Complete Review - The Good And Bad
Ordered this desk which arrived in a "pristine box" a few days later. Delivery was on time and looked surprisingly damage-free. Heavy items made of MDF board tend to ship poorly - drops can shatter pieces, but this looked like it arrived in perfect shape.... looked like it.... I cleared an area big enough to spread the contents out for assembly. There are a LOT of parts and I didn't want to rush through the assembly. **Two hours into the assembly, I was finally ready to set the desk top on the lower frame when I noticed the desktop surface was cracked (on the top side, of course). It looked like it may have been stressed when lifted as it appeared only the laminated finish was cracked. **I decided to continue the assembly and reached another issue - a critical part that was improperly drilled. Yeah, these parts are all supposed to be CNCd - programmed by a computer. Somehow, the program not only drilled the part incorrectly, but passed it when the parts were being placed into the carton for sale/shipping. At that point, I couldn't go any further with the assembly. (I already disassembled the old desk, had the contents scattered around my place and the old desk in pieces in the garage). I went through the instructions and remaining parts to ensure they were all there - and made correctly. THEN I called the Bush Furniture Support Line for help. (Bush doesn't want customers to go back through the seller, they ask you to call their support line instead. This ends up being a GREAT way to trouble-shoot problems much quicker and with less nonsense for the buyer.) David S at Support was very helpful, knew what steps to take to verify the purchase, identify the problems, order the replacement parts, and get them out to me quickly. He said I should allow 5-10 business days for the parts to ship..... Okay. Now my place and desk assembly is in limbo indefinitely. 8 days into the wait for notification from Support, I got a text from FedEx that a package was due to be delivered on "day 10". Pleasant surprise. Of course when the box arrived and looked like it was at the bottom of every truck it rode one, I expected the worst. Surprisingly, the two parts were perfect. I completed assembly of the desk and finally got my place back to presentable condition. Summary, **Original shipping was timely. Can't blame anyone with certainty for the cracked part - the mis-drilled part was on Bush. **Expect to spend three hours putting this desk together. There are a LOT of parts, but the desk is engineered very well - tolerances are excellent and instructions are detailed and clear. **Dimensions are as advertised. The desk is very nice and when properly assembled, VERY sturdy and looks great. The drawer hardware is very good. ***Plan on getting some extra wood glue - the tube that comes with the hardware is a bit too small to do the entire job. I used Titebond with great results. ***IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM, contact Support - the contact info is on a separate sheet AND on the front page of the assembly instructions. The finished product is high quality. I'm not a fan of "engineered wood" or laminated finishes. HOWEVER the quality of this desk is similar to anything you'll get in most furniture stores. You'd have to spend between 5 and 10 times the price to get a similar desk made as well out of solid wood by a furniture builder. I understand things go wrong from time to time. Nothing in life is perfect. Bush has a system in place to "make it right" when things go wrong. That's all most of us can expect and they got "five stars" for "making it right" quickly. Would I do it all again? Yup.

Amazing value, looks great
UPDATE #3 on 4/3/24: BUY THIS DESK. Seriously. If you want a compact, decent-looking desk unit at a reasonable price, this is it. It's still hanging in there, nice and solid. The desk surface is looking a little worse for wear, but that's mostly my fault because I keep forgetting to set my water bottle on a coaster. I hit the peeling spots every now and again with a black permanent marker just to camouflage the spots. All the connections are still solid, the keyboard tray still slides fine. At this rate, I'll retire before the desk does! UPDATE #2 on 7/15/19: And here I am yet one more time. It's now 2019 and the desk is six years old. I've moved AGAIN since the last update. Still love it. Still looks great, as sturdy as the day it was assembled despite two moves. I can't say enough good about this desk. Seriously. Obviously, since I am still reviewing and recommending it. =) UPDATE 12/15/16: Here I am, three+ years later and still deliriously happy with the desk. I work at home full-time, so the desk takes a lot of use. It's just as sturdy and solid as it was the day it was first assembled. A little dustier and with a few minor water spots, but I am still very, very happy with it. I can't express how impressed I am with this desk. I recently moved into a new home and my old Steelcase desk was too big and too heavy to move. I wanted something a bit more compact and frankly, that looked nicer. My requirements were fairly simple - at least one drawer, a hutch, and a keyboard tray. After looking at many desks online and reading reviews, I selected this one. The finish was a bit darker than I had wanted, but otherwise it sounded fine. I admit that my expectations were pretty low. I'd purchased computer desks before and was sadly disappointed by the crappy quality of the packaging and the components themselves. Well boy howdy, NOT THIS DESK. It arrived in a flat pack. I have NO idea how the delivery person got the package from the truck to my porch alone, because it's heeeeeavy. My husband and teen son had to open the box and get the pieces upstairs a few at a time. One corner of the box was a bit crushed, so I was expecting a bit of internal damage, but was pleasantly surprised to find that each piece was fitted carefully and protected by foam. Every single piece was perfect. Not a single scratch anywhere. The next step was to get organized and lay all the pieces out. Each piece was clearly marked by a part number on an easy-removable sticker. The screws and bolts were separated into individual bags and marked with the part numbers. They even thoughtfully provide a little tube of wood glue (which I didn't end up using, favoring hubby's heavy-duty wood glue instead). The directions were clearly written and illustrated. And unbelievably, every single piece lined up perfectly. I assembled the desk myself over a period of two days, in a total of about six hours. I needed some help to move the desk and hutch (separately) into place and attach them, but that was about it. I've been using the desk for about two weeks now and couldn't be happier. It's nice and sturdy, and looks great. It's a good combination of style and function that works well in my home office. My only complaint, if I had to make one, is that the manufacturer doesn't offer this desk in another color. The dark wood finish (not quite black, but the next closest thing) is a dust magnet. i just keep a microfiber cloth in the drawer and give it a quick dust every couple of days. All in all, a great product. I am VERY happy with it all around. Packaging, looks, assembly, and function. All for a very reasonable price.

Don't buy into the hysterical reviews. This thing is wonderful.
So bottom line up front: 1. Obviously for the price this is not hardwood furniture so I'm not sure what people were expecting 2. Lengthy instructions and lots of effort required to build are GOOD things when it comes to this type of furniture 3. This thing looks and feels like a lot more than $200 The reasons why I docked a star: 1. The box arrived so beat up I almost didn't want to open it. The pieces were easily visible through large holes in the box (see pictures) and I thought some of the slimmer pieces may have been missing just looking at it. 2. There was 2 holes that were not drilled in one of the pieces that needed to be there. I came to the conclusion that there was enough support without it (one of the maybe 6 supports for the shelf bottom of the cabinet) and opted out of drilling it myself and risking damaging the material. So here's the overall review. I thought looking at the box that this thing would be scuffed up and dented but it was not. The packaging could be better but the weight of the box obviously contributed to the handling. It is insanely heavy! When I finally got all the pieces out and put aside, I was expecting at least a 5 hour build after reading the reviews. The hardware is top notch with the exception of the circle locks which are made of the typical pot metal and prone to stripping; these things don't need to be wrenched on so be easy on them and it should be ok. You can tell the quality of the hardware is top notch just by looking at the detail of how it is packaged and labeled. I've built tons of this type of furniture, and usually they use maybe 3 types of screws and make it work for every purpose; not this piece. There were maybe 12 different bags, and they even bagged an individual foam sticker as a bumpguard for the cabinet door. The instructions are not difficult to read at all, and as long as you go sparingly on the glue you will have plenty. If you run out, just use Elmer's glue. It works just the same as wood glue (the stuff that comes with this kit is just Elmer's glue though). The piece is very sturdy and as you can see I've loaded it up way beyond the advised amount and while there is a very slight bow under the weight it is holding up great. I plan on getting a few dowels to put in front of the 3 slats on the bottom tier to help with the extra weight but it almost seems like it won't need it. Beware the hysterical reviews by people that don't have the patience or appropriate expectations for this product; it's great. Also, it took me 6 hours to build (by myself) with just a screwdriver and hammer-- I also stopped to cook some steaks and kale, eat dinner, and took a few breaks. Probably could have done it in 3 had I not made the meal shown. Happy building.

Good desk for the price
This is a nice desk for the price. It is fairly sturdy and looks good where I have it. The assembly instructions are clear. It took me 5 hours to put it together by myself. It recommends that you do not use power tools to put it together, and I'll vouch for that, as my power screwdriver wasn't actually powerful enough to get the screws in all the way (could very well be the batteries, but I didn't bother replacing them to find out). There are a lot of screws involved in the assembly! The surface can scratch relatively easily, as I discovered putting the hutch on (this was the one part I wish I had someone helping me, just to avoid that). It is heavy, but I was able to move it on carpet by myself. The drawer is small, but holds stationary and stamps, which is what I wanted to put there, and the door compartment could hold a computer, but comes with a warning that you have to leave it open with a computer running because it does not have adequate ventilation. I use a laptop on top of the desk, so that part doesn't bother me, but the desk is a bit high to use a laptop on top of the desk comfortably and the keyboard tray is too low to see the screen comfortably if I use it there, so I've been trying out different chairs to see which I like best, since I use the desk to work from home once or twice per week. Overall, I think it's a good value and I'm quite pleased with the purchase.

Best desk I’ve had!
I needed a larger desk to work on my computer and other things that required more space than my previous desk. This is perfect! I was afraid the top shelving would not accommodate music books, since they are taller than regular books, but they fit just fine. I’m a pretty handy woman, and it took me three hours to put together by myself (I used just a manual screwdriver). All the holes lined up perfectly. The only thing wrong with the assembly is that two dowels were missing—I had to cut off a small wooden flag post into two pieces to replace the dowels, since they were necessary to complete the upper shelving, but thankfully I had that on hand and could finish without trouble. The desk looks beautiful, and I love the metal hardware. I definitely recommend this desk!!

Beautiful desk that's tedious to build, but has wonderful customer service
This desk is absolutely beautiful and I'm glad I bought it. It's exactly what I needed and looks really beautiful all set up. Assembly for this desk, while not difficult, is tedious. You need to set out at least 4 hours to get this thing completely set up, especially if you're doing it alone (not recommended as you'll definitely need two sets of hands for some steps). The instructions were easy to understand and had numbered parts for everything which was extremely important and helpful. Packaging for this item was a bit lacking. When it arrived, the main desktop was broken in half likely due to insufficient padding. The box it arrived in was damaged, especially the edges. I had to call customer service in order to get a replacement for the main desktop piece. Customer service was amazing. I spoke with two representatives at two different occasions and they were both extremely friendly and cooperative. Unfortunately, I did not get their names at the time as I did not think to. When the replacement piece came some times later, it was perfectly intact with much more padding than the original shipment. Overall, I love this desk and would definitely buy another piece of furniture from this company if I ever needed too. Their representatives were kind and gave me an even better impression of the company. Just remember that building can be tedious, but the results are beautiful!

It is probably the worst exeprience I had with Amazon purchase
I had awful experience with this product. First of all, it has arrived in a condition as if it was dropped from the plain. Boz, packaging material inside were distroyed and looked like a messy mixture of damaged parts and foam plast split into small white balls sticking to everything. As only a few parts were damaged and I was ready to accept it I started assmbling it, and it was anothe disappointment. Even if you manage to put together a thing consisting of dosens of small and big parts, it will fall apart even before you finish assmbling due to very poor material quality. The material is so friable that the screws just fall out ot it together with a piece of "wood". So it just fell apart and I conacted the producer for a return. Never heard back for them, so had to appeal to Amazon. The guy in amazon said (!) I should return it in original package, otherwise it will not work. After 15 min of argument that the original package was destroyed in the process of delivery we finally agreed that they will send the company to pack it and pick it up (thank you, Amazon). Awful, awuful experience.

It was Easy to Build
We bought this desk for my husband’s computer. It fits perfectly into the corner. I love the look. It is larger than the previous desk that was there but it actually makes the room look larger. The instructions that came with it made it very easy to put together. It is a two person build though so be aware of that.
