Ba Nam Cali Mooncakes (Durian, 2 Yolk)

OK, so these are hard to rate. I gave it 5 for a variety of reasons. These are not my favorite item. I've tried to eat Durian in the past and as a Westerner, it was dang near impossible to get past the natural gas leak smell. My hands refused to let me put the fruit in my mouth. Sorry if you're from one of those cultures that enjoy Durian, it's just not my thing. I ordered these to try out some mooncakes (I never had one before and I ordered a couple different types for us all to try) and to give Durian a second chance. It still smells like a gas leak to me. Still, I managed to get it into my mouth this time and I found the flavor to be sweet. For me, the flavor is sweet fruit filling and cake on the front of the tongue and the odor of gas leak at the back of the mouth. The cake was moist, the dough tasted fine, and it was good in all respects. The cakes came packaged in cellophane in a protective basket inside a box, so they were well-preserved. So 5 stars for all that-it's not the Durian's fault that I'm not it's greatest fan. I like the warning on the box that advises Westerners to try a different flavor if they've never eaten Durian. That gave us all a laugh. We had a lot left over, so one cake went to school with my kid, who will probably get the place evacuated for a gas leak, and I took one to work as a gift/torture for my coworkers to try. I probably won't try this particular flavor again, but I'll try mooncakes again.

I don’t quite get the bad reviews. The quality and the taste just like durian paste mooncake. The price is reasonable compared to other brands. Not unless you want the real durian fruit taste then I suggest buying the real fruit instead. This is a mooncake you can’t expect too much on the taste.

Very disappointed! The taste of durian wasn’t enough inside for the cost of $59; the taste doesn't live up to the price of the Durian mooncakes as claimed as compared to another brand with more reasonable price.

Delicious but the box i received only had 3 cakes not 4. Can't return food.

I like them. Eating like snack.

Trying Durian fruit was on my "Bucket List" and this looked like a great way to do so. Glad I did, the flavor was very pleasant and sweet. I prefer the Ba Nam Cali Mooncakes without the Egg Yolk. I purchase both, with and without Yolk.
