I went with the MacBook Air in Midnight, M4 chip, with a 512 GB SSD and 24 GB Unified Memory, and a 15” screen. I was on the fence for a long time between this and the Pro - eventually, having used several online “what will you use it for” tools and weighing my own experience with an M1 iMac with only 16 GB of RAM, I realised the Pro was over-spec for my use. The Air is plenty powerful enough unless you’re seriously into video editing, high end photo editing, that kind of thing. First impressions: this thing is beautiful, especially in Midnight (=black). It’s light, but feels meaty enough to carry around without worrying you’ll break it. The screen is gorgeous - unbelievably clear. The backlit keyboard is responsive and a joy to type on. I use the MacBook Air for streaming, browsing, light video and photo editing, productivity apps like MS Office and I write using Scrivener. This thing is blisteringly quick, even with multiple apps working simultaneously. No issues at all. Battery life is pretty much as advertised, and heat dissipation is the best I’ve had on a laptop. No burning knees! I have a fairly extensive Apple / Mac setup at home, so the Mac ecosystem really works for me. With Tahoe and the onboard power of the Air, the cross-device features (including the new iPhone mirroring tool) help make everyday tasks seamless. Summary: love it! Pleased I saved myself £1k by going Air and not Pro. Only advice is, if you’re trading in an old device, shop around online! Trade offers vary so much - I was offered from <£200 to £495.

Great laptop. Smooth, well priced and does whatever you need really. I'm not a power user by any means but I love tech and I decided to go for this. I have had an M2 Macbook Air which honestly was great but I wanted a bigger screen. This is just more expansive and things just don't feel crammed. I also have found a big difference with the speakers compared to the 13 inch models. Will they be as good as the pro? No. But this isn't a Pro and it's cheaper than one. Everything will have some compromises and this is just one of them! I do wish this had a higher refresh rate for smoother scrolling (and I can definitely notice a difference), but it's honestly a beautiful screen. The colours pop and it's vibrant and clear. For videos, and reading, it's absolutely perfect. I did get a great deal on this, using Amazon Resale. I bought a like new version and was able to add AppleCare+ to it whilst getting a good deal. (For reference there were 10 days left to do that in case it helps). All in all, excellent laptop. It's not heavy, the battery is awesome, the screen is great, and it does EVERYTHING you will ever need to.

I'm a software engineer and I have never owned a Mac before. I was apprehensive about spending so much on a personal laptop, but I'm sure glad I did. I must say this is probably the best laptop I have ever owned. It's fast, reliable, quiet and just works. Plus, the battery lasts forever! In the past I'd always bought mid range laptops and installed Linux on them, but ive got fed up with messing around with libraries all the time for upgrades and things just breaking or being unstable. Using a Mac I still have the UNIX based OS so is very similar to Linux, but everything just works and is nicely polished. I have definitely been converted!
