StarTech.com USB 3.0 Internal Multi-Card Reader with UHS-II Support - SecureDigital/Micro SD/Memory Stick/Compact Flash Memory Card Reader (35FCREADBU3), black

I bought this to replace a USB2 version which had ceased working. Apart from some fiddly screws it was easy to fit and is faster at photo transfers than the one I had before.

Does what it says. Startech say it "Supports any operating system" and indeed it works as it's supposed to on a PC dual booting both Windows 10 Pro 32bit and Ubuntu 16.04 LTS 64bit. I have it connected to the header port of a Sonnet Technologies FW8USB3 A USB 3.0 PCI Express Card Fire Wire 800) fitted to the PC. I chose this after looking at the CSL offering but that product had USB2 speeds for the card reader. By contrast, this Startech product is entirely USB3 which means that the full speed of some faster flash cards can be fully taken advantage of.

If you want to use this for reading Compact Flash cards stay away. . . . the pins are set far too shallow and after 6 months of use (probably less than once a week) and despite being very careful in loading the card has resulted in bent pins. Also for some reason the card had to be loaded upside down, this is a poorly designed card reader. Would really expect more when paying for a premium product. . . do not buy this product.

Installs easily into a 3.5 inch bay and connects to a usb3 header. However watch out! Because I found out to my detriment that the plastic/rubberised connector hadn't had all of the pin holes punched out correctly and only realised after I'd attempted to plug in the connector into my usb3 header breaking 3 pins on the header in the process. On a plus side they do punch out easily with a "pop" using a small pointed tool. So check the connector before plugging in. Not worth sending back as I need the device for a job assuming it works once iv plugged it into the usb3 header card iv just had to purchase.

Well I receive this card reader and was initially very happy with it! I plunged in a cf card and download some photographs and it worked fine no real problems. The only thing that I noticed was that the card didn't push in to the card reader very much. The key way for orientation of the card was also very shallow. I wen to use the card reader for the second time but I couldn't get it to work. I looked into the CF slot and noticed that some of the pins were longer than others and looked to be misaligned also. I turn off the system and tried to align the pins but i was unable to do so. I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone after my findings. I will contact Amazon now for a refund. Swapped this for a card reader which had a blue power on light like a searchlight. I also wanted a USB 3 front socket. The light on this model is only on when is working & its discreet. It works 100%, with no issues. Quite pricey cf non-USB models. Check you have a spare USB 3 header before buying. Update: after two years the usb socket became loose - probably as a result of someone brushing past it when the cable was inserted. On checking the internals, the socket appears to be only secured by the soldering at its rear. USB sockets are prone to this kind of damage but for a premium priced product this is poor. The socket fixing should have been physically reinforced.

Got this as Good As New, indeed it was. original packaging and if it had not said as much I would have took it as been completely new. perfect.

Lo que más me agradó es que la velocidad de transferencia de datos es muy estable, mis tarjetas SD y USB van a 45MBps sin caídas, pero porque ese es el limite de dichas memorias, supongo que si le pongo algo más rápido lo lee y escribe a su máxima velocidad sin problemas

Très bien : - boitier caréné ce qui protège les composants (de la poussière ou d'autre chose). - longueur de câble suffisante : 40 cm environ en sortie de boitier, ... et non les 10 cm spécifiés dans un descriptif lu par ailleurs et qui avait été précédemment confirmé par la Stupidité Artificielle (ce qui m'a fait inutilement acheter une rallonge USB). Pas bien : 4 lettres de lecteurs mobilisées (par le système dés la reconnaissance du périphérique), ce qui pourrait être bien pour lire plusieurs cartes + l'USB en même temps, mais ne se fait généralement pas avec ce genre de lecteur, d'autant que les emplacements se gêneraient les uns les autres. Exemple : l'emplacement du lecteur microSD (pour ma part le plus utilisé/utile) juste au-dessus et trop proche du connecteur USB, n'est pas facile d'accès si un câble USB est branché (le concepteur n'a pas tenu compte des doigts et de la petitesse de la carte). Verdict : bien dans l'ensemble.

Top quality. Extensieve but it works much better then my ppriveousNitrox cardreader of €10,- . You better spend more money.
