Short Stories in German for Beginners

This has been very helpful for me as I learn German. It feels natural to work through, like the books you’d read for class growing up. I was surprised following the instruction on the use of this book lead to me catching on even quicker. A great learning tool, plus the stories are neat! So it’s entertaining and keeps your attention

This has been an excellent adjunct for learning German. I am multilingual and just starting to learn German formally. I'm working from a German grammar book, using Duolingo, and listening to videos. This book has added substantially to my understanding of actual, everyday German vocabulary and word usage. The stories are simple, and the sentence structure starts out very easy, using the present tense. The stories cover a lot of cultural ground, so you get a broad variety of topics that allow you to learn new words in a very easy, natural way, with vocabulary lists at the end of each chapter. I found I needed to look up a lot more words than the vocabulary lists included, but that's easy enough to do on the internet these days. I also had to look up the gender of a lot of the nouns on the lists, since that was not included (dudes...it should be easy enough to add a "m", "f" or "n" at the end of each noun on a list, don't you think? Other language books manage to do that), but again easy enough to do on my own. Overall, I recommend this book for German language learning and German language practice.

The series of short stories is varied in setting and genre. It was good to read and practice my German again - though I still needed to read most stories with a dictionary on the side for a few words. I was happy with the book for the language I learned, the stories and plots were a secondary feature and were generally straightforward settings for expanding knowledge of the language.

Just started learning german and this book is really neat! I don’t understand most of the words (haha) but I got the gist of the first chapter, I look forward to learning more so I can read the stories!

I enjoy reading this book and it helps expand my vocabulary but some basic German language is required to read and understand it. This won’t help teach you German but can help improve your skills.

The stories in this book are really varied, not boring at all. They are quite short and you see your progress. If you have an e-book, it will definitely help you in understanding new vocabulary, since you won't have to spend time manually translating the text. I will definitely re-read German Stories for Beginners it in a few months and I'm going to buy the next Intermediate edition. In conclusion, I'd recommend the Beginner edition of this book to people whose German is between A2 and B1. Good luck and enjoy reading!

I've been using Duolingo for years and recently finished the German course. Someone told me once that a great way to keep up on language skills was to get children's books in that language and that has proven to be beneficial. I saw this book though and decided to give it a shot. Glad I did. These books are a great way to not only extend but to enhance my learning as there are words in here that I didn't learn via Duolingo and it has a glossary for any word in bold. I loved this book so much that I started getting them in the other languages that I am currently learning. I definitely recommend.

Once you get over the fear of not having to know/understand EVERY German word on the page, you relax and discover that you can figure out a lot of the entertaining little short stories. I have taken a few German classes in the past and still do Duolingo German, but at first this book stymied me. I don't know how a person who knows nothing about Germanic languages would fair with this book (and it's says it's a Beginner Level), but I am enjoying it. Each story is 3-4 pages long, with some words emboldened. Those words are in a small glossary at the back of each story. Also, at the end of each short story is a 5 question multiple-choice quiz. The answers to the quizzes are way in the back of the book. There is also a somewhat more extensive Glossary in the back of the book. For me, at my level, I appreciate learning the simple past tense of verbs, by reading! And the stories are entertaining! I mostly learned only past participles in German class. I purchased the French and Danish books, too. I have also taken some French in my past, decades ago, so I will probably do okay deciphering the French stories. I have never taken Danish, but it being somewhat Germanic, will muddle through that, hopefully. I love languages, so I am driven! I do my family's genealogy and am of German and Danish and Swiss descent, so these books are fun!

Storie interessanti ed avvincenti, anche se in alcuni punti sembrano mal costruite. Comunque è un ottimo prodotto per chi, conoscendo abbastanza la grammatica, vuole prendere maggiore confidenza con la lingua tedesca e aumentare il proprio vocabulary. Ho trovato anche molto pratica la suddivisione di ogni storia in 3 brevi capitoli così da affrontarle in maniera più leggera (stiamo pur sempre parlando di una lingua ostica come il tedesco, eh!)

A really well prepared book for New German learners. Stories are not boring at all. Grammer and vocabulary are extremely well designed. I bought it for my kindle. For the ones who can read on a Kindle, I would highly recommend because it is so practicle to check vocabulary by the integrated underlined word system. Besides, if you follow " the rules for reading" which the Author's advice for reading this book, I am sure that someone can enjoy it more than he expected.

I was expecting interesting stories to learn German and the culture - I got childish stories about pirates, future and superhero water.

I like this a lot! I read the stories on Kindle and listen to them on Audible. The speaking is clear, the vocabulary varied, and stories are amusing. At the end of each story is an outline of what happened and some questions. An enjoyable way to improve your German!
