Sounds great but use rechargable batteries
I play an 8 string bass (4 octave pairs) with active pickups, so the output is hot and bright. The G30 faithfully and flawlessly handles both the highs and lows at least as good as any cable - less potential for hum and noise pickup. The dynamic range is great, virtually noiseless, and never overloads, even with my hotter than usual output. I've never experienced drop outs when playing live, and have wandered around both the stage and the floor out front. Update 1/30/2014: I originally rated this as 4 star but have since re-rated as 5 star. Why? Firstly, I went through 2 units, and returned each to Guitar Center because the battery housing lid simply would not latch closed. Maybe all AA batteries aren't a standard length, but I tried several well known makes, and no go. Suspecting a faulty batch at GC, I ordered a G30 set from Amazon (cheaper also!). Same problem. Impossible to close the lid. Being an engineer I finally gave in, and with a small file, filed a small amount off of the latch. That worked, and now the lid closes, and the latch is secure (no batteries falling out as others have reported). But the next potential concern is that this thing gobbles normal Alkaline batteries. I can't make it through two ~2.5 hour practice sessions without having to change the pair. OK, AA are not expensive, but man, having to change out a pair every 4 hours or so just is so wasteful. Update: 1/30/2014: I originally stated in this review that I didn't think rechargables would work. Well, in desperation, I bought a set of 4 1400mAHr capacity Energizer NiMH rechargables, and I was pleasantly surprised that they work fine, and hold up just about as long as the Alkaline batteries were holding up. I keep one pair charged as a spare, and use the other pair, alternating between charges. I've been doing this for four or five months now, and had no problems. I played a four hour gig the other night, and one set lasted all night. Finally, the belt clip is a bit weak. It was ok at first but has now become very loose to the point that it won't stay clipped on. Still the unit is small enough that it could fit in my pocket, though you do have to watch for the channel select switch getting knocked (which will instantly cut you off - trust me, I know). Despite the minor faults listed above, I would recommend this unit to anyone based on its ultralight and compact shape, and its terrific performance. Having found rechargables work, I lifted the rating to 5 stars.

Probably the best budget wireless system out there
I've purchased 2 of these systems so far and they are probably the best budget wireless system on the market. When I say budget, I mean it really isn't that expensive when compared to some of the other options out there. If you're like me and play in a local band, or even bigger than that, 100 ft of transmission is way more than enough for pretty much anything. If you really really need more than 100 ft of transmission, Line6 offers two higher-tier models that each have an extra 100 ft of transmission respectively. I really don't like a lot of Line6 products, especially their amplifiers, but these wireless systems are ones that I stand by. I haven't had any kind of signal loss, and I find that my tone is even better when using this! The only thing I don't like is the cable simulation on the receiver, which I think kind of defeats one of the features, but you don't have to use it so that's great! The system has an available 6 channels so that other members in your band can use the same wireless without any interference. For example, in my band, I use a wireless on channel 1, and our other guitarist uses it on channel 2, and it scales up from there until you hit 6, which should be enough to fit most bands. From experience, the 2 AA batteries will last for about 8 hours of play time, so just make sure that you don't forget to turn it off when you are done with it. You don't need to worry about leaving it plugged in, that's fine, just make sure that you have it switched off when using it. Another great thing about this unit is that it has a battery status light, and an audio light. This is really great for trouble shooting if there are any problems. Both the transmitter and the receiver will shine a green led whenever there is audio going through the system, so if you're not getting any sound, you can figure out which component is either not connected properly, or possibly defective. Luckily, Line6 offers each separate part of this system separately, should one break. Overall, if you've been playing on a cable and have been itching to go wireless, get this and you won't regret it.

Works great, when it wants to
Had mine for a couple years now and in theory it should be awesome byt mine has been very undependable. It was dropping signal when I was 5 ft from the receiver, transmitter had fresh batteries, tried different channels and nothing helped. Got worse as the night went on. It was dropping signal about every 2 minutes. For the cost, I would like to think it could at least keep a signal that close. Occasionally I could go off the stage but then it would drop signal out there as well. Update: after some internet searching I found that the battery compartment is a weak spot on the transmitter. Put a hair tie around the battery compartment and had zero issues with it.

Awesome sound, flimsy construction
Sound quality is excellent. Battery life is great. But mechanical quality is a bit flimsy. The Line 6 Relay G30 preserves all the dynamic content, adds no additional noise, and acts as an excellent buffer. It has absolutely excellent sound quality. Put it in front of your favorite touch sensitive tube amp and it will feel and sound just like using a cable. That's a lot coming from an analog, tube-amp, anti-digital-modeling, snob. The only problem with this product is it's poor mechanical construction. If you're gentle with your gear, or are good at modifying things, I highly recommend it. If you throw your stuff around, or gig heavily, it may not be as reliable as you need it to be, but the sound quality may outweigh the extra hassle. At first glance, the beltpack feels heavy and sturdy. The hinged battery door feels like a tough, well engineered design and the belt clip feels very strong. Unfortunately, the battery door is pretty flimsy. It holds a metal plate that closes the battery circuit, but this metal plate is mounted by some small melted plastic pins. Those pins are also the only mechanical piece holding the door latch against the spring pressure of the battery contacts. This problem leads to the G30 losing power intermittently as you move around. The other guitarist in my band also has a G30 and has experienced the same issue. I dropped my G30, and the plate fell out completely along with the plastic-spring door latch. Also, the beltpack clip mount is pretty flimsy. The clip itself is made of a thick and strong spring metal. It slides onto a couple of different buttons on the back of the beltpack. Line 6 designed this so that you could change the orientation of the beltpack by sliding off the clip and putting it on a different set of buttons. The spring pressure is too strong for the plastic buttons, and one of them broke on the first try. And, because the weakest button is also the button in common with both orientations, I could no longer mount the clip. I never contacted Line 6 because I needed the G30 immediately for a gig, so I just fixed it myself instead. Hopefully their customer support is handling these problems appropriately. The price and sound quality outweigh the poor mechanical construction, so I am nonetheless very happy with this unit.

Great quality, clear as cable and no static!
I have been using this line 6 wireless guitar system for a while now. I can walk about any floor or even outside into my yard with no signal loss this system works great. I also can't hear any different in tone from using this or a 20-ft cable. This is much better than the wireless systems of the same price range I used 15 plus years ago.

So far, fantastic.
I got this unit and have used it for one show so far and it performed beautifully. The venue in question is an older one with tons of lights, triggers, power strips, blah blah blah, so there is a TON of EFI and general interference and this thing cut right through all of it. Simply plug it in you your pedal board, select a channel and you're off. I use in ear monitors and I can hear any variation in my signal over the course of a night and with this there was none that I could notice. I used fresh batteries in the transmitter and it worked for four hours with no problem. I noticed no change in my tone (though I was using a slightly different rig than I usually do) or any other affects with this in my signal chain. For the money: AWESOME. I also like the design of the transmitter. Especially the modular instrument cable that makes switching instruments easy and eliminates a common failure point.

Had to return within first day.
Had to return within first day of use. The transmitter stopped working after playing for only a few hours in my house. Tried all suggested troubleshooting steps from Line 6 website but no joy. Followed Amazon's return procedure and a new unit was shipped quickly. I have to say that Amazon has the best return policy (and customer service) on the web. The replacement unit works but I did have a couple of dropouts on my first gig using it. I'm attributing this to the poor fit of the battery compartment door. It is the weakest link in the chain and seems to be the most common complaint I've seen on the web regarding this system. I will be using one of the neoprene protective covers (also available on Amazon) so I think it may not be such a huge problem after that. Tone-wise, it sounds great. Battery life was much better than I expected. I used the same AA Energizer Rechargeable batteries for the entire 4+ hour gig. If you are looking for a moderately-priced system with great tonal range, this one will work. However, because of the build quality, I would not recommend this unit if you can afford to spend a couple hundred more dollars to get a higher-end system.

Clip breaks off easily.
This has served me well, I quickly broke the clip on the back but I see that is a known issue with these but I just ordered an aftermarket sachet to hold it and it works fine.

THIS IS AWESOME. I have a wireless IEM and this Line6 ...
If youre a worship leader for a small to medium sized church stage, THIS IS AWESOME. I have a wireless IEM and this Line6 G30. The mobility on stage is something you never thought you'd really need. But once you experience the ability to move around you will never go back. It's not that I move a whole lot but i often get tangled in cables, muck around with getting the cable in or out going on/off stage in between sunday service order.......... this thing is works FLAWLESSLY for me. Tone wise, honestly for live stage setting at church, i cant tell a difference AT ALL. (i use this on my gibson full maple hummingbird with Anthem pickup). not once have i had any hiccup using this. The only thing one must ensure is to make sure you check your batteries EVERY set.

Works perfect with my Line 6 Spider
Works perfect with my Line 6 Spider. The range is amazing. Tested playing upstairs in my bedroom and the amp in the basement and it still works. My band maids are all impressed. It can transmits through a few walls with no lost in sound quality.
