Does this lens benefit from a lens hood, and which hoods fit this lens?

This lens come with a long, narrow hood that is specially designed for this lens. It is also designed so that if you reverse it, you can keep it on the lens for storage and it won't add any length as it will be on the barrel. It's a good idea to use a hood in sunlight or in a situation where there are lights coming from different directions.

Is this compatible with the Blackmagic pocket cinema camera

Once again, the Blackmagic camera should work. Another responder indicated that it won't focus or operate the iris because it doesn't make electrical connections between the lens and the camera. The Blackmagic web site says, "Blackbagic Pocket Cinema Camera features an active MFT lend mount and high resolution 3.5" LCD." The reference to "active lens mount" is with respect to the active electrical connections and ability to focus and operate the iris.

for food, landscape and milkyway/low light is this a better choice than the 25mm f1.4?

While this is one of the best run and gun lenses IMO for the GH4 or GH5, I would not recommend it for landscape, night or low light. I would recommend either the Panasonic 15mm 1.7 Leica. I absolutely love that lens. Super Sharp, Fast AF, and just makes me want to shoot. Another option would be the Olympus M.Zuiko 17mm f/1.8.

Any thoughts on this as a portrait/interview lens at 35mm?

It's a very nice lens, very sharp. you can use it for portrait but it's more of a General Purpose lens (@35 the background is not blurry enough - Bokeh), if your looking for a portrait lens then go for Olympus M. Zuiko Digital ED 45mm f/1.8 or the more expensive Olympus ED 75mm f/1.8.

Incredible Lens, great price.

Amazing Lens, I purchased this along side my GH4.It is the only lens I own currently, but it does an amazing job.For video, this lens is a monster, it can handle everything. Shooting beautiful portraiture, wide actions shots etc...Even when I purchase a purchase a dedicated prime portrait lens, the versatility of this lens makes it great for grab and go everyday shooting.

Panasonic Lumix 12-35

I bought this lens for use on my OMD-EM5 as a walkabout lens. At present it is the only micro four thirds high grade zoom lens in this category. Although quite pricy, the lens is worth it. Construction and ergonomics are excellent and the lens is sharp throughout the range. While I would have liked a bit more range at the long end, the constant f2.8 provides great versatility for low light photograhy. I have not tested the lens with respect to video as I am primarily a still photo shooter. I am very satified with the result achieved thus far. I will be using it a lot for travel photography and prefer zoom lenses. I want to carry as few lenses as possible and reduce the number of times I need to change lenses. When travelling, changing lenses is in any event often not possible due to time and location constraints and the fact that by the time the lenses are changed the best shot of the subject matter has passed. Overall I am very pleased and have given it a top rating.

Great lens

Fantastic lens. Very sharp, even wide open. Lightweight yet solidly built. Haven't tried the 'rainproofing" yet, but it's good to know that it has been build to withstand a bit of water.
