A step-by-step practical guide for new graduates and nursing students assigned to critical care areas to enable nurses to provide optimal care. It will help nurses to systematically assess their patients, plan individualized care, implement therapeutic modalities, collaborate effectively and evaluate the effectiveness of nursing actions. Review: Good book - Good and useful book to explore the knowledge in icu and casuallty care especially for nurses and the doctors Review: perfect book to ease a new nurse - I chose this book because I was a new graduate nurse working on a cardiac critical care unit and was feeling very overwhelmed! There is so much to learn and I needed some guidance. This book really broke everything down and I am much more confident in my practice because of it!!

Good, but mistakes abound...
This is a good introductory book for anyone trying to familiarize themselves with critical care. However, I noticed that there are some mistakes littered throughout which tends to lower this book's credibility. I caught these mistakes quite easily because they are not nit-picky mistakes, but clear-cut mistakes that any nurse should pick up. It makes me wonder about the stuff that I don't know about in critical care as to whether or not the book is accurate. For example, on page 100, it states that the T-wave form on an EKG is ventricular DEpolarization, then on page 102 it corrects itself by stating properly that it is ventricular REpolarization. For the most part, this is a great introductory book and I will continue to read it, however, for the price of admission, 35 dollars for a small 330 page book, I would expect basic facts to be correct.

Get it!
I was a new RN that got hired in MICU when I bought this. I researched for months trying to look for a good book to have with me at work. The layout of the book is nice and understandable. It has everything from lab values to how to work pumps and cvvhd. I especially love the size. It's pretty small and not very thick. I recommend this book for all the new RN's out there!

It's Okay
This book is alright. It didnt really do much for me. I did a critical care program through the AACN called ECCO, and studied some books to prepare for the CCRN and thats what helped me as a new grad in the ICU.
