Exceptional tablet for value and quality - would recommend
I have listed some Pros, cons and bits in between on what you get and how it performs below. if you have any unanswered questions about the tablet, post them in the comments of my review. After using the tablet since July, 2018 fairly actively for every day browsing, videos, and recently some gaming, I can say 4 months later, I have got my moneys worth out of the tablet. I was sceptical on buying the tablet for such a price, but I can say it was worth it. The value of this tablet is superb for what you get. I searched long and hard for a competing brand to offer me the same package for a similar price. Finding a tablet that has at least 32Gb of storage, at such a size, for such a weight, with the same amount of RAM with expandable storage - for Android - can be asking a lot, but it seems this tablet does it all. PROS: -Price - I bought the tablet for £215, and for what it offers - the amount of memory, RAM, screen size, battery, and processing power, it is a strong contender vs Apple and Samsung counterparts. You will struggle to find a tablet for £215 with similar capacities of memory, features and build quality. -Finger print sensor - I did not expect for such a price that it would offer one, but it does, and it works really well. -Expandable storage via microSD card - good for more apps, movies and games. -Long battery life - I actively use the tablet average 5-6 hours a day, and on 4-5 hour train journeys, and I charge it 1-2 times in the week. It holds its charge REALLY well, and it can hold it even more with keeping apps closed, unused settings off, brightness at lower levels -Bright screen - Nice viewing angles, and easy to see in various lights. Though still shines in direct sunlight, expected. -Little/No bloatware - that 32Gb of storage, minus the OS, as said above, it was hard to find a tablet that offered such amount for such a price for Android. With expandable storage, you shouldn't run out of memory. -Speakers - the two speakers does make it more clearer and a better listening experience. BIT OF BOTH: -Screen bezels - or lack there of. This tablet is THIN, and the lack of bezels, there sometimes isn't a place to put your fingers without triggering the screen. I would recommend buying a case. -Fairly light - Similar with the bezels, light is good. It doesn't tire the hand, nor does it drag you down vs a 15.6 2.3kg laptop, but without a case, you will sometimes be afraid of breaking the screen, or dropping it - due to the bezels. - The screen resolution - the screen is good, but as you may see with other reviews, apps do not seem to fully utilise its 1440p+ resolution, the max apps such as Youtube will send video to the tablet is at resolutions of 1080p. I do not know how other tablets compare, but my phone has a similar resolution and can retrieve 1440p video. CONS: -No headphone jack - does come with adaptor. With the tablet holding its charge, the times where you want to plug a headphone jack in and a charger will be rare, but I have had this instance after prolonged and active use, which can be frustrating for media consumption. Should I think of anything else, I will update the review.

A few days into ownership - All Good So Far
I ordered this because I wanted a smaller android tablet to take around with me. This fits the bill perfectly. I got a £40 discount on Prime day and so far am very happy with my purchase. The screen is the sharpest of any of the tablets I have owned. It is very light and the battery life is very good. The sound is good for a tablet and works well with a Bluetooth speaker. For anyone else who needs to know I had a problem loading the Amazon Music App. It kept saying that the App was not compatible with this device. This seemed very counter intuitive and after searching the net it seems some other people have had the same problem. Well I discovered this is the answer, if you need to know, set up a Huawei ID and Account and it downloads no problem. Yes it is as simple as that. I already had an account from my phone so even easier. Other than the above it is all good news. The memory card I have loaded works fine, the updates all downloaded, I have copied the Apps and data from my phone so all up and running singing and dancing. More features to explore including the uses for the nano Sim slots. I will update as and when I have time to investigate all the potential of this tablet. For me well worth the premium. but as they say many other tablets are available. Nice choice to have.

M5 FOR QUALITY, POWER & SPEED...
I had previously bought a Huawei flagship phone and was very impressed with the build quality and spec level. So when my Samsung Galaxy Note finally got so slow I wanted to break it I went straight for Huawei. The M5 8 is an excellent tablet and so fast. When powered off, the time from pressing the power button to using it is 18 seconds. That is quick. SCREEN Good bright screen Very clear and sharp. SOUND Very good sound for a tablet Very good volume! STORAGE Very good 32gb and micro SD slot too! STREAMING Fast and stable. DESIGN / BUILD Way beyond anything I've seen from samsung.. Solid machined metal and glass. Premium feel. CONNECTIVITY USB C is great. No headphone socket but USB C adapter works fine or Bluetooth headphones. I have had mine over a month and I am a heavy user, as I work on it. It is a great companion. The 10 inch would be too heavy for my usage hence the 8. I previously had a 10 but it kills your hands. In my opinion, it is a great powerful tablet. PS get a genuine Huawei case they are the best if hard to get...

Superb sound and picture clarity. Great battery life for streaming and surfing.
Updated 8/4/18 Huawei Mediapad M5 8” Tablet - Good for gaming and Livestreaming. Amazing sound quality from speakers and headphones. Amazing battery life. A few set backs but still a great tablet to own. Thanks for reading. I've been shopping on Amazon for 9 years leaving a good few hundred reviews along the way! I like to hope I know a thing or two as a fellow tech guy and good judge of quality for the money. Any negatives are based purely from my experiences so far. Let's start. I've needed a Tablet for a good few years or so. I've been used to Android on a mid range smart smartphone around the same price ranges as the Huawei Mediapad M5 8” Tablet. I did a ton of research against other tablets before diving in and just as the price went up I got the deal price and didn't fancy going down the Samsung path. I looked at the underdogs as always. I was torn between 8" or 10" and decided on the 8" Huawei Mediapad M5 8” Tablet which comes with 4GB Ram and 32GB internal space. There is great power under the hood but some real possible cons too. Researching the pros and cons of a super large tablet I knew 8" would be the sweet spot for carrying the tablet around and enjoying great entertainment. I use this tablet for surfing, videos, reading and games. In comparison the Nintendo Switch is around a 6" screen and my fault ridden smartphone, Sony Xperia XA1 is around 5"6 but for sure 8" is a massive jump and in my opinion the best experience for Android. It's not a pocket size but a tablet size and unlike a smartphone the battery goes a lot further! The tablet won't intrude when traveling or needing to move around the house but I would recommend a carry case and keyboard for a netbook experience. (next on my buy list). Huawei Mediapad M5 8” Tablet(Grey) The good points gear towards the picture quality which is amazing and 2k and 4k images really pop out. Youtube will only let you view 1080p on this tablet though which really is disheartening. You can however download Hologram apps which give 3-D backgrounds that pop and they work a treat on the device. Try them out!. Android really lacks the ability to make text small in apps so text is going to look bigger then you would want. Not all apps including games are built for bigger screens. It's just due to how Android operates so things will look bigger or zoomed in more on a bigger screen that would look better on a smartphone. As I got used to the tablet it's not a massive issue but I watch programs with subtitles and the text is kinda big.The sound quality is ultra impressive and I've been blown away by the full range and depth you get from the speakers alone. I've not heard anything sing as sweet as the speakers. Full stereo sound with bass and takes full advantage of livening the entertainment on Netflix and YouTube and other music streams. The speakers on each side of the tablet are incredible and you get deep full sound. The mighty downside is the tablet has no 3.5mm Jack for entertainment and my headphones do not work with the supplied USBc to 8.5mm jack. This in turn is not the devices fault. The battery is impressive and if you just surf and watch YouTube it barely gets used. Gaming will pull on the battery but it depends on how intense the game is at processing graphics. Games like Candy Crush won't cause the battery to drain but full on 3-D games will, it depends on the app really. You can read, write and do everything else without worrying about needing to charge your battery fully before taking it out with you. Heat is a major issue for intense 3-D gaming but the tablet but tablets are for many other things then gaming. The device will not heat up during normal use and is pleasant to hold or have resting. I jump on PUBG and within 5 minutes the tablet is roasting from the camera point on the back of the device. PUBG runs great as well even at the highest possible settings as well as Oceanhorn (top down 3-D isometric RPG)and Shadowgun Legends (Like Destiny for the Android) but note all these work on my smartphone too and one thing I hoped for is being able to hold my device and game for longer periods. I've been gaming a total of 15 hours over the 4 or so days and it's not a major problem all the time and it does depend on the game too, normal use will not cause the unit to heat up. I play Fifa Mobile to an audience and in 720p over WiFi and that runs cool so it's possibly down to how much the hardware has to work to run a graphic intensive game. Another drawback with the Tablet is the microphone which I can't locate at all. The Microphone sound cuts out and somehow I cover it up. I live stream on YouTube and people say my mic cuts out and I hear it too when I listen. I just can't locate the mic at all. Facebook Messenger I send voice clips and the mic cuts out. This could possibly be a fault with my unit. The Microphone quality is great and will be better once I know where it sits in the tablet. The supplied apps were not intrusive, there are apps for the Kids, useful apps from Microsoft and all the Google goodies. I can't see why people complain about Android putting Google apps in the OS. I would have downloaded those anyway. =/ Everything's good with the interface and easy to navigate. I am new to tablets but I've had a fully working Android smartphone for 4 years. Split-Screen is great and I am sure there will be more features I will like. I was very much interested in Desktop mode for the Huawei Mediapad M5 8” Tablet but I don't know if this is just in the 10" version. It's a feature that makes everything like a desktop for a laptop experience. I hope it is in there as with the bigger screen I could get a keyboard and mouse and use for surfing and research, texting and more. I can't find Desktop mode so I'll see if the app store has something. I don't see much sign of Bloatware at all and 32GB is way more then enough for the majority of us and you can always expand the memory with a SD card anyway. It's a tough call. It's hard to find a better 8" tablet without losing specs. There is a total of 4GB in Ram but the OS takes up about 2GB... I would recommend downloading a free RAM cleaner app too. Good Points. Great battery life. The best sound quality I have ever heard. Amazing picture quality 2k and 4k pictures pop! Immersive Video quality. Great Mic quality. Plenty of storage. Great gaming potential. Holographic Backgrounds! Bad Mic cuts out No headphone port Can only go up to 1080p on YouTube. Some 3-D games will make unit run very hot.

Outstanding tablet Mediapad M5 8.4!!!
Received and I can say this tablet is outstanding. Fantastic screen crisp and vibrant colours pop even for a LCD screen. It is silky smooth too with the 4gb ram onboard and the Kirin 960 CPU excellent makes using the mediapad M5 a pleasure. Now the sound quality from the 8.4 version is fantastic too love it a hint of bass and surround sound to it. Front and back camera excellent, build quilty excellent and battery lasts a whole 11 hours surfing the web and watching youtube I'm very very impressed. Overall excellent alternative to the iPad mini as you will not be disappointed, only gripe I have with it but not a deal breaker for me is no headphone jack but comes with small dongle but still an outstanding purchase.

Fantastic Tablet
The best Tablet I have owned to date really fast and responsive. As for the 13MB back facing Camera it's fantastic even without a flash it can take in door photo's using a night feature & to be honest takes better photo's than the Moto G6 Plus I owned OMG Huawei created a real nice Camera on this Tablet & trust me most average Tablets suck with there Camera's . Day shot photos are really good as good as some smart phones if not better I'm a keen Amateur photographer so know a little about taking photo's been using DSLRs for some Yrs started off with 35ml films . As for speed well No lag what so ever. Not that keen on 2k screen would have been OK with a 1080p 2k is OK but not really amazing. 8.4 is quite comfortable but can become cumbersome after a while OK for quick browse or email checks in a nice decent sized screen as sometimes a smart mobile can be 2 small can comftably watch Movies but best using a stand for ths. I rate this Tablet as well worth the money I paid for it got it fairly cheap in Christmas sale. about £229

Does not stream in high resolution and no earphone jack :/
I was looking forward to this tablet as I am looking to switch from OS to android with time and thought this would be a great start. The tablet well builds and feels good and battery holds well. However what I noticed is that there seems to be no possibility of streaming your videos in HD which came as a real shock considering the year we are in and the tablet being called a media tablet. I assume this will extend to other streaming apps as well (Netflix, Hulu, ...) I find it to be a big flaw and I was not aware of it before purchasing even when I gave it a great care to read up on it as much as possible. Oh, did I also mention that the tablet does not come with a jack for your earphones? I can not see the reason for that either. Internal storage comes with 32 GB with the possibility to add a memory card which sounds great but even after choosing that the tablet should store files by default on the memory card it seems like that that is not as straightforward. I have noticed that each app is stored on internal storage and not on the memory card but also all files and large videos downloaded from those files. To me, it feels like 32 GB storage is not enough. Also, the sensitivity of the display is well below the standard I am used to from any OS device (even when they are years older). The tablet is good but based on these 4 findings I am not sure I would recommend it to anyone. I would summarise it to that, ,,you get what you pay for,, and it does not feel like a great value/performance for your money I believed while purchasing it. Rating: 2.5 stars. Hope that helps anyone who would be looking to buy the tablet to make the right desition for them. :)

Very good 8" tablet
These days small tablets have fallen out of fashion, so it's hard to find a new model, with a good screen quality, reasonable performance and from a know brand. Huawei MediaPad 8" has all these qualities. The fingerprint reader is very responsive and useful to quickly unlock the tablet. There are several small downsides: - modest storage space (32GB) - I was unable to find the 64GB or 128GB models in Europe - slippery back panel (a cover is a must in order to have a good grip) - no audio jack (even is a USB TypeC adapter is included) - no NFC - a stock Android experience/UI/launcher would be better, fortunately the Huawei one can be customized in order to have something decent, and most useless apps can be uninstalled - Huawei for some strange reason do not sell this model in some EU countries (like Romania), so the service under warranty will be cumbersome here
