Am i correct in thinking that this model differs from the previous model in that the hdmi cord is detachable?

That's correct. I bought mine over a month ago which is just one cable from the TV to the Dreamcast. The latest revision is the one they're selling now which has the detachable HMDI cable. Apparently there is no difference in performance or quality :)

This cable will be able to play metal gear solid (pal) using my bleemcast disc with my ntsc dreamcast on ntsc hdtv ? (i dont have older tv....)

It will work if you are talking about a black sega dreamcast sport. If you are talking about an xbox, you would need a pound cable for an xbox.

What capture cards will this cable work with?

Anything that accepts a 480p hdmi signal
