Bertucci A-2SEL Super Illuminated Watch

This watch has a bright easy to read face. I got it for my dad who is getting along in years and does not have the best night vision but wanted an analog watch. This light up face delivers! He had also remarked several times how comfortable the watch is with the buttons being at the 2 and 4 o’clock positions.

I have another Bertucci watch I’ve had for 8 years and I love it. It is very durable and keeps perfect time. I bought the sel for the light up function but did not work very well. It was dim and weak. Great watches but the light up feature is not good.

I really like the look of this watch and the illumination is excellent. It’s heavy and feels well made.

This is a really good-looking watch! Lives up to the renders and online photos. The band sizing is pretty ideal for my 7" wrist. The watch itself looks really nice on my wrist, but would probably fit a 7.25" to 7.75" wrist best. That said, in multiple places in this item's Amazon page, it is claimed to have a screw-down crown. That was a big part of the reason that I got it. However, it definitely does not. It is absolutely a push-pull crown. Really really disappointing for a so-called "field watch". Push-pull in the field was only a thing up until maybe the 1960s. This may be a dealbreaker, and I may wind up returning this watch, we'll see. The lume is mediocre. You've seen worse, and you've definitely seen better. Every dive style watch, let alone ISO 6425 Diver's, has better to much better lume. The EL backlight though is REALLY good! Very pleasing color, though the hardcore may argue that it should be dim red instead of bright blue so as to not mess up your night vision too much. And they'd have a point, but this isn't a hardcore watch so is that a fair gripe? Since I'd never use this watch in demanding low-light situations, I like the backlight, but it is a little too bright. Bottom line: If you don't mind a push-pull crown, go for it. Otherwise, think hard before buying this one...

Let me say right from the start; if you have perfect close-up vision, ignore this review and assume that this watch is worthy of 5 stars. It really is a nicely designed and built timepiece for the money! However, if (like me) you have difficulty in focusing at items within arms length and need a watch with a clear display, this might not be 'the one' - at least, not indoors or in lowish light conditions. I bought this watch because I needed a watch that I could read at night when not wearing reading glasses. For that purpose, it scores a perfect 10, as the backlit display is bright and crisp (if a little hard on battery drain). For me, the problem lies with the black and white hands, which don't stand out very well against the grey(ish) dial. The bezel is tall and can cast a shadow across the face of the watch too, which in turn makes it harder to see the hands. Also, the large amount of black text all over the dial makes it even harder to determine where the hour hand is. I can read it in daylight, or in the pitch black (with the EL function), but not so well in conditions that are in between :-( . Again, if you have good eyesight, this won't matter a jot :-) . Now, onto the positives. The watch is well engineered, comfortable to wear (if a little tall, perhaps) and is good value for money (IMHO) in spite of the fact that we have to pay a lot for delivery and taxes when we import them to the UK. I was very lucky with shipping. I took three working days from placing the order to receiving the watch (although I did pay for the faster, DHL shipping option). Bertucci watches, in my opinion, produce some really interesting watch designs that are built to a clear ethos of 'form follows function'. If you want something a bit more 'individual' than (for instance) a Seiko military watch, an MWC copy of a CWC field watch or even something that does what a Timex Indiglo watch does (only much better), then this could well be the watch for you.
