Got this razor for my son’s first shave. Big moment. Emotional. I almost handed him a rusty machete just to toughen him up, but decided to be a decent dad instead. Enter: Gillette SkinGuard. I'm skeptical about product "innovations." I tend to find something that works and stick with it, for years-decades. I'd tried 4-5 blade razors before and found them too fat and awkward to use. But this is an exception (even though it really only has the two blades separated by a cushion). When it was clear my traditional two-blade model was being manufactured more and more cheaply, causing cuts and nicks more often than not, especially on my aging skin, I was willing to give this a try. Amazing. I shave in the shower with no mirror, all by feel. After a few tentative tries with it, I'm now sold on this special Gillette model. It feels as close as my old one ever was, yet I have no worries of bloody cuts, nicks, or burns. Cautiously also tried the little single blade at the top of the reversed side of the head. Worked great under nose and at sideburns when done gingerly. I can shave against the grain of the beard without concern. I hope they don't get me addicted to this then have some marketing genius who decides to discontinue it or cheapen its production in the future to increase profit margins. And, yes, this is more expensive, but seems worth it.

This is a great product. From a woman's viewpoint this razor hasnt once cut me and lasts forever for one blade. I def recommend.

First couple blades were great. I don’t have a very thick shave. These give you a great value but don’t get as close a shave as I would like. Leaves skin smooth with no burn.

I was very surprised at how close the blades cut with no irritation. Reused 5 times she still cuts clean. I will probably replace every 5th to 7th shave. Also I changed my shave cream to Nivea for sensitive skin but my old edge works as well so definitely the blade has a big impact.

Best razor i ever used in my Life, smooth shave with every glide. I use it with confidence knowing im not going to break out with razor bumps like I did with other razors and electric shavers. Get this product its worth it and u owe it to yourself.

My story is like hundreds of other reviews: I’ve tried everything - soaps, moisturizers, gels, creams, blades, trimmers, etc. - but my throat and throat back of my neck always break out after face and head shaving. I’m 46 years old and this has been an issue since I was old enough to shave. The only effective solution I have found for my throat is to trim it down to the lowest stubble possible (0.4mm on my Philips Norelco Prestige Beard Trimmer), but that still leaves me wishing for a closer shave (I typically sport a beard or goatee). For the last 10+ years I have been using the Schick Hydro Sensitive on my head and a variety of other solutions on my throat (Norelco rotary shaver, Philips OneBlade), but continue to suffer from bumps and acne. If I let the hair grow out, the bumps go away, but if I grow too long, I get itchy and break out again. So, this Skin Guard blade was basically my last attempt before giving up and just keeping very short stubble on my face (and likely switching to a head shaver that won’t cut close enough but will do the trick). I used it on my head in the same way I normally do - with Edge Sensitive shave gel - first with the grain, then against. Surprisingly, it shaved just as close as the Shock, and I definitely felt like it was a lot easier on my skin. No cuts and no blood. Unfortunately, I can’t tell if the bumps I already had there were just made worse by shaving in general or if they were just still irritated from my last shave four days ago. I also shaved my throat (mostly with the grain) and cheeks (with and against) and used the blade edge trimmer (which was very effective and sharp). In the end, I agree that this is a gentler and close shave. But, whether or not it will completely eliminate razor bumps and acne for me remains to be determined.
