Foster your fourth grader's critical thinking skills and see confidence soar with this engaging full-color workbook! Children are naturally inquisitive from infancy, yet creative and problem-solving skills need to be nurtured as children grow. Like reading and math skills, critical thinking skills require practice. Every page provides a new and interesting activity that will help your child: - Think outside the box and use higher-order thinking skills through open-ended questions and challenges - Tap into his or her creativity with art projects and hands-on activities - Become a better learner by practicing critical thinking skills in cross-curricular activities (based on science, math, social studies, and language arts content) The 100+ activities are organized around these 4th grade themes: - Animals: Wild Cats; Ocean Animals - Natural Forces: Rain, Snow, and Sun; Storms, Earthquakes, and Volcanoes - Transportation: Walking and Riding; Wheels and Wings - Places: At School and at the Library; The Supermarket and the Restaurant Grade 4 activities include puzzles, word problems, riddles, and word games that involve critical thinking skills such as: - Analyze - Infer - Visualize - Solve - Create, and more! Plus, each page lists the critical thinking skill(s) so that you know what your child is practicing. Includes answer key. Every Skill Sharpeners workbook now includes a free downloadable Teaching Guide! The Skill Sharpeners: Critical Thinking Teaching Guides include: - How to Use directions for teaching critical thinking skills - Sample pacing guide to complete lessons and activities - Teaching suggestions for learning to problem solve - Extension activities that include journals, behavioral verbs, and additional discussion topics Review: Highly recommend - This is a well though out book with various activities throughout to engage the child. It's not all writing. Sometimes there are little glue together activities, or coloring etc. It's on point with the level of a child. I have this book for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade. After having used the 3rd grade book I knew I wanted to keep it as part of curriculum for the following years in home school. This is not curriculum on its own though. I know some parents hand their kids packets or notebooks and kind of let them free learn on their own without any real explanations, but this book won't teach your child how to do the work or do the math etc. It doesn't explain how to compute or how to connect the dots of thinking. Some of the critical thinking portions are best to let the child try first, and provide any help along the way if they can't figure it out completely, but for others the teaching must be provided before the child can begin. The books and activities themselves aren't hard exactly, but the information is presented in many different ways so a child can't learn how to look at one activity a certain way and use that method all through the book. They have to develop a flexible mind to dissect each activity. This is what I liked most about it. I highly recommend this series. Made learning fun.
I bought this for my son that is going into 4th grade to use throughout the summer. Saying that he hates any type of school work would be an understatement, but this workbook has been so much fun for him. The activities make him dig deep for an answer and makes it fun along the way.

Challenging and stimulating for under achiever
I'm not sure my daughter would agree with me about this book, but she's learning new material and it's forcing her to think outside the box.

Very Good product
Love these books for my children. We use them during our school year, as we homeschool. I have got them for several years now. Really fun information included, and also has some engaging crafts at the end of each section that my kids are always very excited to do.

Let’s just forget about order of operations 😤
Page 26. Trying to teach my child that 9-5x2=8…what is actually going on here? Did we just forget about PEMDAS? You can’t just subtract before multiplying because you want to make it fit. I’m sorry…I may be blowing this out of proportion…but I am furious. I bought this for my kid so she can get smarter. Now we are having a full blown argument because the answer sheet is telling her she is correct. It took me asking Siri for the correct answer for her to finally hear me out. 10 year olds…man. Whoever wrote this book should be ashamed of themselves. If you cannot do math at a basic level…stick to doing something else instead of teaching 4th graders the wrong way. I’m throwing it away. Lord knows what else wrong it is teaching her.

Inconsistent difficulty
Fairly basic English and general logic or analytical thinking required but math far advanced for grade 4 so ends up being frustrating and counterproductive.
