I am looking for a new felling/general use axe. stuck between this or the Black Forest, any input?

This style ax is the perfect axe for a general all around use..small felling jobs are a breeze a great splitter for small jobs and is good for limbing..I bought this axe to pack in the bush..I own Husqvarna and Gransfor Bruks Scandinavian forest axe I consider them more a limbing axes and there head weight is designed for light duty work. The Helko Pioneer head weight and bit design and handle length makes it the perfect general purpose axe for medium duty jobs. I really like this axe a lot.....5 stars.

Is the handle coated with boiled linseed oil?

I believe my handle is lightly lacquered. I put a little bit of Ballistol on mine and keep the head and other metal parts coated with Ballistol between uses.

does the pioneer have an oval eye or is square on the back end

It is oval, like most common American pattern felling axes.

Just how DO you unstuck it? I'm splitting 3-ft diam green red cedar, just felled last week. Always stuck!

I honestly think this is one of the easiest axes to come free if it doesn't split first whack... In which case I give a firm jerk on the black section of the handle and it usually pops up due to the wide wedge shape... I have two other friskars, and multiple mahls, and old axes, most of which get so stuck you have to lay the wood over and pry upwards, this is by far my best splitting axe, other than the fact the wood handle has started splitting just after 1 seasons use.
