Check throughly and monthly.
It is what it is and does what it is supposed to do. I will point out that like any particulates barrier you need to clean the filter at least every 90 day. I check the condition of mine monthly.

Hmm, Is It Necessary
After using different oils on foam filters for many years, I read that there was a specific oil for this. I've used bar/chain oil, ATF and motor oil to filter out dirt particles in the foam filter before they hit the paper filter. I never had a problem. I washed the foam filter with warm soap and water, squeezed it dry and then added the oil. With neoprene gloves on, I squeezed the excess oil out of the foam with a paper towel. I guess this is a holdover from the air filter on my first car, a 1964 VW, where the air filter was an oil bath. (Yes, this guy is old!!) So, is this stuff necessary. The experts say yes. So, we'll give it a try. It can't hurt ($-?).
