Excellent Quality Dumbbells Without the Brand-Name Price Tag
I’ve been very impressed with these Amazon Basics Rubber Hex Dumbbells. The build quality is excellent, with durable rubber-coated heads and a solid, comfortable grip. They feel just as sturdy and well-made as much more expensive name-brand dumbbells I’ve used at commercial gyms. The hex design keeps them from rolling around, and the rubber coating helps protect both the weights and my floors. The weight accuracy seems spot-on, and they’ve held up well through regular workouts. If you’re looking for quality dumbbells without paying a premium for a brand name, these are a fantastic value. I would definitely buy them again. Honestly, if the logo were covered up, I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between these and dumbbells costing significantly more.

Great for the price
These Amazon Basics Rubber Hex Dumbbells are exactly what I needed for home workouts. The 45 lb pair feels solid, well-balanced, and durable with a comfortable grip that doesn’t slip even during tougher sets. The rubber coating is a nice touch—it helps protect the floor and keeps noise down when setting them down between exercises. They’re simple, no-frills dumbbells, but that’s really all you need. Perfect for presses, rows, curls, and everything in between. Great value for the price and a reliable addition to any home gym setup.

Great weights! Use baking soda for the smell.
Not much to be said. They're weights. They weigh as much as advertised, the condition is great, and the grip is comfortable. Now they make the room smell like a tire shop when they come out of the box. I've bought these weights multiple times in varying sizes and the best solution I've found to the smell is baking soda. This last time I applied it as a paste. That worked fairly well, but the best was when I submerged some in water with a ton of baking soda. They still emit a bit of a smell afterwards, but it doesn't fill the room after the baking soda treatment. Only smells when you're right next to them. Fades after a few days.

THE FACTS YOU NEED TO KNOW. Great Dumbbells for A Great Price.
I have purchased multiple pairs of these dumbbells and intend to purchase more soon. Regarding the common complaints, let's address them here: THE WEIGHT: An online search shows that it is extremely common for hex dumbbells to have slight weight variations; most manufacturers specify an approximate weight tolerance of +/- 3%. For Example: this means a 50lb dumbbell could actually weigh anywhere from 48.5 lbs. to 51.5 lbs. and still be considered "well within spec" for mass-produced fitness equipment. From many of these reviews, Amazon Hex Dumbbell's are only around a 1-2% tolerance, that's pretty damn good. THE SMELL: These things are rubber and yes, they are going to have a rubber smell, all rubber hex dumbbell's do when new and are coated with an oil during the manufacturing process. Put some dawn dish soap in a bucket with water, wash them, dry them and the smell will go away quickly. This will also remove any of the oil from the manufacturing process. SCUFFS: I can understand the complaints regarding deep gouges, chips, cracks and any significant damage during shipping. I am just surprised at the reviews mentioning slight scuffs from shipping. Come on, you are going to scuff these things up using them over time anyways, get over it. Put them to work and use them to get the results you bought them for. You didn't buy them to let them sit unused and look pretty, they are weights. Overall, I am extremely happy with these dumbbells, and for the price you can't beat them. They are great quality and easily compete with dumbbells that are double the price. For what they are the price is pretty unbeatable. Hopefully this review helps you out and covers any concerns you may have.

Nice dumbbell, strong plastic smell
Hard to beat the price. However, you're going to want to leave it in the garage or on the the patio for about a week so the odor dissipates. Strong plastic smell....

Great value, arrived perfectly clean and virtually zero offensive odor
I have purchased 15, 20, 25 & 30 lb pairs so far. Each has arrived in perfectly clean condition with virtually zero smell. They went straight from the box to the rack, no need whatsoever to clean them first. Regarding smell, they're made in China, put into a plastic bag then sealed in a cardboard box and then shipped via container ship (that slow boat from China, from the old saying) before sitting in a few warehouses before making it to your doorstep. Of course there is going to be some degree odor from the rubber, but it's amazingly minimal with these dumbbells. There is no hint of oxidization (rust) on the nicely knurled and plated handles, and I have found no imperfections in the rubber moulding. Regarding weight accuracy, all weigh -.5 lbs on my non-calibrated digital bathroom scale, which leads me to think my bathroom scale reads -.5 normally. All in all, I'm extremely happy with my choice to go with these Amazon Basics dumbbells and will definitely buy again.

Great dumbbells with one tiny issue
These are good quality and have no off-gassing smell. I bought a pair of them at the same time I bought a pair of CAP dumbbells. The rubber on these is a little softer than the CAP, but the CAP dumbbells have a terrible off-gassing smell. The little thing that bugs me about these is that they have "lbs" after the number on the dumbbell. So these say "15lbs" 4 times on each dumbbell. I also have some Amazon 40s, and they do the same thing. I would much rather they simply put the number and not put "lbs" on them at all. It's a waste of space and visually distracting. I don't need to be reminded every time I pick these up that they aren't kilograms. I bought my dumbbells and have none in kg. I've worked out in many gyms and never seen dumbbells in kg. Even if these were in the gym, it wouldn't be hard to figure out they aren't 40kg. If the CAP dumbbells weren't so stinky, I probably would have given these 4.5 stars.

~1.5yr Review | Full set, still looks and works as if new
SUMMARY - Took a year but built the whole set (10 - 50) - Nothing beats the versatility of a good set of dumbbells - Stinky and oily first few days (no big deal for me) - Look like new 1.5years later with nearly daily use - Follow gym etiquette and treat them right, they will last forever - Did not confirm their weight FULL REVIEW BACK STORY As was the case everywhere when COVID hit, my MMA gym shut down. Previous to that closure, I had barbells and plates that I'd accumulated through the past couple of decades. But when the everything closed, I quickly found myself missing the variation and breadth of exercises that you get at the gym vs the barbell setup I had at home. Almost immediately, I ordered a cable machine but still felt like I was missing a bunch of exercises. 4 months later, in July of 2020 I found these and ordered what I could -- at that time only 10 & 20 pounders were available. That order was just shy of $95. Expensive but seemed like a somewhat fair trade given that I had cancelled my gym memberships, not knowing what was going to happen or for how long places would remain closed. They trickled in as they could over the next month. I would check the site daily to see if any more had become available for sale. Most of the time they would come with a warning, stating that there were none in stock but would be shortly and charges would appear on CC until they were shipped. I'd pick up a pair as I saw them available. April of 2021 (almost a year after I purchased my first pair), I bought the elusive 50 and 35 pound pairs. The last two I needed to complete the 10 - 50 pound set (incremental by 5lbs). THE DUMBBELLS HIIT, being able to switch weights instantly to finish a set out to complete failure, flies and reverse flies, single arm lifts for core strength, etc. Nothing beats the versatility of a good dumbbell set. Yes, some were oily and had a rubbery smell when they first arrived. I would cut the box top, remove from the plastic bag and let air outside for a couple of days. I'd then wipe down with a cloth and place on dumbbell rack. These two things were never really an issue for me. After a year and a half of almost daily use, they look and feel as they did when I first got them. Please note, that I follow gym etiquette. I don't let them slam against the floor (drop), I don't bang them against each other, I re-rack when done, etc. The highest they ever dropped is from bench after doing chest press (will drop lower my arms by my side and l and these roll off -- as anyone would at any gym). They do fall on mats, or carpet. They've never dropped on concrete, brick, rock, or similar. Take care of them, and THEY WILL LAST you forever. WEIGHT There are a few reviews that tested the weight to verify how close they were to their stated weights. I haven't checked mine. Honestly, up until I started to write this review I hadn't even thought about it. I'm no professional body builder. I need resistance and these seem to be doing a very good job at it. Maybe if I get a calibrated scale in the future I'll weigh 'em and update this review (but doubtful).

Excellent Dumbbell for Home Workouts!
I started incorporating weights into my home workout routine and decided to try the Amazon Basics Rubber Encased Hex Dumbbell. I couldn’t be happier with my choice! This 20-pound dumbbell is perfectly weighted for various exercises, allowing me to build strength effectively. The rubber casing is a fantastic feature—it prevents damage to my floors and reduces noise when I set it down. The hexagonal shape is also a great design choice; it keeps the dumbbell from rolling away when I’m not using it, which is super convenient. The grip is comfortable, and I appreciate that it feels sturdy and well-made. I’ve used it for a range of exercises, from curls to lunges, and it holds up wonderfully. Plus, the compact size makes it easy to store in my home gym without taking up much space. Overall, this dumbbell offers great quality at an affordable price. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to enhance their strength

Bargain dumbbell - good workmanship
Bargain dumbbell, great value for money but as several have mentioned they have a strong lingering rubber smell. After a few days the smell seems to dissipate.
