INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER A powerful and persuasive discussion about economics, freedom, and the relationship between the two, from today's brightest economist. In this classic discussion, Milton and Rose Friedman explain how our freedom has been eroded and our affluence undermined through the explosion of laws, regulations, agencies, and spending in Washington. This important analysis reveals what has gone wrong in America in the past and what is necessary for our economic health to flourish. Review: Must read for everyone - It's for you. A timeless Masterpiece in Economic theory.
The famous Nobel Prize winning economist Milton Friedman has championed the cause of free market economics. At a time when a greater part of the world lived in socialist societies, he showed the world the true benefits of economics based on the concept of freedom. He argues and clarifies many misconstrued ideas on regulation and government intervention. His penetrating analysis on various subjects is a very educational read. Amazingly, he addressed the problems and also provided solutions to them. His logic, communication style and ability to convince the reader are spectacular. If you are an economics student, it will be one of the most important books you will ever read. I don’t agree with his philosophy entirely especially about monetary policy, environment and education. However, I give it up to his brilliant mind. It takes courage to be as imaginative open minded as him, to so aggressively push his ideas into governmental change in the United States and Latin American countries such as Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and many others which have been directly or indirectly influenced by his ideas through his students, who are more popularly known as the “Chicago Boys.” It remains a subject of popular debate as to whether such influence has resulted in good or bad of these nations. If one has to compare the two extreme beliefs, it would be Free market theory as against Communism. They are bipolar opposites of each other. It is a thought provoking book and deserves five stars!

Its a marvellous book, cogently arguing the virtues of the free market and how political & personal freedoms are inextricably linked to economic freedoms. Keynesian economics that emerged in the 1930s was made a fetish of by totalitarian & semi-totalitarian regimes. Friedman gave the lie to it so to speak.

O livro apresenta de modo muito didático, analisando cada faceta da economia e do governo, as vantagens do sistema capitalista em contraposição ao socialismo.

Important layman's book that clearly defines how government causes inflation
Government overspending and virtual money printing are the main drivers of inflation. Giving historical examples from the US, Japan, and other countries, Milton Friedman and his wife offer clear and concise explanations of the causes of inflation and the disastrous, long term effects on citizens. Excellent primer for anyone who wants to cut through the often superficial reporting offered in the mainstream media and the disingenuous comments made by politicians.

Free to choose guarantees always the best option for everyone
This book met my goals at a large extent. I’d recommend it to everyone who wants to have an overview about the benefits of free market for whatever the thing. Based on data and experiences, the book shows that free market is, all in all, a better option than regulation or nationalisation of property/activity.
