Excellent rust remover that really works
I’m genuinely impressed with this product. It removed rust stains quickly and effectively without damaging the metal surface. Very easy to use, and the results were visible almost immediately. I tried a few other products before, but this one worked far better. A little goes a long way as well, so the bottle should last quite a while. Highly recommended for anyone dealing with stubborn rust stains around the home or workshop.

Works really well
Used on a rusty old radiator and it worked a treat. I used a paintbrush to apply it neat and kept checking it. once all the rust was wiping off easily I cleaned it with a wet cloth and polished it with a dry cloth. Good as new.

Wrought Iron mill scale.
I was scepticle but the feed back for rust removal was fairly positive. My requirement was to descale hot rolled mild steel flat bar brackets as a prep for priming and painting. Mill scale can easily be removed abrasively, grit blasting or rotary disc if you dont mind the resultant surface finish and cost. My method was by full immersion in an approximate 25% HG to water mix in a shallow polythen lined bath. That said, I can't vouch for painting the product on surfaces neat but I wouldnt have done it that way. The product is acidic so the usual PPE, gloves, skin and eye protection. The product does not fume or give off acidic smells. I allowed 24 hours for immersion. The solution did work and I washed the brackets down with a neutralising solution of Sodium Carbonate ( Soda Crystals ). Surface finish was back to original grey steel. The dissolved mill scale washes off as black smut. Mill scale removal is in excess of 99%. I have put the brackets back in the solution for another 24 hours to remove the odd stubborn spots caused by the laser profiling but overall they would do after 24 hours. The steel does not become etched and is not discolored by the solution. For me, 500ml for what is a small project has worked perfectly but derusting or descaling anything of size I would recommend grit ( sand ) blasting. I have seen the end result and once red oxide primed is a perfect method for gates railings, car parts, cast iron bench ends and the like. Hope this is a proper review for you.

I'm not sure it worked or not!?!?
I have only tried it on one item and that was a 60 year old boy-scout knife, still sharp and in frequent use, that had become discoloured and rust-pitted in places. I submerged the knife in the solution for the specified period but nothing much happened. I agitated the liquid and then doubled the period, agitated it frequently and doubled it again - i.e. about 7 times the specified period. When I eventually removed the knife, it had a rather nice, even, dark grey finish rather like passivated screws (see photo). Unfortunately, that was not what I wanted so I set to with a wire brush and eventually got rid of the grey coating. I ended up with a rust-free, shiny blade with plenty of pits and irregularities where there had been rust - keep in mind this is 60 years old. So..... did it work or not? I really have no idea. I got the result I wanted by wire-brushing it. Maybe I could have missed out the dipping stage and saved some money.

Rust stain removal on Indian sandstone.
I used this neat on a few rust spots that had stained areas of my unsealed Indian sandstone patio over a few years. Using a short and stubby old 1" paintbrush I applied a thick coat and left it to " cook " for a couple of hours. I repeated this process 3-4 times over the course of the day. After about 6 hours in total I applied a final thinner coat to rejuvenate the now sticky film of rust remover. A quick agitation with a wire brush and then scrubbed the areas with copeous amounts of lukewarm water/detergent. 95% of all the stains had gone but I did have to re apply to a couple of heavily stained areas before they too vanished. .. Time consuming, yes but worth the effort before sealing them in forever with sealer. Please note. This is acid based and not suitable for calciferous stone surfaces. 500ml bottle went a long way and I still have about 50% left for other projects. Very good value and with patience a very effective product to use on stubborn rust staining.

HG 176050106 Rust Remover
Very easy to use but you must wear gloves as this is strong stuff. The smell is abit strong but it goes away after sometime if your using this indoors like I did. Just remove most of the loose rust with a wire brush first then I used the solution with a soft brush diluted with water at first on 5 radiators with different degrees of rust on the sides and back of them due to moisture from sweating windows in the winter and general moisture(I dont have double glazing). It works pretty quickly turning most of the rust black within 15mins. I left the solution on overnight and touched up some areas with undiluted solution the next day. If you get any on your skin rinse off immediately as you will feel a slight ting. I primed my radiators and painted all of them no problems. Very good for indoor rust issues or to use for most items that need rust removal.

Goes a long way
Very strong and concentrated product. 1:5 with water strips off galvanising from bolts, as I found out by mistake.
