Score your highest in econometrics? Easy. Econometrics can prove challenging for many students unfamiliar with the terms and concepts discussed in a typical econometrics course. Econometrics For Dummies eliminates that confusion with easy-to-understand explanations of important topics in the study of economics. Econometrics For Dummies breaks down this complex subject and provides you with an easy-to-follow course supplement to further refine your understanding of how econometrics works and how it can be applied in real-world situations. An excellent resource for anyone participating in a college or graduate level econometrics course Provides you with an easy-to-follow introduction to the techniques and applications of econometrics Helps you score high on exam day If you're seeking a degree in economics and looking for a plain-English guide to this often-intimidating course, Econometrics For Dummies has you covered. Review: Solid Reference Material and Better Source Material - Great book for econometrics classes. While not a full replacement for a course textbook, combining this resource with any stats or econometrics textbook will significantly improve your understanding of course material. Complaints over the use of STATA are over reactions. PeDace uses STATA to demonstrate how one would apply the concepts in any given section to software, since no one is doing this stuff by hand. Pedace will give you the basic foundational understanding of every concept, it's formulas, THEN SOMETIMES demonstrate how it can be done using STATA. Excel, Google Docs, R, and Gretl (last 3 are free) can all be used in conjunction with this book to do everything he demonstrates. If you are looking to use this as your only source material because you aren't taking a course, I suggest using a real textbook and this to supplement it. Review: Great resource! - This book was invaluable during my econometrics course! Each chapter can be read on its own - and itโs easy to jump in at any point. The division of topics is quite logical as well, so itโs easy to find what you are looking for. Topics are explained in a way that is easy to understand. The biggest strength of this book is how clearly it explains concepts - and it also highlights which information is the most important! I found the STATA examples to be very helpful - especially when trying to figure out the software myself. However, you can still get a good grasp of the concepts without having STATA or using the examples. I also appreciated the inclusion of some Stats review and the probability tables - which meant I didnโt need any other resources to get a refresher!

Uses expensive software
Unlike most Dummies books, this one requires expensive software. It could have been a good book if had used open source software, but as it is you can't do the examples without spending big $$$. Mine's going back.

Good review book
The book was helpful to review for my final. This book will mostly help you to gain a better conceptual understanding but not so much in terms of calculation.

A dummies book but not really for dummies
This is a brilliant introductory book on econometrics. I cannot even begin to imagine how hard it was to write this book. The balancing act of maintaining the fidelity of econometrics with a dummies perspective must have been challenging. The author presents classical topics in statistics (hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, etc.) and econometrics (Ordinary Least Squares, Classical Violations, etc.) in a rigorous but straightforward approach. I was very surprised that the author chose to use derivations/equations to present topics. This method of teaching econometrics is extremely powerful but is not for everyone. As someone having a PhD in Economics, I found the presentation of materials extremely clear and even refreshing. However, I'd find it almost impossible for an individual to learn econometrics from this book without prior experience. That's not saying anything bad about the author. He/She did the best they could. Econometrics is hard.

Good book!
This is an excellent starting book to learn basics of econometrics. Only objection I have is using STATA, which is commercial software, for examples. More suitable for wider audience would be using R.

The simplicity I needed
I was looking for a book to help me solidify what I learned (and some things that I didn't learn) in my first semester of econometrics, and this was perfect. I will be taking advanced econometrics this year and, with this book, I now feel better prepared for the class. This book explains both the methodological and mechanical fundamentals of regression analysis. As a previous reviewer mentioned, there are alternative textbook supplements out there, but I think they assume too much prior knowledge for most first-semester econometrics students. Another great characteristic of this book is that it provides examples of how to apply the techniques using software and good explanations of the computer output. This is something that's missing in many of the other alternatives. I wish this book had been available when I took my first semester of econometrics, but better late than never.

Good for Data Analysis people figuring out more about Modeling
This book is very helpful understanding Stats modeling without getting too deeply involved with maths. I am doing data analysis in business cases. And for most stats material I have encountered, either they failed to provide valuable information helping me making modeling decisions, or they get too deeply involved with mathmatics that I do not understand for my knowledge. This book is just right if you want to understand different models and apply them in real life problem solving. For those who complain about this book being not for dummies, well, in the introduction of this book, it has mentioned some of the stats knowledge and econ knowledge are assumed for readers. I would say, if you have solid understanding of how to construct a linear regression and would like to know more about different modeling, this is the book for you to go further.

Not for dummies
So I bought this thinking I could get some basic knowledge on econometrics. In the first chapter it basically gives you a list of prerequisites that were not listed on Amazon. You need to be a econometrics student or need to have pre-existing knowledge on the subject. You need to have STATA software, which is paid software to follow the examples of the author. This is supposed to be a for dummies book. It should be accessable without having any prior knowledge. I was quite disappointed and got a refund.

This subject is specially for economists and gives you the basic to understand it an a simple way, using math, statistics and economy theory ( as micro and macroeconomic ) to built an econometric models to understand some economic phenomena.
