Working great so far. Maybe a bit noisy, but still recommended.
Just got this microwave when our above-range microwave quit. The size is good for our countertop. Before ordering, I marked off the 16" x 20.6" footprint to be sure it was not too big. The inside and turntable are just large enough for a full-size dinner plate, so I wouldn't want to get anything smaller. I never use the fancy programming; I just do timed cooking at high-power almost exclusively. So for that, this microwave is great and easy to use. It seems to heat things a bit faster than the Kenmore Elite microwave that gave out on us. It has a nice appearance in our kitchen. You can turn off the bell/beep, which I appreciate. My only criticism is it is louder than our other microwave -- noise that seems to be from the outer metal casing maybe -- but it's not so bad that I wouldn't buy this one again. All in all, it's a very good microwave and a super value. Minus 1/2 star for noise, rounded up to 5 stars. Now we need to figure out what to do with our dead above-range microwave.

Great Microwave, Excellent Value
An excellent microwave. Used every day, several times a day. Simple, powerful, works. What else can you ask for in a microwave. Always been partial to Toshiba products. We have one of their TV's

Great customer service and a great microwave.
This is our third purchase of this item. The first one we had for over 5 years. It was a great microwave for the price. We used it everyday so it finally wore out and we purchase another but unfortunately it only lasted three months. We worked with the manufacturer and they gladly refunded our money and only required photos so we did not even have to ship it back. This one is our replacement purchase and hope to have it for many years of service. Thank you so much for standing by your product and for the kind and helpful customer service you provided during the process! We definitely would purchase again.

Jury is out
Updated 3/20/26 Another person atToshiba contacted me in March regarding this issue. I had given up after the runaround and bought another microwave. The new email stated they would take care of the issue. They asked for some of the repeat information, and I sent it, not believing it would be helpful. Within a few days, they notified me that they were sending me a new microwave. I received the replacement microwave this week. I've used it one time, and it works great. My other one worked great for 10 months hopefully this one lasts longer. I was asked to update my review since a replacement was sent to me. It was a lot to get a replacement, and I had already purchased a new microwave from a different brand. It took 2 months for this issue to get taken care of. Guess I'll update this review if the microwave doesn't work long. Previous review I purchased this microwave in 2025 after mine quit working. I did a lot of research and read a lot of reviews before deciding on this one. This past weekend, I was reheating carrots in the microwave and must have heard a noise. The microwave had been running less than 30 seconds, so I knew they weren't hot. I continued in the kitchen and caught a flash out of the corner of my eye. A few seconds later, a second flash. This time I watched the microwave and saw flames shooting out the side of the inside of the microwave. I immediately shut it off and unplugged it. Two carrots were black from where the flames was hitting it. They were still cold from the refrigerator, so they hadn't been in there long. I contacted Toshiba because it's not even a year old. I received an email on Monday, which impressed me with their quick response. They asked for my address, a picture of the model number, and a copy of my receipt. I immediately responded. I received an email on Tuesday, with a list of 8 questions. I immediately responded. I received an email on Wednesday, with a request for more pictures. I immediately responded. I received an email on Thursday with a new request. I spent two hours on Thursday working on their new request. At this point, it feels like a game from them with a new request every day. Plus, the one email a day. I've ordered a new microwave, from a different brand. I would never buy from this company again and definitely do not recommend it.

Offers fantastic performance, stylish design, and great value for the price.
I couldn’t be happier with my TOSHIBA EM131A5C-BS Countertop Microwave Oven! After a year of daily use, it has completely exceeded my expectations. First, the 1.2 cu ft capacity is perfect for a family kitchen. It easily fits a full-size dinner plate and even a medium casserole dish without any issues. The 12.4" removable turntable ensures everything heats evenly — no more cold spots in the middle of my leftovers! The 1100 watts of power really make a difference. Food heats quickly and consistently, whether I’m reheating coffee, defrosting chicken, or making popcorn. The pre-programmed sensor menu works surprisingly well — especially for popcorn and pizza. It automatically adjusts the time so I don’t have to guess. I also love the sleek black stainless steel finish. It looks modern and blends beautifully with my other appliances. The large digital display is easy to read, and the control panel is intuitive and user-friendly. The mute function is a small but amazing feature — no more loud beeping late at night! Cleaning is simple thanks to the easy-to-wipe interior. Overall, this microwave offers fantastic performance, stylish design, and great value for the price. If you’re looking for a reliable, powerful, and attractive countertop microwave, I highly recommend this one. Five stars!

Three years in and still works like new. Fairly quiet until the timer goes off

I love it!
I give this Toshiba microwave 5 stars cuz I really do love it. I think a lot of reviews say it's loud, and maybe it is, but I've only had one other microwave and it was loud too so I can't comment on that. It doesn't bother me. The things I love The size. It takes up little space on my limited counter top space but big enough inside to fit a full size dinner plate with room to spare. I love the door latch that is as simple as grasping the handle at the top and it easily depresses to allow the door to open. The button placement is quite intuitive and smart. STOP/Cancel is very bottom right button and is RED so stands out beautifully from the very first time you use it. Cook Time is directly above the "STOP/Cancel" button, so super easy to find even in the dark. The START/ +30 Sec. button on very bottom left is super convenient. I love that it has 1 press buttons for 1 minute to 6 minutes, clearly marked with a box around those numbers. As for the Smart Humidity Sensor, well that is something beyond my limited knowledge of how microwaves work, so I haven't played around with that yet. The power on regular usage is very good. I also love that when the timer goes off, soon as you open the door it shuts up.

Fantastic, and NO BEEPING SOUNDS
I was going through my past orders and didn't realize I hadn't reviewed this yet, which is crazy because I feel like evangelizing about it, I love it that much. I've had this oven for 3 years now, and I couldn't possibly be happier with it. It functions well, it's really easy to use and clean, and best of all NO BEEPING. The silent operation of this oven is its best feature and the primary reason I ordered it. I know most people are probably happy to operate it with the beeping sounds, but if having the option to silence all beeping sounds is as essential to you as it was to me then this is your oven. Once in awhile when the power goes out I'll have to reset the silent mode when I reset the clock, but other than that I never hear any beeping from it whatsoever. Not when the buttons are pressed, not when the cooking cycle is done. I've seen some reviews saying it's loud when cooking, but it's no louder than any other microwave - I don't know what these people are talking about. All microwaves make some noise when cooking.

As good as it gets
We searched endlessly for a new microwave for our new home and happened to come across a Wirecutter article (do a web search for it) where they took some of the most popular microwaves and put them through a ton of tests. The Toshiba models were at the top of the list for even cooking (use potatoes for testing), best popcorn performance with the least amount of kernels left at the end, good defrost performance, intuitive easy to use controls and their one year warranty you supposedly don't send the unit back, rather you provide them with a receipt and they issue you a refund cheque which is much appreciated. So far we love the unit as it's easy for our kids to use as it has that basic 1980's style control layout not one of these new ones that tries to be some science fiction 2120 food preparation units. Popcorn bags come out perfect and reheating food is nice and even. First Toshiba microwave I've ever owned and I don't know I'll ever go back to Panasonic after this. Update April 2024: The unit has now died. It did a bag of microwave popcorn, then another family went to use it and the interior light was going on and off like it was shorting out and the screen was doing the same. Unplugged, plugged back in but same issue. At this point it's faulty and no idea where to begin to try and repair it so off to electronic recycling it goes. Managed to get 4.5 years out of it but not super impressed.

Great microwave!
This microwave has served us well! It heated our food relatively evenly and quickly than our previous microwaves we've owned. But after 5 years, 9 months, and 10 days, it started running by itself when the door is closed without starting it and it won't stop until you open the door. Unplugging it seemed to fix the issue. However, after just a week, it stopped heating food completely at any power setting. After reading about using a microwave at full power all the time for the size of our family, it would only last 4-5 years instead of the expected 10 years. In this case, I guess it has reached the end of it's life. As far as design goes, I wish the plug was flat and angled so that it isn't sticking out of the wall and cable management would be neater. It's a little bit hard to clean the corners because the inside isn't seamless and food sometimes can get stuck in between the seams. Gently getting those out with a brush seems to work for us. Getting the glass tray back on top of the ring with wheels is a guessing game turning it just right until it falls into place on the small spinning mechanism in the middle. The new microwave we got (also a Toshiba) seems to have fixed this issue with a built in spinning platform which removes the guess work to some degree. Overall, this microwave worked really well for us, until it didn't. But such is expected I guess for the way we used it.
