Master Lock 265D Door Security Bar, Adjustable from 27-1/2 in. to 42 in., White

We bought this security bar for our daughter. For her first apartment. It has already paid for it's self in peace of mind and it did it's job. The bar was in place but she forgot to lock her door. A drunk neighbor came home to the wrong apartment and started to push on her door and the security bar held in place. He pushed on the door for over 5 mins until police arrived. Thank you Master Lock for helping protecting the only thing that matters to me, MY DAUGHTER!!!

I recently moved into a new apartment. And found the deadbolt to be insufficient. I went to the hardware store looking for something to fortify the door. I ended up purchasing this product and was initially unimpressed with its design. The height is adjustable based on the doorknob height. I found that after placing this snug under door as instructions indicate I pushed from the other side and the device quickly buckled. I simply replaced the pin from the top piece with a sturdy steel bolt and put the pin at the desired height. I tried to push my way in again and it was much stronger and and easy mod. I also placed the foot of the stopper about 12 inches from the base of the door instead of the recommended 15-18 inches. The reason I did this was you want to create a 90 degree angle when looking for strength and stability. I also added a inexpensive door alarm for the base of the door that is a secondary deterrent but also allows me to know the door has been breached and when to grab Mr. 12 gauge.

I'm convinced this just prevented a break-in at my home last week. Someone tried to kick in our back door, but they couldn't, with this and the bolt lock properly engaged. The right angle and floor type are important, I believe. My husband left door unlocked, and tried to bust the door open with his shoulder, but it wouldn't move. He's 259lbs and strong, so we felt like it was doing its job. Very happy we had this when the thief came around looking for an easy target. Photo shows the footprint.

I don't always leave reviews, but I have to say right here that this item gets 5 stars and I'd really like to give them 100 stars! Ask yourself how much is your life worth or that of your friends and family? This is a small price to pay to save a life and that is exactly what this did for me and a fellow neighbor. She was being stabbed by her ex husband and screaming for her life, right in front of her 8 year old son. I am an RN and ran into "Code Mode" to save her life and her son. We all ran upstairs to my apt and I locked all the locks, deadbolt and then put this under my door knob. He followed us to my apt and began trying to bang the door down! I was on with 911 and she was bleeding and this gave us the precious minutes for me to hold pressure, call 911 and get the police and ambulance to us in time to save our lives. He ended up in jail and my neighbor, her son and myself have this item to thank for our Memorial Day rescue. Thank you so much Master Lock! I will be writing the company headquarters to thank them personally and I would highly recommend this investment for yourself and a gift to others. You never know if you will need it to save your life.

When I moved to NYC alone and broke twenty years ago I brought this with me. It was always jammed on my door when I felt vulnerable and alone.However, I have something more important to tell. I moved elsewhere and needed to return to NYC one cold February. I stayed at the Z in Queens which had a lot of empty rooms that time of year. I took this with me. Being 105 pds and 5"3" I felt safe and secure with it jammed on the door. I woke up at 3:00 a.m to watch in horror as someone tried very hard to get in my room. However, it was impossible due to the lock. I called security and they stated " they saw no one in the lobby". If it wasn't for this lock I'm positive I would have had a different story to tell or I wouldn't be here to tell it.

Works great! Adjust the height according to the directions and jam it in to place. Accidentally kept my roommate out until I heard him struggling. The rubber foot doesn't slide across the entry way linoleum, so once I put it in place, it stays. But it's really easy to remove from the inside, so if there were a fire and I needed to get out quick, it wouldn't be a problem. Very satisfied with my purchase. Solid and well built brace for your door. Helps prevent door push-ins. But please remember, your door is only as good as it's weakest point. Along WITH this security bar, you should replace the tiny, short screws that come with your deadbolt with longer 3-4 inch screws, so they screw into the frame surrounding the door.... not a bad idea to replace at least one screw in each of the door hinges with extra long screws as well. This makes it harder to kick a door in - add this security bar to it, and you should have more security. One last thing... many doors have glass, and builders put thumb-turn locks on the inside. All someone has to do then, is break the glass, reach in, and turn the lock and open your door. Replacing that thumb turn lock with one that requires a key on the outside AND the inside, makes it impossible to do this... but... you need to keep the key close by, as if there's a fire or other emergency you will need to be able to unlock that door ASAP.

The unit has a little metal push-pin that, when pushed in, allows the bar's height to be adjusted. This feature is what ultimately fails because when someone pushes on the door the push-pin falls out of the hole causing the bar to collapse rendering the device utterly useless. How did I find this out? I was asleep one morning with the bar securely fastened on my door. Someone who had a key opened my door, pushed in, and the bar failed. I could not believe it. Had they been an intruder, and not a friend, I would have been in trouble. As it has been over 30 days I cannot return the product which is very frustrating, but hopefully I can caution someone else from losing their money... or worse.

It appears capable of preventing a forced entry, or at least slowing a forced entry. It adjusts easily to any of many different lengths, so finding an effective length seems...

The security bar is alright for the patio door but there is nothing to pull it up after placing it in the track.

If you don't have very strong door frame don't buy this. You'll just waist your money. My door can be easily open with this lock. Security level 01.….

This is the only security bar I could find that would work with a sliding patio door that has a dog/cat door insert.
