Conceptual Physics: The High School Physics program

Love this book. It doesn’t focus on the math of physics at all. The text might bring up a relationship every once in a while, but all of the questions in the book are conceptual in nature. If you want to learn the “what” and “how” of physics without all the math, get this book. I was recommended this text from an AP physics training for review of concepts.

As homeschooling mom I got this for my soon to be senior. I love the book, the details and cartoons that help to explain the concept. I bought the student workbook to go alone with it so I don't have to cover lessons or try to "teach" any thing. I also like the self-quiz or tests after each chapter that are done online then scored immediately. This is a free service and it gives a good fall back for testing and chapter knowledge. Thus far I have been impressed with the Prentice Hall books. We have the Biology book and about to do the Economics as well. Both with workbooks and online tests. They have made homeschooling high school easy yet with public school quality.

This author really knows the concepts of physics and explains them in clear language. Instead of relying on laboratory experiments, he links the concepts to everyday activities that the reader has experienced like standing on a bathroom scale, pushing furniture across a floor, hitting a baseball, etc. I'm a construction engineer and have applied and taught physics all my life. This book is exceptional. I'm reading it now just for enjoyment, and it is very enjoyable.
