café para que salga según lo deseado.

Great choice for a coffee maker and grinder in 1
Have used several Cuisinart coffee machine and love the Cuisinart grind and brew options. The top compartment holds several cycles of beans. This one is simpler than the previous model because of the filter is one piece unlike the previous one with a wheel that had to be lined up.Auto timer works well and has a fill line on water tank for convenient filling. Grinds well and fresh coffee beans always tastes bolder than the coffee grounds option (which this machine will do with a button to turn off the grinder option)

Quiet burr and quality brew!
I've always used "burr and brew" coffee makers. This is currently my 4th. I must say, it's definitely the most quiet of the 4, and brews an amazing coffee! A+

Do not buy - More of a coffee grinder than a brewer
Writing this review because when I searched through the reviews before purchasing, I didn’t see the issue we encountered listed. Had to search the internet to discover this was a more common occurrence and want to share so others avoid the trouble we had early in the morning.I was super excited for this machine, as it was priced significantly lower than other machines with built in grinders. The negative reviews said that the coffee could be weak, but we decided to try it out and see if we could troubleshoot that issue at home. At no point did I expect that this machine just straight up wouldn’t work.We did the initial set up where you run water through and that worked fine. Filled the top with beans, set the auto program to brew the next morning, then woke up to discover it hadn’t worked. No problem, maybe we just pressed a button wrong. Then we tried to turn it on to grind and brew some coffee. It ground the coffee, but refused to brew, saying the canister was empty. It wasn’t, so we tried again and again it ground the coffee, but wouldn’t brew at all. It got to the point where the filter was being overfilled because it would grind no problem, but wouldn’t brew. We followed the instructions and everything, but couldn’t get it to work.I searched online and discovered that this issue is more prevalent and the “solution” is to completely wipe down and clean all areas of the machine, which does not make for the easy mornings we were hoping this machine would give us. I also feel that this shouldn’t be happening the first time we use the machine. I know there can always be some initial troubleshooting, but this is absolutely ridiculous and a waste of coffee beans.Lesson learned, it’s priced low for a reason. Get it if you want an oversized grinder but don’t get it if you want a cup of coffee.
