I am the kind of person who likes her coffee HOT! I'm talking burned throat if I take too big a sip...hot! But I tend to take too long to drink my coffee, so it gets cold on me and I have to microwave it. But when I take my coffee with me in the car, I have no way to keep it hot, so I suffer with a luke-warm cup of joe. And I suppose I have gotten used to settling for cold coffee (it's not cold, but might as well be). But not anymore. This mug is not only leak proof, it keeps my coffee hot! The only draw back for me is that I cannot microwave it. I like to put half and half in my coffee, but it makes my coffee cold. With my ceramic mug, I microwave my cup filled with the creamer, then brew directly into my mug (I have a Keurig from Costco). As long as the creamer is somewhat warm to hot, the coffee temp is fine. But since I cannot microwave this Contigo mug, I have to pour my creamer into a small glass measuring cup, microwave it, then pour it into this new mug, then brew directly into the new mug. Screw the cap on and shake......and there you go! Now, I sit down with my mug of coffee, take a sip. Check my email, take a sip. Read my book, take a sip. Return from the restroom, take a sip. Start some laundry, take a sip. And the coffee is still hot. It is amazing! The coffee temp waits for me until I am ready. Now that's the kind of mug I like! But I must warn you.....hold the button down for a few seconds before your first sip! Let the vent exhaust some steam first. On my second cup of coffee in this mug, I did not let it vent enough, and my mouth and lips were burned by the steam (but not bad). I was in a hurry to get my joe.... didn't want to wait. But now I respect the mug! Don't worry, the coffee will still be hot! I was expecting the outside of the mug to get very hot, due to the stainless steel. It does not. I was gladly surprised. I love my ceramic mug, but even though the outside of the mug is blazing hot and burns my hands, it does not keep my coffee hot. When I'm holding the mug in my lap, (using the handle) I have to rest the bottom of my ceramic mug on a pot holder. But with this stainless steel mug, the outside is not hot and feels very comfortable. I really like the 20 ounce capacity. My ceramic mug held 17 ounces, so I actually have more room in this mug. However, it does not fit under my Keurig. But I make it work by tipping the cup under the Keurig at an angle. Because I don't fill it to the top, it works just fine. This mug also fits in my vehicle's cup holder, which is a big plus for me. Now that I have a mug that can hold the temp, I make a cup to go and take it with me, and I finish it when I am ready to finish it, not gulp it down in record time just so I don't have to finish a luke-warm mess. I actually made all of my errands and still had a half cup left, which I enjoyed in my lazy boy chair after I got home! In essence, coffee for me is a time of enjoyment and indulgence. I don't like to rush it. But I have been forced to rush because it gets cold too fast. But not anymore! One night it took me almost two hours to drink my coffee, but I enjoyed every HOT sip! The mug and lid are easy to clean. Everything on the lid is easy access for washing. Unlike my ceramic mug lid. This mug is leak and drip proof. With scalding hot coffee, I turned it upside down over my lap to display it to my hubby. He freaked out, but it did not leak at all. Another thing I really like, because I have had many mugs of coffee tip in the vehicle and spill all over the seat. I could care less about the seat......... but what a WASTE of perfectly delicious coffee...... But not with this mug. The only negative I found with this mug, is I detect a slight metallic taste with the first few sips of each drink. It seems to go away after a bit. I have never used a metal mug, because of the microwave issue. So perhaps I just need to get used to the material. I have always used plastic or ceramic mugs.

We've had these mugs for a couple of years now - specifically since my husband spilled a cup of scalding tea down his leg at work and got some seriously nasty burns and blisters on his ankle and foot. We live in the PNW - land of cold and rain - and drink hot tea 10 months out of the year. We needed cups that 1) didn't spill 2) fit in the car 3) keep tea reasonably hot 4) are reasonably easy to drink out of and 5) can be cleaned by mere mortals, preferably in the dishwasher. We have yet to find anything better. The stainless steel seem to be the best of the lot. I will straight up tell you that I alternate between a quick rinse between uses and washing both cup and lid in the dishwasher. Yes, top rack, and I use a mild, eco detergent with a gentle, eco cycle, but that's how I do things - dishes are meant to be used, and with very few exceptions, if something can't survive a mild trip through the dishwasher, it's not long for my house. The older colored cups didn't do well in the dishwasher - the paint flaked off and they started to look ratty. But they still worked.. The stainless steel cups have worked like a champ, though, and I think the design has gotten even better in the last couple of years. We've never had a problem with the lids getting funky, but then 99.9% of the time we're drinking tea with a touch of honey - no dairy. Sometimes in the summer I'll put horrible things in there: iced coconut water with ginger or even kombucha. But even if it's sat in the back seat of the car a few too many days and developed a bit of an aroma, a trip through the dishwasher and/or a hot soapy soak usually does the trick. The large is perfect for two Harney tea sachets - lesser bags might require three. We usually steep and remove before we go, but if I'm drinking something herbal, I have screwed the lid down right over the bag string. The drinking mechanism is easy, but can take a bit of getting used to; basically it's always sealed unless you are actively pressing down the button to drink. It does require a certain amount of hand strength - it's difficult for my handicapped father, and my daughter couldn't do it till late elementary school, but she's a bit of a midge and has tiny hands. Basically, they're great. It can be hard to get good tea, so now we almost always bring our own. It doesn't matter if they get kicked over under the pew at church, dropped on the floor of the car or knocked off the table, my tea has never spilled - and believe me, my kids *excel* at knocking things over. I've even thrown one in my bike pannier and squeezed one into a bike bottle holder. Yes, tea on a bike - what else am I supposed to drink when the kids and I finish a chilly ride to the library. And oops, thanks for knocking the tea out of mom's cup holder and onto the concrete. New dent? New chip out of the plastic lid? Why would I care? My tea is hot and still in the cup :-) And in case any of you wondered, no new burns, either. Though if you get hot water from a coffee stand, please be careful removing the bags and drinking until it has a chance to cool down :-)

I bought the big one for my Grandson as a gift! I bought 3-16 oz mugs one for me in plum and then I bought 2 in a package one a champagne and the other a Mauve for the price of my one special Plum mug. I love that it has no stuff to deal with like fipping a tab open to drink and then close it, no straws to clean or leak. It's a one hand operation, pick it up and your hand is naturally over the button on the side to press which allows the flow as you drink and release and its COMPLETELY LEAK PROOF no lie. You just need to make sure you twist the cap on securely. It also has a lock button so you don't accidently bump the button and release liquid if you put it in your purse, backpack, lying in bed watching TV you won't have to worry about spilling any of it. Just a bit of soapy water and a bootle brush and a rinse and it's ready to go again. The top has the mechanics in it, but just a little push and it flips out of the way for washing too. Not recommended for the dishwasher if it has the painted exterior coating, but I wouldn't the lid as it is plastic. If you fill it with your cold drink the night before and set in the frig, the metal will get cold and keep your drink really cold and for longer. Two pieces all there is very minimalist and shaped for a solid grip. You don't have to take your eyes off the road, just pick up and drink ! Update: I've had my personal 16 oz (others were gifts) for over a year and this is what I have learned. You don't want to let things like coffee with cream or a smoothie sit in the container over night or longer because it will leave a nasty film all over the mechanics of the lid and then you have a harder time cleaning it, trust me. The other thing is I noticed some stainless water bottles are 8/10/304 quality, which leaves no metal taste; I really wish it had this food-grade stainless would make it perfect. Last evening I couldn't find where I set it down, I live in Arizona and it's around 100 degrees out at it's coolest point at night right now, this morning I went out on the patio to find my Mug and I thought for sure what water was left in it was hot; I was surprised to find it nice and cold with even some ice left in it. Now you can't beat that.

Earlier this past fall, I needed a way to be able to keep up with my twins who are now almost four. I decided to try coffee and purchased a Keurig, along with some necessary coffee accessories, including a travel mug. There are many choices available but I really wanted a purple one (my favorite color) and this one looked like a good one so I purchased the violet color in the 20 ounce size since that is the only size available for this particular color. This Contigo travel mug is made so you can use both hot and cold beverages in it. It advertises that it will keep your hot beverages hot for up to seven hours and cold beverages cold for up to 18 hours. The mug itself is made of stainless steel and the top is plastic. It is made in China. The lid is dishwasher-safe and the body is hand wash only. This mug cannot be microwaved. The mug comes equipped with Autoseal, which means you have to press the button in order to drink your beverage. There is a lock on the top of the mug and when that's engaged, the Autoseal button won't work at all, in case you want to ensure that the mug won't spill its contents. The 20-ounce mug holds 20 ounces of liquid easily and you won't want to add any more so the top will seal properly and no liquid will spill out. With the lid on, the mug measures 9 1/4 inches tall and without it on, it measures 8 inches tall. I've had this mug for almost five months now and I like it. I like the beautiful violet color and it hasn't peeled off at all but I do have some scratches on it. I'm not rough on my possessions but it's only a few scratches that aren't really noticeable unless I really look closely at it. I can easily hold the mug in my small hands and it also fits well in my car's cupholders. Once the mug is unlocked, I can press the Autoseal button and drink from it with one hand. Then you release the button so the lid closes and, as long as it's properly closed, it shouldn't spill any liquid. I've turned mine upside-down to test it out and never had any liquid spill. When I hold the mug, I can't feel either hot or cold on the outside. Upon receiving this mug, I was disappointed to discover that it isn't compatible with my Keurig K55 Single Serve Programmable K-Cup Pod Coffee Maker, Black because I can't fit it under the brewer even with the drip tray removed. In order to use this mug, I have to brew my coffee into a mug and then pour it in this mug. It isn't optimal but it works. The mug without the top measures 8 inches tall and the space where you place your mug in the Keurig measures just under 7 1/2 inches so this one won't fit. I can't speak for the 16 ounce mug and it's possible that one might fit. I also don't feel this mug keeps beverages hot and cold for as long as it advertises. The reason I say this is because I've brewed 16 ounces of coffee at 8:30 am, added some creamer, and by 11:00 am, the small amount of coffee left is cold. The creamer I use is cold but I use only a couple ounces and wouldn't think it would make that much of a difference in a vacuum-sealed container but maybe it does. I also put water in it, added lots of ice cubes and had it sit on the counter for about four hours. When I opened it, most of the ice had melted and the water was cool but not cold. To be fair to this mug, beverages never last that long for me since I tend to drink water very quickly and coffee doesn't last very long at all either, so if you also tend to drink your beverages quickly, that factor might not matter that much to you. I feel this mug is easy to clean. You'll want to hand wash the body in mild, soapy warm water and the lid is top-rack dishwasher safe. Always allow the parts to dry separately so water doesn't get trapped. If you choose to purchase this mug, there is a sheet of tips which I'd suggest reading prior to using this mug. I won't mention all of them but one helpful tip is that if you fill this with hot liquid, allow the liquid to cool down with the lid off for at least three minutes before putting the top on. Even when I've done this, I press the Autoseal button and the coffee with creamer added is still hot and hurts my lips. I'm not sure if this is normal with coffee mugs but I try to carefully drink with this mug. Overall, I like this mug and have used it several times but I'm disappointed it doesn't fit with my Keurig. I'm still able to use it though and it only requires me washing another dish which is okay. I love the color and the Autoseal feature is a good one to ensure you don't spill hot coffee in your lap on your way to work. I don't feel the mug keeps beverages hot and cold for as long as it advertises and that factor may not bother some prospective customers. Since the biggest factor for me is that I prefer to use this with my Keurig, I opted to purchase Thermos Stainless King 16-Ounce Travel Tumbler, Midnight Blue which I now use more often and it works with my Keurig. If you have no size restrictions and tend to drink your beverages quickly, I'd say this mug is still a good option. However, if you want to use it with a single-cup brewer like the Keurig, I'd look more into the size to see if it will fit. I personally prefer the Thermos travel mug better but the Contigo mug is a little less expensive which may be a factor for some as well. I still use the Contigo mug occasionally but once it doesn't work anymore, I wouldn't purchase another of these again but those are because of my preferences with travel mugs.

I have ordered several of this item. They keep you drinks cold for hours (not sure about hot drinks). They hold about 16 ounces. Lid functions woth push button and has a locking function. Very durable.

It all started in 2014. I was a freshman in college and the guy I was seeing had the plastic cold-water-only version of this bottle. When I first saw it I was confused. I thought the button was stupid and overly complicated. Little did I know this bottle would come to be a staple in my life. On mornings when I was hungover, I would reach out and grab the nearest hydration. This trusty bottle was always there. The size of the opening allowed just the right amount of water though so I wasn't drowning but I also was getting hydrated with the speed and desperation of a hamster post-hibernation. (No, I don't actually know whether hamsters hibernate. Sorry.) Anyway, the button saved me so many times. Often when lying in bed I might drop my phone on my face. The same is true of a water bottle. If I had had just a normal, sad water bottle, I would have spilled water all over my face. This bottle, however, closes the second you release the button, protecting me from the curse of my own weak arms. It was truly a hydration miracle and I brought it with me everywhere. Flash forward to 2016, the dark times. At some point in the computer science building, I lost the bottle. Legend says if you walk the halls at night you can still hear the echos of my screams: "Where are you? I can't live without you! Somebody help me!" My boyfriend suggested that I look online and find a replacement. I scorned the idea, no water bottle could replace my water bottle. He pointed out that the bottle was actually his but I would not hear it. Eventually, when the time for mourning had passed tenfold, I decided it was time to get back in the saddle. I went online tentatively. I thought I was taking things slow, but when I saw that Contigo was no longer manufacturing this model, I was heartbroken. Still, I didn't give up. I went on eBay and was still able to find one, albeit I'm the wrong color. Nonetheless, this new bottle found a way into my heart. We spent many loving years together. Eventually, my bottle was covered in as many scratches as stickers. The plastic began to become dry and cracked. This is no fault of the manufacturer, given that I bought it secondhand and that I used it for four years diligently every day. Also I dropped it all the time. My poor bottle was becoming worse for wear. Nevertheless, no one could replace this bottle in my mind. One day, I opened an incognito tab and went online just to see what was out there. I wasn't expecting to find much, but I saw this. Contigo had begun making the same bottle, but this time thermally insulated. I stared at it for a long time. I read reviews. I put it in my cart and took it out again. Eventually, I convinced myself I would use it for tea. I told my old bottle that it was for a different purpose, that it would never be the same. Alas, I was wrong. I regret my foolish promise deeply, but I had to follow my heart. This new bottle is, in fact, superior. Not only does it keep tea hot all day, but it also keeps water cold and refreshing in the summer. It is two rolled in one, the love child of my previous bottles, and I adore it. Thank you Contigo. P.s. I couldn't fit these things into my story but it's easy to clean and the metal doesn't keep flavors in so plain water tastes good even after it was previously full of smoothie. My only complaint is that it leaks a little at the seam if you don't close it tight enough and you have a hot drink. I think this is because the steam expands the rubber seal slightly. Either way, it gets three thumbs up from me.

I really like the size and function of this spill proof mug. Item arrived in padded, cardboard packaging. Arrived in perfect condition. The lid is easy to twist on and off. It is easy to clean with easy open lid mechanism and bottle brush. No leaks or drips have happened. Have only used for coffee so unsure how long it keeps drinks cold but it doesn't keep coffee hot very long. It definitely does not keep beverages hot for 7 hours. It is important to open the seal away from face and allow to release pressure before drinking when using hot liquids. The instructions do mention doing this. The outside does not get hot to the touch. The contour of the mug fits nice in the hand and allows for easy use of the release button with one hand. Locking the release button is done with a button on top of the lid. The lock button is a little stiff to flip up and down but that ensures it is not accidentally unlocked. Overall this is the perfect mug for me. I do not mind it not keeping the contents hot for 7 hours. I purchased this to use for coffee only and I am very satisfied with all aspects of this mug. It does have a limited lifetime warranty for manufacturer defects but not normal wear and tear. You can register your mug at Contigo's website quick and easy.

Good colour, but can’t wash bottom in dishwasher in case matte blue is tarnished. But overall it’s classic contigo and holds a lot of coffee!
