Fix: The Ministry Movie

I pick up this item as I started listen to Ministry in 1995 and this dvd covers the touring period of this album - and the artistic partnership between Paul Barker and Al Jourgensen was so strong you could feel it even inside the album's songwriting. Ministry were a mess - high and low moods, paranoia, drug taking, amulets and beliefs, grudge, laughing, drinking, travelling, speaking, disappointing and exalting the fans - all this from an objective point of view and interrupted here and there by interviews of people who knew the band during that period or were anyway influenced by them... David Yow of Jesus Lizard obtain the award for best naked man on stage ever: fighting Al's paranoia to being shot by someone, he goes up on stage naked, smoking a cigarette and giving the middle finger to the audience with such a nonchalance that is awesome. Al shows to be a smart and humorous guy, as well as Paul... definitely, Ministry to me were dead after their break-up, as Barker is a class songwriter (and the tracks contained in the CD shows how good he still is and how his trademark signed the Ministry we all loved)... so it is a good dvd where memories came back, and if you were a fan of the band they were (and not of the imitation they become today, alas), it's a must-see.

Decent movie, but not a debauched as the trailer let's on.

This is a scary,funny and sad movie about one of my fav bands.It is great to see how life on a Ministry tour is.It is a bit sad about all the drugs and booze...sometimes you think the Vodka is more important than the show itself.But no matter how drunk and high they are they still make a bloody good job.And you get to see Al put his dingaling ling long in a chicken!!!!.I am sure every fan would like this movie as much as i do.

Love Al...This is the best documentary of Ministry. Could not believe all of the bands which were depicted in this video. I honestly can say Al Jourgensen is the craziest the industry has, and he truly is a artist. He enjoys the audience. Also, I like the interviews with Maynard from tool. He seems very calm and down to earth, way different from what I've seen on stage. If you like Ministry, Tool, or NIN, you'll love this movie...

FIX: The Ministry Movie is the movie of the year. Finally we get to see the real Al and all that made him tick. The pioneer of industrial punk rock that changed America punk rock for the better! Long Live MINISTRY! God Save Al Jourgensen and Paul Barker!

If your an old school Ministry fan and are expecting a cool doc & behind the scenes footage from the Mind tour then don't buy this! Wait until there's 500 used copies on Amazon and buy it for $1.00 or less! This is a documentary about the 1996 Sphinctour, the lamest era in Ministry's history. The footage and interviews are just plain & boring. With all the crazy hype that's been circulating over the past two years about this long awaited release, it's a HUGE let down. The only good thing about this DVD is the bonus audio disc, Paul Barkers "Fix This!!!" CD. Good work Paul! :)

La confezione sigillata e nuova, contiene 1 dvd e 1 cd. Durante la riproduzione del film documentario, non ci sono state imperfezioni, audio e immagini perfetti. Come dicevo nel titolo della recensione , è un pugno nello stomaco, nel senso che, a parte qualche fotogramma volutamente omesso, viene mostrata tutta la nuda e cruda realtà della vita dello zio Al. Concerti, tour bus, hotels e cosi via. Il cd, di ottima fattura mi piaciuto molto e lo ho già ascoltato piu' volte. Consigliato ai fan della band e non.

Shows us Ministry in the mid90's on Filth Pig album tour. Mostly great example of why not to get involved with serious hard drugs, as it interviews members of bands including Tool, Melvins, Jesus Lizard, who talk about Minsitry/Al, what they saw at that time, how they saw the effect on the band. Some difficult viewing, but also some funny moments as well.

As a longtime fan of Ministry (1986-Present Day) I fail to see the point of this rather useless documentary. This film covers Ministry's 1996 Sphinctour in all its ugliness and captures the band at the start of their decline. Any fan will remember 1992 as Ministry's highpoint in terms of commercial and international success so why not remind people of those good times? Instead, 16 years later, we are reminded of an album and tour many wanted to forget. I know because I was there. Whenever Ministry played a song from the then-current Filth Pig album the audience either sat down, pitifully clapped or, even worse, booed. They took too long to release the follow-up to Psalm 69 and failed to deliver the intensity that many were expecting. This happened again 3 years later when they released Dark Side of the Spoon , which was practically unlistenable, and Ministry were reduced to becoming an opening act and low on the bill at festivals. Then, after 4 more years, they released Animositisomina , which was closer to the Ministry sound that people wanted but 11 years too late. It was after this tour that Paul Barker (co-conspirator to Al Jourgensen since 1987) decided to leave Ministry without even giving fans a definite reason why. Here is where many problems lie, and much of this relates to this DVD/CD package. Al Jourgensen, the sole creator of Ministry, had no intentions of retiring his band after Barker left and why should he? Many complained about the "new" Ministry but really it was closer to the Ministry sound of yore than it had been in years. So what if a writing partnership dissolved? Suddenly, Jourgensen was revitalized, angry again producing much more product in the next 4 years than Ministry had in the last 12. Throughout this period, 2004-2008, Barker released a couple failed experiments ( Pink Anvil : an improv noise experiment done in 1 take and, even worse, USSA: a boring ripoff of Mike Patton's Tomahawk ). It must have seemed pretty obvious to Barker that life in the music scene after Ministry wasn't as fruitful as it used to be, even at Ministry's low point. So fast forward to 2010 and all of a sudden the elusive quiet man now has so much to say. He managed to go 6 years without a peep of Jourgensen or Ministry and now you can read many spiteful hate-filled comments from him and his loud-mouthed wife on what was once a great Ministry fansite now turned into a den of loathing filled with Jourgensen mudslingers and Barker brown nosers. Even more despicable is how he now tries to use the Ministry name, literally, to sell his own product. You can find some of his downloads on itunes where he callously uses the post-Barker Ministry logo. These songs are not Ministry. If you quit a band you either bury the hatchet and rejoin or do your own thing. You don't steal a name that existed years before and continued years after you were a member. This is shameful. I used to have a lot of respect for Barker but his antics of late are childish and conceited. Fast forward again to Fix: The Ministry Movie. After years of controversy this film is now available, against Al Jourgensen's wishes, and sports a new Paul Barker Fix This!!! CD. Upon careful inspection you will find the CD-text reads that this is a Ministry CD even though Jourgensen has nothing to do with it and he owns full copyright to the name. What are you playing at, Paul? And why retaliate now when Al has played it civily since you left? Did it take 6-8 years to think of some snappy comebacks to past arguments or was it the so-called Revolting Cocks reunion at the Wax Trax Retrospectacle that drudged up some stories when you got to perform again with other bitter ex-bandmates. BTW, Revolting Cocks is another band Jourgensen had started that years later Barker would join. But onto the subject once again of this DVD. As I said earlier it is rather useless. The majority of the live footage is already available on the Sphinctour DVD and the latest Ministry footage is interviews with Jourgensen and Barker from 2002. It would have been a much more interesting film had it contained more information from before 1996 and continued up to present day with current interviews and reflections from both Al and Paul. Instead we must sit through stories from the likes of members of Tool and Amen who have nothing to do with the history of Ministry and after listening to them they don't sound like they ever even met anyone in the band. We hear stories from Lemmy which, again, are pointless because he only seems to mention that he thought they were funny. The only guests on this documentary that seem to hold any relevance to the 1996 tour are King Buzzo, whose girlfriend ran away with the band for 2 weeks, and David Yow whose Jesus Lizard was an opener for this tour. Ogre, Reznor and Biafra give good insight but from different eras of Ministry's career. As to the point of this film, who knows? I thought it might have been a film about excessive drug use but that is only one part of it and it isn't presented as deadly serious as you might expect. If you were to remove the useless interviews with people not related to the band and cut out the already released live performances, this could have been a decent bonus disc to the Sphinctour DVD. Oh yeah, and get rid of the CD, too. Give it away free with Flowering Blight, Paul, and FIX that CD-text. Still a fan, though, and always will be.

Seems to be a pretty true and open insight into the band not always that glamourous though. Well worth the money for a true fan. Enjoy
