Synology HDDs - The Only Choice for Synology NAS
If you are running a Synology NAS, especially one using a Synology Hybrid RAID setup, do the smart thing and follow Synology recommendations and shell out for Synology drives. I bought a DS723+ 2-bay Synology NAS with a DX517 5-bay expansion unit a few of years ago when I moved away from a Ubuntu based NAS using a 10 HDD JBOD storage setup. At the time I thought just throwing my other 8-20TB HDDs into the Synology setup would be fine, even using low cost refurbished drives, as I didn’t have a problem using them in my old setup. In fact they did work fine… for a few weeks/months. Then I had a drive die. No problem, swapped in a new drive, let the raid repair and I was good to go. A couple months later another drive stopped spinning, and this time the raid wasn’t repairable. I think there was data loss on one of the other drives as well, though it was still functional. I had to replace the drive, rebuild the raid, then retransfer the dozens of TBs of data from my old system over to the new raid, then reacquire the new data that was lost. All of that took a couple of weeks. Finally my system was back online, I had switched out the refurbished drives for new or newish ones and things went great for a couple more months. Then the raid failed again. At this point I was beyond frustrated and really considering just tossing the new NAS. Instead I decided to toss all of the disks, and start fresh with only Synology brand HDDs. It’s been a couple years now without a single issue, and this thing is is constant use. Yes, Synology HDDs are much more expensive, not as readily available especially in the size you want, and the biggest ones they produce are 16TBs. But these things are real work horses. Previously I was using several different types of drives, including WD Red and Ironwolf NAS HDDs, and none of them have worked as flawlessly with this system as Synology drives do. Maybe it is just the SHR raid type, or something else with the Synology system that works so much better with their drives. Maybe it is just durability. Either way if you are dropping at least a couple thousand on a decent Synology NAS setup learn from my mistakes and shell out for their drives up front. Maybe another drive will work just fine for you, and maybe I am just cursed with bad luck. Do you want to bet a few thousand dollars on it though? Better to spend more on the right drive now than to spend less on the wrong drives that will just end up sitting on a shelf once you replace them.

Good so far.
So far so good. Installed directly in my Synology 1522+ without issue. Noise level is fairly low for such a large capacity drive.

DON"T USE THIS RESELLER!
Bought 6 hard drives, 1 was dead on arrival and they replace.. 2 days after the 30 day return policy 2 more drives died. They wouldn't replace. DON'T BUY FROM THIS RESELLER!

Works well.
Items arrived on time and works well. At first I was a bit worried about the packaging and transportation. Luckily the HDDs were well packaged individually. I also got confused and thought I received the older 3300 model due to the huge sticker on the front.
