The "L" differs from the "N"
The difference is that the L series MOSFET's gate opens much "wider" than the "N", staring above 5 volts Vgs. Think of it as a "turbo". At Vgs 7-9 V, it can pass a lot more current Vds (on) and that's a blessing for my electric-control application! A beauty!

It works, but no visible marking on the chip.
The chip functions electrically as it should. However, the user must perform a test with a VOM to determine its orientation. There is none of the usual usual indentation, dot or textual marking to show which way to place the chip on a pc board or socket. That is an annoying characteristic, but not a reason to avoid using it for a development.
