An illustrated guide to the most deadly production fighter aircraft in the world The Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor entered service in 2005, and production ended in late 2011. Despite the appearance of many new designs in the interim, an argument can still be made for the Raptor as the most advanced fighter aircraft on active duty today. Primarily due to its stealth capabilities, the F-22 program remains somewhat secretive. Despite a high public profile, under 200 examples were built and some of its systems remain classified. The plane is strictly prohibited from export to allied powers, and the aircraft cannot be exported from the US. The F-22 has seen combat in Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan and even shot down the infamous "Chinese spy balloon" off the coast of South Carolina in February 2023. F-22 Raptor provides a concise pictorial history of the aircraft, from its design and development to its adoption, combat duty, and even use as a exhibition aircraft with the Raptor demo team. Included are many original, previously unpublished photographs from the author's personal collection. Review: Great photos - This series of books always delivers. Great info as well as pictures. Review: Good intro level book. I would buy again - Well written and interesting intro level book. A couple minor mistakes and lacks technical detail. Pictures were good. This is in line with the others books in this series. It gives a solid overview and is worth buying. If you are looking for detailed analysis, this isn't the book. If you are new to the F-22 and are looking for bits on what it is, this is a perfect book. I would buy it again.

Great USAF color photos, poor captions and little text
I purchased this book in a museum shop, so I only have myself to blame. As a model builder, I wanted this book mostly for the photos. When I got the book home, and sat down with it I was greatly disappointed. The photos are great, but the text, other than the poorly written captions are practically non-existent. The author obviously didn’t know his subject. As an example, there is a very good top view of the fighter showing distinctive painted triangles on the upper surfaces. This would have been good to know, but the author didn’t even note the strange patterns, let alone tell the reader what they were. Admittedly, I’m an airplane geek. Those are the details I’m paying for, and felt let down by this book. Another interesting “let down” was his list of tail code and squadrons. He doesn’t even list the cover photo squadron tail code AK, from an Alaskan based squadron. I get the feeling the author decided to whip out an easy book, sitting at some archive, going through USAF photographs and factory puff sheets. He got some static display pictures. There is really nothing else to this book. If you’re a model builder, there are some very nice sharp color photographs. If you want to know the Raptor in detail, this isn’t your book. As an example what the Schiffer Military Legends of Warfare can do with a knowledgeable author, I would highly recommend their F-14 Tomcat book by David F. Brown. There is actually text about the history and development of the Tomcat, and every photo caption tells you something specific, with equally sharp and detailed photography ( half by the author and most of the others taken by F-14 crew).

Repetitive information.
Nice photos, literature is repetitive.

Good pictures, no information
Good high quality and high gloss print pictures, BUT vey little to no technical, historical, and development information. I canceled my sale the same day the book arrived,
