LOVE IT!
Love the straight forward learning approach this book has to offer, along with the immersion and repetitive exercises, as this is the best way for me to learn and comprehend. The whole workbook is in Japanese, down to the instructions, so the accompanying Translation & Grammar notes Book is vital is you are introductory or beginner level….but I’d only recommend this book if you’re already familiar and have memorized the first 2 kana, as this book doesn’t teach you, or hold your hand in that regard. A CD also comes with the workbook which is nice, but I don’t have a CD player, so I can’t use it but you’re able to download the accompanying mp3 files on the publishers website for free, which is very helpful. I can see why this book is so popular.

Not a lesson book... this is a workbook series.
If you're going to use this as supplemental practice, great. If you're buying this thinking it is a replacement for a book like Genki 1... you're in for a rude awakening. This book presupposes a certain level of comprehension. It also doesn't explain grammar points. It just shows them, and without translation. So, if you're getting this... just know that you'll need to have a separate source for your grammar and vocab study. Use this book with a teacher to guide you OR as a supplemental workbook. Done that way, this book is great. Used as a primary lesson book... it's insufficient.

Awesome!
Shipping was super fast (it’s Amazon so of course it was) and this set comes with two books. I haven’t opened them, but I believe there’s also a CD for the listening exercises. The seller was also kind enough to toss in some of those quick study sheets (grammar, vocab, etc) which was cool! For example, the vocab sheets have the word in English and hiragana. Definitely a good price for everything you get 😄!

Need to Buy Grammer Notes Seperately!
YOU NEED TO BUY THE ACCOMPANYING BOOK OF GRAMMAR NOTES FOR YOUR OWN NATIVE LANGUAGE!!! This book is not good for super-beginners. I only purchased it because it's the required text for my fully immersive Japanese class. It's a good option for my class because each student can purchase the grammar notes seperately in their own native language, so native English speakers don't have an advantage over everyone else. It really doesn't explain any grammar points, and you'll need to do a lot of research on your own using other sources to get through this text. If you're truly starting from scratch and learning on your own, you should try the Genki books or Tae Kim's Guide instead. It also throws you straight into kanji in the first chapter without holding your hand, which personally I really liked. Don't worry, everything has furigana for pronunciation. It's tough, but you'll be thankfully later that you started kanji early. If you have a little experience under your belt already, this can be an excellent practice book for you! I also learned a lot of words that were very useful in my fully immersive Japanese class (practice, example, polite, plain, present tense, past tense, object, subject, particle, verb, transitive, intransitive, etc.). This vocabulary isn't very useful for day to day communication, but it's invaluable in a classroom setting.

SO HELPFUL
I CANNOT stress how good this book is! Like most people say, it’s all in hiragana, but the kanji is broken into the hiragana so it helps with pronunciation. A good addition to something else like duolingo, this book helps with basic, natural sounding conversation

You need to make another purchase to use this
The textbook is fine just fair warning for future buyers— you will most likely need the translations and grammar notes to use this, which is SOLD SEPARATELY. Just a heads up in case you’re like me and didn’t realize you’ll need to make a secondary purchase, effectively doubling the cost of the textbook.

Japanese txt book
It was recommended to me by my tutor and it’s quite terrifying being all in Japanese but I’m looking forward to using it in my studies , so very appropriate and fits the purpose for my studies. A good txt book. The print is very small which does make it difficult to read though.

Altamente recomendable.
