How are these buckets better than the ones you get at Home Depot or Ace that are also HDPE plastic

They are the same plastic HDPE 2 but these expensive ones are a bit thicker .90 mil vs .70 for the Home Depot ones.

What is the best way to clean these buckets so there is no scent or taste left behind?

There is no good way to do this completely. The best option to try is to make a paste with baking soda and water to coat the inside. Rinse it out well and you could try it a second time, but there are no guarantees.

Can hot soup be transported in these buckets?

I would be dubious in putting hot food in plastics. I'd prefer to put hot food in either glass, ceramic or metal containers. Save the plastics for the cold stuffs.

How many pounds of food will this hold

Rally cannot answer I used for water when moving my fish tank. What kind of food?? Five gallons of water weighs forty pounds so I know it can hold that. Hope this helps.

bought to store wheat berries .. Lids do not close Air Tight .. I even sat on the covers to help them close but NO they do not close air tight.. I can open them with 1 hand without forcing to open them.... I do NOT recommend
