A Great Help! Now UTI's are a Minor Issue!
This product - Swanson's Labs D-Mannose caps along with Natural Care UTI-Care Urinary Tract Health caps have alleviated my chronic UTI's. Meds from the doc was always the outcome and some times a second round of antibiotics was required. I've had UTI's since 1982. Some years just once in a wile but as I am older I have had them more frequent. Good hygiene, cotton and even natural cranberry juice & cran-caps has not made a big difference. I hate cranberries and they are not too fond of me. Allergies/hay Fever makes the UTI's flair up also. I used to get chronic ear infections also (Welcome to Florida!). I know caffeine makes it worse but I am not giving up my green tea in the morning - gotta have something once in a wile! I drink lots of water. No sodas or artificial sweeteners. I eat a lot of fruit so I drink juice only occasionally. I go to Curves 4x a week to work out & I am not a couch potato. I believe if you are prone to UTI's - you just are. Some people get other aliments. The Homeopathic ingredients in UTI Care are a good aide to Swanson's D-Mannose capsules. I usually take 2-3x a day (1) one UTI-care cap & (2)two d-Mannose caps from Swansons Labs who have a higher per cap potency of D-Mannose @ 700mg. I Buy at least two bottles (60 caps) then the shipping is lower per bottle and more cost effective. Most brands have only 500mg of D-Mannose per cap. I do not think UTI-Care caps would be as effective alone. But better then cranberry Caps which was not effective at all for me. It would help relieve symptoms but not get rid of the UTI's. If a UTI turns bad I will drink Cran-Blueberry juice with Vibrant Health - U.T. Vibrance powder which has Mannose, Bearberry, Blueberry, Cranberry, Dandelion, Goldenrod, Goldenseal and Parsley. Along with 3x-a-day UtI-Care (1)cap & Swanson's D-Mannose (2)Caps along with rest & a little ibuprofen. UTI-Care Caps has Homeopathic Apis Mellifica 3X, 6X, 12X, 30X Cantharis 3X, 6X, 12X, 30X Mercurius Corrosivus 6X Phosphorus 6X, 12X, 30X Terebinthina 6X Thlaspi Bursa-pastoris 3X, 6X Triticum Repens 3X. Plus arginine Hcl, Ascorbic Acid, Birch Leaf, Cranberry, Dandelion Extract, D-mannose, Gelatin, Glycerin, Magnesium Aac, Magnesium Stearate, Msm, Silica, Titanium Dioxide and Uva Ursi Extract. If all I could buy was one product it would be Swanson's D-Mannose. But if you can, buy a mix - you get over it quicker with the herbs & Homeopathic ingredients helping. I like the UTI-care caps & Swanson's D-Mannose together the best.

If you have chronic uti's, try this!!!
My urologist recommended I start taking D-Mannose daily as I suffered with kidney stones and chronic uti's. I cannot attribute the relief from stones to this medicine because I am now taking a prescription medication for stones, however I am 100% certain this supplement prevents uti. Since I began this supplement one year ago I have only had 2 minor uti's and both were following a kidney stone. (As opposed to before taking D-Mannose I was living with a constant uti, not to mention my uti's had become resistant to Bactrum and Cipro and I was basically taking macrobid daily). Thank you Swanson for making a quality supplement at an affordable price!

price to quality is good.
Good product. Works as what it's intended for. I do have a preference of brand over this one, but it's still a good product.

Amazing product
I have been married for 10 months and I could not go a week without a UTI. My UTI's were chronic and it made me miserable. I was either dealing with a UTI or a yeast infection from the UTI's. After trying all kinds of remedies (essential oils, high doses of vitamin C, and more) nothing was working. When I found out about D-Mannose I was skeptical, but I was willing to try anything to get better. D-Mannose has been the only thing that has kept me UTI free. If I take two caps two times a day I don't have any symptoms, however, if I miss a dose or start to feel something coming on I take it three times a day and the symptoms completely disappear. This has been a life saver for me and my husband! Now I keep at least three bottles in my cabinet so I don't run out. So far I have gone two months without a UTI!!

It does work!
I wish I had scientific evidence, but I don't, yet I do believe D-mannose helps clear UTIs. About a month ago, I had a UTI that I treated with Macrobid. A few weeks later it came right back. I tested positive for E coli, a bacteria that D-Mannose is supposed to flush out. After a few days on Keflex, I began having kidney pain. I took 2 pills of D-mannose every 4 hours, plus my Keflex 3 times a day as ordered. When I finished the Keflex, I'd been taking the D-Mannose for 3 days. My urine tested clear, which is good bc just a week prior I'd had a very high concentration of E coli in my urine. So all in all, I definitely recommend, but be sure to see your doctor if symptoms don't improve in a few days, or if kidney pain persists. *EDIT* UTI came back a month later. I was baffled. Figured the mannose didn't work for prevention. Took more, still nothing. Then I opened the capsules and dissolved in water. Bam! Immediate improvement. Then I dissolved it in warm hibiscus tea, and even better. The more DISSOLVED it is, the better it gets to your urinary system. Its only beem 12 hours since I had a severe uti, and now my test strips show only a trace of leukocytes. I will continue a few more days, then one a day for maintenance, but has to be dissolved. To test yourself, order benzalkonium chloride wipes to wipe the genital area, then use urine test strips to check for leukocytes. If it tests positive take dissolved d mannose. It works on e coli bacteria, which mine was.

Works best for me out of various d mannose brands
I've tried at least three other d mannose brands, both in capsule and powder form. All are quite expensive when not bought from amazon. Swanson's works best for me, it also has a higher dose per capsule, 700 mg vs standard 500 mg. I take it with me in my purse wherever I go and it has been a lifesaver for me on several occasions when I've taken it at the beginning of my symptoms. At times it did not work, although curiously, those times my culture was negative. I suspect my food allergy was the culprit, as each time I later found out my food the night prior had small amounts of the food I was allergic to in it. So it may have been an irritation/inflammation at those times, as opposed to a bacterial infection, but it felt and presented exactly the same. If you have food allergies and NEGATIVE cultures, I would look into what you last ate and see if maybe you had a small accidental exposure to one of your problem foods, either a food allergy/intolerance/ really spicy food. As an example, the really spicy red colored chips for me = same day/next day bladder 'infection' , guaranteed 100% of the time, which is a shame since they taste so good. :( Could be from the spice, could be food coloring sensitivity, I don't know. One time I actually ate them as an experiment to see if I would get the symptoms and then I was kicking myself for it, it was pure agony. Also, if you've had repeat infections your bladder needs time to heal, not saying you can't eat spicy foods again but they could be a trigger for horrible inflammation that presents itself as a UTI. Just try to pay attention to how your body reacts to certain foods. No food is worth an inflamed bladder, one of the most painful things in the world to the people who have experienced it. I hope this helps somebody, I'm no doctor, just been through this a lot and I know how awful it is. You are not alone and there is hope. UPDATE 5/25/2015: Only antibiotics work for me now when an infection takes hold because it escalates pretty quick and I will be in agony for the rest of the day, wishing I had gone to get antibiotics sooner. D Mannose does seem to help with my symptoms, but as far as treating the UTI, I can't find reliable info on what dosage could do that. I've heard 3Grams every 2 waking hours, but I haven't had success with that. The best thing is prevention. If these or other methods help you prevent the UTI, then that is your best bet.
