Well, there is nothing really I could add by way of words to the genius of Bill Watterson's "Calvin & Hobbles", widely regarded as the last great newspaper comic. The same has been covered by other reviewers before me and besides you wouldn't be reading this review if you didn't have an avid interest in Calvin & Hobbles to begin with. What I can expound upon is that the collection itself is excellent, with a great paper quality ( and greater subject matter still), a robust binding and Watterson's fine lines and clean strokes have all been faithfully rendered in these volume of books. Instant nostalgia and happiness wrapped in a set of books one might say. Also, I might add that the paperback is a better deal than the hardcover as it is a significant amount cheaper and is sturdy enough to withstand the vagaries of time and use provided decent care is taken of it.

Sitting proudly on my shelf next to my box collection of Asterix hardcover and Tintin hardcover and ofcourse some more Calvin & Hobbes books. I love this box set. If you call yourself a Calvin and Hobbes fan then you got to get this. It's the holy grail of Calvin and Hobbes world. The books a legit, they are well bound, amazing print and paper quality and mind you, they are super heavy. I am so happy I got them. Expensive, but something that'll last me a life time and I am going to pass this collection onto my daughter. Everyone can use some Calvin and Hobbes wisdom. Oh..and finally..a shout out to the seller.. the books were imported and shipped all the way from UK, and they arrived via DHL, on time and in pristine condition.

This set is worth the hype in 2024! After 20 years of being a fan, I sprung for the box set. Some reviews made me consider the Paperback, but after receiving it I am very happy with the Hardcover. This set allows you to dive deep into these comics, inspect every tiny line and brushstroke, and appreciate this incredible series in more depth than ever before. Such an incredible collection is worthy of such a big, heavy set. My set had NO issues with binding, discoloration, weird smells, etc. It looks beautiful, it was bubble wrapped by Amazon during shipping (although the side of the slipcase is slightly bent inwards, implying that something heavy was stacked on top of it while it lay sideways). The bent slipcase is hardly noticeable, and I am satisfied with the condition of the item. This set is meant for home use, and I would recommend reading it at a clean table with plenty of room. You will undoubtedly have years of joy from this set. If it is on sale, BUY IT.

Ich liebe Calvin & Hobbes. Diese Comics gehören mit zu den besten, die der amerikanische Comic-Markt hervor gebracht hat. Über den Inhalt auszulassen lohnt nicht, da vorherige Rezensionen bereits alles gesagt haben. Was diese Edition so einmalig macht - alles bisher veröffentliche Material, auch extra für die einzelnen Bände angefertige Bilder, sind enthalten. Und da der Strip 1995 eingestellt wurde, kommt auch nichts mehr hinzu. Diese Edition umfasst somit alles Materila was es gibt und wohl auch geben wird! Für Fans und Sammler geht es nicht besser! Hinzu kommt die Qualität der Aufmachung. Das Papier ist hochwertig, der Druck exzellent, der Einband sehr gut, der Papschoner sehr schön gestaltet. Das Gewicht ist zwar nicht gering (4-5 kg schätze ich), aber das ist es bei weitem wert. Und der derzeitige Preis ist für den Inhalt mehr als angemessen (ich hätte auch 150 Euro dafür gezahlt und es würde mir nicht leid tuen). Als einziger Wehmutstropfen könnte für manche sein, das das Werk auf allen 1440 Seiten in Englisch ist. Aber gibt es einen besseren Grund sein Englisch aufzubessern während man sich köstlich amüsiert (und für viele ist das Englisch kein Problem - Schulenglisch reicht vollkommen um 99 Prozent zu verstehen. Für den Rest gibt es Wörterbücher). Wer auch immer Calvin and Hobbes mochte wird den Kauf nicht bereuen. Und für jeden anderen, der Calvin und Hobbes bisher noch nicht kennt aber nach einem lustigen, humorvollen, intelligenten, niveauvollen und auch zeitlosen Comic sucht sei dieses Werk mit aller Entschiedenheit ans Herz gelegt. Calvin and Hobbes war die Supernova am Sternenhimmel der Comics. Ob es jemals ein besseres Comic eben wird ist, zumindest mir, noch nicht klar.

Français : Certes c'est assez lourd, et encombrant, mais quel bonheur de redécouvrir Calvin & Hobbes, en VO, dans l'ordre chronologique de parution ! Je me suis pris la version relié (plus lourde, et en 3 volumes au lieu de 4). Le tout est de très très bonne qualité, c'est un régal de lire sur un si beau papier, avec les dessins aussi net, et de très belles couleurs ( ceux du dimanche). Je suis très content de mon achat, c'est une très belle collection. Je recommande à tous les fans de Calvin & Hobbes ! I bought the hardcover version (more heavy and 3 books instead of 4). The all is clearly in very good quality, and it's a delight to read on a such pretty paper, with clean draws, and beautiful colors (the sunday's ones). I'm really happy of my purchase, It's a perfect collection. I totaly recommend that to the Calvin & Hobbes fans !

The delivery took about one week (to Sweden) which was what the page said. The collection had shrink-wrapped plastic around it, and then came wrapped in several layers of bubble wrap, all of which was inside a box, which in turn was in another box with some more paper in it to cushion any hard blows to the box in transit. In other words, the collection was very well protected during transport. The collection itself is fantastic, very nice quality. I fell in love with Calvin & Hobbes in the late 80s, and meeting them this way now is like meeting an old beloved friend from your youth. So many fantastic strips with adventures, friendship, love, warmth, and humour. Looking forward to going back in time, losing many hours smiling and laughing when diving into these pages.
