How can this device be tested ?

This is a mechanical fuel gauge that uses a plastic float to indicate the level of the fuel in the tank. I don’t believe that it can be tested. The function is simple and fool proof if installed correctly. Make sure to install it in a tank nearly full of fuel. Most importantly, be certain that the float is facing the long open portion of the tank and not the side of the tank. The float must be allowed to freely raise and lower with the fluid in the tank.

My diameter is 38" . I bought this 36" diameter is this ok to replace my old gauge I cant find a 38" gauge here in amazon?

My tank is also 38" and the gauge works just fine. Go for it!
