I had been suffering from a head cold for a very long time. I was recommended I try this root. As soon as I got it, I took a few small bits and chewed them and left them between my gums and cheek. These roots appear to have been cleansed and dried, yet I did have a small amount of dirt/grit with the first experience. It is a root afterall, so... This root is fairly aromatic, and it helped loosen the gunk in my nasal cavities. Made my mouth numb, which was a fun effect. Later I made a tea out of a few broken bits of the root. Had soft stool that night, and diarrhea next morning, so it's great for constipation. Tasted okay with some slight bitterness (kind of like strong fennel or anise mixed with spicy celery), but really didn't do much overall for my cold, more for a few symptoms. It's time I go to the doctor and get some antibiotics...

I use this in a tea concoction with regular hot tea, honey,sugar and some osha root and let it steep in the tea for a while and it has worked wonders for me when I had colds, and even my pneumonia was helped with it enough that the doctor and their staff couldn't believe I was getting around as well as I was. Let me add it didn't get rid of my pneumonia just made it so it was not nearly as uncomfortable as before I started making multiple batches of tea with Osha root in it.

I love Osha root, whether using it ceremonially or in a medicinal preparation. This huge root smells very strong!

Glad to find this here! I learned years ago that sucking on a piece of osha root can relieve mild wheezing, before it becomes necessary to use my inhaler. If you are interested, and can ask an herbalist, you may find this a good one to try for respiratory support. Be aware that osha root is pungent, and a little goes a long way!
