What's Eating Gilbert Grape

I was so excited to show this movie to my best friend. He had never seen it before and that's a hard thing to find. He really enjoyed it and I loved seeing it again. It's a beautiful timeless movie and a must see. Absolutely timeless, you wouldn't even know it was released in 1993 without the baby faces of the huge stars that are in it. It's a time warp that helps you realize why most of them became huge stars.

Just a great movie. Happy to have been able to find it on DVD since it wasnt as easy as I thought it would be to find. Arrived in perfect condition.

Was a favorite of mine growing up and it’s a favorite of my 12 year old as well. I think this may have been her favorite birthday gift!

タイタニックしか知らなかったディカプリオ。 あまり好きな俳優ではなかったが、この映画を観て衝撃を受けた。それはこの映画を撮ったとき、かれはまだ１８歳（？）。あまりにも素晴らしい演技力に見終わったとき呆然とした。勿論他の主演者もどなたも演技派揃い。 しかしディカプリオ演じる知能障害者アーニー・グレイプの無邪気な純真さを見たとき、 ひょっとしてこれを演じてるデイカプリオは天使ではないかと思ったくらい。 実際、アーニー・グレイプイは天使なのだ。 レオナルド・デイカプリオは驚くべき俳優だと、遅まきながら気づいた。 勿論ジョニー・デップの虚ろな、しかしながら透き通った表情も訴えるものがある。 弟アーニーを思わず殴ってしまった後のやりきれない表情には何度見ても泣かされる。 これは地味ではあるけれど、素晴らしい映画だ。

Great film and actor lm very happy with the seller and product

Ist das ein Film oder eine Verfilmung von einer wahren Begebenheit? Ich weiß es nicht, aber ich würde vermuten, dass es zweiteres ist - nicht, weil ich dafür irgendwelche Hinweise habe oder es gerne so sehen würde, nein. Ganz einfach deswegen, weil der Film einfach so real und wirklich ist, dass man sich nach dem Film sehr mitgenommen fühlt. Über den Inhalt selbst wurde schon einiges geschrieben, sodass ich mich auf meine Eindrücke konzentrieren kann. Die schauspielerischen Leistungen aller Personen sind aussergewöhnlich gut (und das, obwohl ich Caprio normalerweise wirklich nicht mag). Die Art und Weise, wie der Film die Geschichte dieser Familie erzählt, ist einfach einmalig und genial. Man bekommt einfach nicht den Eindruck, dass man hier einen Film sieht, sondern glaubt wirklich, dass man diese Geschehnisse so beobachtet, als ob sie nebenan passieren würden - denn nichts an diesem Film wirkt gestellt, hingebogen oder überzeichnet. Im Gegenteil, er ist mit so einfachen Hilfsmitteln (d.h. ohne Special-Effects, etc.) gemacht worden, dass er umso authentischer und besser wirkt. Wer glanzvolle Schauspieler, eine packende, wenn auch traurige Geschichte und viel Gefühl sehen möchte, muss einfach zugreifen! 5 Sterne und eine absolute Kauf- und/oder Sehempfehlung!

Having watched pretty much all of Leo's films..this has to be right up there with the best acting of them all. I'd say they all did a good job throughout the movie but to have played the part as well as he did..Leo needed to study the disability and have some sympathy with the problem to be able to choreograph the tics and the movements and the excitement so very well. A joy to watch. And..at a young age as an actor too.. very well directed, some humorous moments, feelings away from the family chores, townsfolk ignorance, just a very well put together story which can only be appreciated from the armchair. Loved it and recommend it to anyone.
