Great controller and great customer service
I've had this controller in our church for our three Avkans NDI cameras now for about a year and am reporting how happy I am with the unit. I had some questions about how to configure, emailed tech support and got a reply back quickly. Even had a remote session where my issue was resolved quickly. The after-the-fact tech support is one of the main reasons I purchased the unit and I've had a quick response each time I've reached out. Very pleased with the item and the purchase and definitely recommend.

Lot of useful features, smaller screen, supports custom VISCA HEX commands
First thing to do BEFORE you start using the controller, UPDATE THE FIRMWARE! Doing this will fix any bugs you may find with the GUI. You update over USB-C, or through the Ethernet interface. I had a chance to compare the Avkans AV-JOY-PRO with their competitor joystick controller. Both have their advantages and disadvantages depending on how your workflow is setup. I wound up chosing the Avkans controller as it has the features I need. The functionality of the controller is very useful working with multiple brands of PTZ cameras. While it takes time to go through the setup and menus, the controller is very intuitive for its basic camera control. You can get really technical with the advanced features. PROS: -Supports multiple PTZ protocols - Supports custom hex code commands for additional camera functions not covered in the standard protocol - Supports PoE connectivity for powering over Ethernet - Touchscreen with full 1080P60 preview - web based GUI has camera preview plus easier access for inputing RTSP links, IP addresses, and various other settings -touchscreen has full QWERTY keyboard CONS: - no multiview for camera feeds -Smaller screen than competitor - slightly more costly than competitor Overall the value for the money is great. I chose this controller not just for the features, but I also want to give good marks on their CS. They are responsive and have answered all my technical questions.

Nice upgrade from our previous controller
Pros: This section is shorter, but carries more weight. First and foremost: I had quick response from customer support. They got me pointed in the right direction to fix a couple of issues I was having. That's a huge plus in my book. Tons of features. Decent touch screen. Bigger screen (and decent image) than most for previewing the camera feed. Single button presses to switch cameras and to switch present views. Our previous controller required 3 button presses for one action. Cons: This is only the second joystick controller I have used, so my experience is limited but my first impression is that there does seem to be just a slightly longer delay between moving the joystick and seeing the change of view on the preview screen. I don't know if that's a function the controller or protocol or camera, but our older and cheaper quality controller seemed a hair faster. Outside of that, my only other two complaints are minor: In some parts of the touch screen menu (like the URL field), it brings up a virtual keyboard making it much easier to type in the value you want/need, but in other parts (like the Name field) it does not - leaving you to use the telephone style keypad to toggle through the characters to enter. I think it should always present the virtual keyboard to enter custom values. The other minor thing is that I wish when you were previewing the camera feed that it would at least temporarily show a setting when you are changing it. For example: If you want to change the speed of the zoom or pan/tilt motions while in preview, you can certainly change them, but you do not see how much you are changing them. unless you go back to the Cam Info screen.

Poor product/Service
Blessings & Greetings, Unfortunately, this product and sales experience has been exceptionally poor and frustrating. 1. The first item received was a used item, not new as ordered. 2. The replacement presented as new, however only functioned once, then would not connect to cameras. 3. No matter what the adjustments to parameters, settings, or connections, the message, “timed out!” Kept showing and it would no longer connect to cameras. 4. The other RS422/485 ports did not function at all. 5. No instructions provided for non-POE setup. 6. Would not function on private network setup disconnected from internet/modem. 7. Would not function after first use on network with modem/internet access. 8. Regardless of adjustments to settings, equipment swaps, or cable swaps, no resolution found.

Sports broadcasting beast!
I’ve had a great experience using the AVKANS Pro PTZ Camera Joystick Controller—it's a solid piece of gear that delivers both reliability and precision, especially in live production environments. Plus, very responsive support! Right out of the box, the build quality stands out. It feels sturdy and professional, not like a lightweight accessory. The joystick itself is smooth and responsive, allowing for very precise pan, tilt, and zoom control. That level of responsiveness makes a big difference when you’re trying to capture clean, fluid shots during a live event. Overall, the AVKANS Pro PTZ Camera Joystick Controller is a strong investment for anyone working in live streaming, sports broadcasting which is perfect for my business. It brings professional-level control at a reasonable price point and significantly improves workflow efficiency.

Sluggish PTZ fixed by changing protocol
I needed a responsive PTZ control for live streaming. I thought the joystick would give me responsive control, but when I tried it I found the joystick to be extremely sluggish. There is a 1 to 1-1/2 second delay after moving the joystick until the camera moves. Then when I release the joystick the camera continues to move for 1 to 1-1/2 seconds. When I use the on-screen controls in the NDI tools app the response is immediate, so it is not a camera issue. Update: AVKANS support suggested changing the protocol to VISCA-IP. After changing the protocol (a tedious process putting in IP addresses) the responsiveness of the joystick was greatly improved.

Great Controller for Single or Multi Cameras
We use tis in our place of worship. It can have multiple cameras, but we only use it for 1. It was a little technical to set up. But once we got it, easy to use. We have 5 presets which is a big part of the reason we wanted a controller. Smooth motion and focus during transitions. We are using this with an IP camera.
